I guess I'm a real "Pollyanna", but I read "artificial lesbian" and figured
that the comment was just putting down the adopting of a fake lesbian image,
not genuine lesbians...

Like Mandy, I too, was offended by the posting.

Equating lesbians with a masculine aesthetic (therefore "ugly" or
anti-feminine) is ridiculous! Get a clue! Maybe you should study the
dynamics of butch/femme within the culture of lesbianism to enlighten
yourself and not appear so naive and limited in thought. Some think of Gender
as performance art. The dichotomy between masculinity/femininity derived
from a very narrow, heterosexist paradigm.

I'm sorry, but I must say something about this, because I think many of you
are angry at Julja without reason. I read the message of Julja and I didn't
see any bad intentions behind it (Julja, tell me if I'm wrong), and I'm
really surprised for this susceptibility, and so much trouble about a
simple message which didn't say IMHO anything offensive against lesbians. If
you read it again carefully, what Julja criticizes is the FAKE character of
the lesbian photograph, I don't see how his affect lesbians.
I pray that this will not become another 3 week discussion about
homosexuality, homofoby, etc. Just live and let live.

Gabi.

Hello people!

I hope you are all doing well.

I'm Nico (or Nikko) from Buenos Aires. I love Sinead and her music and
that's why I subscribed the list. I've been reading the mails for a while
and now it's that I decided myself to write some lines to you all.
It's great the information you have. I enjoy it a lot. I only wish I could
buy all the maxis and singles you talk about (there's no single and maxis
edition in Argentina) but I only buy the ones I find by chance in import CDs
stores (which are very expensive!) or on Ebay.
That's it by now.
Have you all a very nice day.

Nikko

Hi -

Knowing her in person, I'm 100% sure that Julja didn't
mean this as an insult to lesbians, but I guess she was
just trying to point out how terribly artificial and
phoney the picture looks.

To me, putting this picture on the cover of a magnificent
song like Jealous is sheer stupidity, and I still haven't
got around buying a copy, believe it or not.

Cheers,

Deniz

PS. Mandy - do you also agree that Polly's new album is
incredibly brilliant?!?! What a lucky couple of months it
has been!

When I read Julja's post, I thought it was just her opinion of the cover
photo of Sinead's single. She didn't like the picture, so what? I think it's
a nice picture but everyone won't think so. It's true that as beautiful as
Sinead is that they could have come up with a better picture because it
doesn't take too much to snap a good one of her. I think Julja's comments
were directed towards Sinead only. Well, that's my opinion.

Loving Sinead,
CoolPolly

am I the only one who senses this terrible susceptibility of women on this
list? Homosexual men are not as agressive as women about these issues, but
women tend to feel offended any time the word 'lesbian' appears on a message
and react with an anger I do not always understand. I haven't really seen
that homofobic clima on the list (call me stupid), except once.
Can we girls calm down?
I say this with the best of intentions, please understand, no offense
intended. I'm just thinking this list could be a better place if we don't
feel harmed by others who mean no harm to us, and react violently without
reason.
Love, Gabi.

I think there needs to be a 3 year discussion about these issues. They are
not going away until all people accept all people no matter who they are. I
like educating people who are narrow minded. And, like Melissa says "every
way of seeing is a way of not seeing" BTW, Julja is a lesbian.

Hey everybody....
hm....I can't believe what's going on now here...
I was just adressing myself to Sinead and her "strange" posture on
the Jelaous cover. I wasn't intending to attack anyone...
would be funny though as I myself am one of the most peaceloving,
peacepreaching and tolerant young women around.... ;-)
Mandy...I apologize if I hurt your strong feelings towards sexuality
or whatever...I really didn't mean to.
I am a great admirer of Sinead's spirit and powerful mind.
I feel great respect for all the work she has done.
All the more I was disappointed by the artificial poppy style she
begins to take over now. However, that's her decision and I respect
that. I know that she knows that the "inner peace and balance" is
all that matters.
Like Sinead I don't believe in different sexualities.
I love men but I have been in bed with a women aswell and I have to
say...it was fantastic!
So...what the hell are you talking about????
For me...the Jelaous cover sucks...that's all. I would rather prefer
her cute smile than her muscles and a posture
that...sorry...doesn't seem natural and "hers" at all.
The contrast between the CD cover and this one was just so
striking that I couldn't keep my mouth shut.
Thanks and Peace to all ...Julja

Gabi,
I hope you do not hope to calm anyone down by what you wrote. This is what
makes a lot of women really angry is being told to stuff it. There is plenty
of history about women and how we have been told to just calm down. For one
example, women are now allowed to vote. I'm certainly grateful that the women
who have been fighting for our rights have not calmed down. There is a
process that a woman goes thru to become the dyke that she is. Men do not go
thru this process simply because they are men and there is not that added
discrimination. It is a truly sad state that women are in. As hetrosexuals,
women are treated very poorly, and a lot of women allow themselves to be
treated as second class citizens. There are mounds and mounds of eveidence
that says so. As lesbains we see and feel the discrimination more clearly.
That is what the anger is about. Do you realize that a whole entire gender is
dicriminated against. It does not matter if your gay, white, fat, skinny,
tall, short, japanese, hispanic, chinese, black..........we are not men and
we are treated with less respect than men because this is a male dominated
society. Imagine a whole entire gender being treated with abuse,
inconsideration, getting paid less, having to wait in line longer because the
guy who just came inot the store knows that Im jsut a woman and he can butt
in front of me. But, what he doesnt know is Im a dyke and I could give a shit
weather or not he thinks Im pretty or if he thinks my ass is too big. I dont
give a fuck what he thinks......and I like it like that. See what happens
when you tell a girl to calm down.

I wasn't telling girls to calm down about those things, but about OTHER
things, if you read my message again.
PLEASE, I hope we NEVER calm down about fighing for things like those you've
stated, until we succeed.
Peace!
Gabi.

am I the only one who senses this terrible susceptibility of women on =
this
list? Homosexual men are not as agressive as women about these issues, =
but
women tend to feel offended any time the word 'lesbian' appears on a =
message
and react with an anger I do not always understand. I haven't really =
seen
that homofobic clima on the list (call me stupid), except once.
  Can we girls calm down?
I say this with the best of intentions, please understand, no offense
intended. I'm just thinking this list could be a better place if we =
don't
feel harmed by others who mean no harm to us, and react violently =
without
  reason.
  Love, Gabi.

  Hey everybody....
hm....I can't believe what's going on now here...
I was just adressing myself to Sinead and her "strange" posture on=20
the Jelaous cover. I wasn't intending to attack anyone...
would be funny though as I myself am one of the most peaceloving,=20
peacepreaching and tolerant young women around.... ;-)
Mandy...I apologize if I hurt your strong feelings towards sexuality=20
or whatever...I really didn't mean to.
I am a great admirer of Sinead's spirit and powerful mind.
I feel great respect for all the work she has done.
All the more I was disappointed by the artificial poppy style she=20
begins to take over now. However, that's her decision and I respect=20
that. I know that she knows that the "inner peace and balance" is=20
  all that matters.
Like Sinead I don't believe in different sexualities.
I love men but I have been in bed with a women aswell and I have to=20
  say...it was fantastic!
So...what the hell are you talking about????=20
For me...the Jelaous cover sucks...that's all. I would rather prefer=20
her cute smile than her muscles and a posture=20
that...sorry...doesn't seem natural and "hers" at all.
The contrast between the CD cover and this one was just so=20
striking that I couldn't keep my mouth shut.=20
Thanks and Peace to all ...Julja

Hello (Mandy),

Sorry Mandy but to be honest; my first thoughts when I saw the cover of the
Jealous CD-single were (also); "Wow, this picture really underlines Sinead's
coming out".
And (knowing you) I'm almost sure you must have noticed it too.

IMHO this doesn't have anything to do with being homophobic at all.

Good made photographs tell more then just the taken picture, they give an
admosphere and tell a story which can't be seen. And in this case I don't
think it's a coincidence. So the photo is taken very well and tells
something Sinead wants us (the buyers) to know. Even someone who doesn't
know Sinead or didn't read all the gossip about her, will know Sinead is a
lesbian/bi-sexual after having seen the cover.
Bad taken photo ?? I don't think so, I think it's exact what Sinead wanted
it to be / tell.

Still....to me the the cover looks terrible, like a cover of a bootleg of
the late 80s, which had terrible art-covers. (Recent bootlegs of big
artists, and/or bootleg labels, have better covers then the official
releases)

The contrast between the CD cover and this one was just so
striking that I couldn't keep my mouth shut.

Hey,
I thought it striking too in the way that I like the Jealous cover way
better than the F&C cover which I think is a bit artificial and musky with
this pastel-crayon/tinty!;-)
Okay the first time I saw the Jealous sleeve I was kind of shocked as
well...the quality being so poor/grainy.But I love it now...I love the fact
that it looks so cheap...call me crazy;-) same as this horrible green
combined with the white letters of the cd itself.I love it!haha
Also I don't think the posture is unSinead/unnatural at all,but I must say
the (2track) cardboard cover is way nicer composition wise.
Yes this is only my humble opinion ;-)

i have not seen the cover of "jealous" yet but this discussion of the image
is making me think about the cover of "the lion and the cobra" which was
different for US and european releases. whatever the reasoning, the US got
the sweet quiet photo.

maybe her label will start trying out "butch" & "femme" covers for those
markets which they anticipate will demand a specific visual of sinead. i bet
SF gets BUTCH.

also, i have a request: will those who have the email control please make
sure your postings to JITR do NOT include the entire text of the message to
which you are responding?!? it was almost impossible to find/read new
messages in the endless reams of repeated postings. those things sent in MIME
format are a huge repetitious garbled waste of time/space. this is why the
digest came out twice in a day...it's full of the same three postings 25 or
more times.

thanks, all.

one love--
claudia

We discussed this picture a while ago, but I don't have the single yet, so I
just looked at the "Jealous" cover picture on Amazon.com.
I guess I think Sinead is beautiful in *every* picture... I even like the
armpit hair and the head-scratching! And muscles are fine, to me.

Hi -

Frustrating mail, in the first instance, I warn ya! ;-)

The supposed Jealous remix by Sheldon Steiger will not
see daylight, or so the the man says. The response I got
from Sheldon concerning the remix is:

 >>

Hi Deniz,

The song that I mixed was with Michael Beinhorn for a
film soundtrack, and unfortunately, this version will
never be released. :-(

Thanks for askin'

best,
Sheldon Steiger

 >>

The second thing is, I have seen the Jealous CD itself on
eBay and I nearly puked. How come they can come up with
such crappy designs when people are doing fantastic, kick-
ass cover arts and stuff?!?!?! The picture again looked
like a big nightmare - the WORST picture (of Sinéad or
anybody else) I have seen in a long while. Makes me cringe.

Red with anger,

Deniz ;-))

I know you didn't. I didn't take what you said as a personal attack on me.
I think the cover photo looks cheap and unfinished and was surprised when I
saw it in the flesh....however I think your use of the word lesbian was
misplaced and open to question that's why I questioned it.

Sorry if I've opened up this infamous can of worms yet again !!

Hi -

Me again! ;-)

WOW, I've just listened to When You Love over and over again
and I must say that it's AWESOME! I was looking forward to this
one for a long time now. Well worth the wait!

It's a very simple love song but it just grabs you from the first
line to the last, and the production is also superb, though a bit
Corrs-like at some points.

The second applaud goes to the official site. Quite strange that
there hasn't been much discussion about it because it's really
fantastic, really great design and impact! For some reason, it
still can't b
