No Man's Woman

                            --Sinead O'Connor

I don't wanna be no man's woman
it don't make me happy this man-trollin
thing that you got for me so I've become
no man's woman

I don't wanna be no man's woman
I've other work I want to get done
I haven't traveled this far to become
no man's woman
no man's woman

Cos I'm tired of it
and I'm so scared of it
that I'll never trust again
cos a man can fake you
take your soul and make you
miserable in so much pain

My friends think I'm alone but I got secrets
I don't tell everything about the love I get
I got a lovin man but he's a spirit
he never does me harm never treats me bad
he never takes away all the love he has
and I'm forgiven over a million times

I'm never tired or it
and I'm not scared of it
cos it doesn't cause me pain
cos a man can fake you
take your soul and make you
never be yourself again

I never wanna be no man's woman
I only wanna be my own woman
I haven't traveled this far to become
no man's woman
no man's woman
no man's woman

Fleadh Postponed; Loses Sponsorship

March 30, 2000, 12:00 pm PT

Fleadh, the music festival showcasing some of the biggest names in Irish and
American contemporary music, has postponed its U.S. run until September
while it searches for sponsorship. Guinness Beer had been the festival's
sponsor for the past three years, but has pulled out.

The tour was tentatively scheduled for June in New York, San Francisco,
Boston, and Chicago, with Toronto and Denver to be added. Tour organizers
were also thinking of expanding into the Washington, D.C., Houston, and
Miami markets.

Fleadh started in the U.S. in 1997 as a two-day event in New York. In 1998,
Chicago and San Francisco were added. Last year, the festival made return
visits to New York (only one day), Chicago, and San Franciso, while adding
Boston. Among the peforming artists were Van Morrison, The Chieftains,
Sinead O'Connor, Black 47, Richard Thompson, Hootie and the Blowish, and
Barenaked Ladies.

I truly don't agree with you.
I find her "Raglan road" better than the album version and the sequence from
All babies to In this heart passionately and wonderfully sung.
Even "mandinka" is funny even though it seems as it doesn't belong to her
anymore.

ciao

Hello,

Just looked at eBay, didn't see much special besides the bootleg Live USA
(most terrible live-boot IMHO).
But I also saw the hard to find 7" for Heroine (B-side; Heroine MixII)

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=295940018

(not mine, but might be interesting for collectors)

Found a solution to the Napster problem (too much servers).
- Download Napigator on www.thirty4.com
- Install it.

Now you can select seperate servers to log in. Never knew that there were
that much Napster servers (58 at the moment)

Today I am in the server named; clubhouse.napster.com

Hi there,

Just got a very exciting email from a friend of mine who lives in London.
He's also a Sinéad fan and he tells about the new Iarla O Lionaird (of Afro
Celt Sound System) release, which includes Sinéad as a guest artist. Roisin
Dubh and Singing Bird are the two songs Sinéad sings in, and the latter is a
live performance taken from 18 October 1998 Shepherds Bush Empire concert.

Love and light,

Deniz

In fact this is NOT the same song (I just read two lines quickly and there
was "My apple tree..."'..so I thought it was the same song , sorry!!

The lyrics are:

"I'm stretched on your grave
This is where you will find me
If I could touch your fingertips
I would never let you go

My apple tree, my darling
It's time for me to lie with you
I smell of the cold earth
Have become
The colour of the wind
The colour of the sound
when your people
Beliecve me to be in my bed sleeping
I will be a spirit being
In the meadows before you"

to be forgiven I put the mp3 of Singing bird on

    My apple tree, my darling
It's time for me to lie with you

HEADLINE: GOOD SAMARITAN SINEAD'S HELPING HAND TO HOMELESS;
SINGER GIVES STRANGER A NIGHT OUT AT BURLINGTON

BYLINE: Jim Gallagher

BODY:

BIG-HEARTED pop star Sinead O'Connor saved a homeless man after he collapsed
in the gutter - and then gave him a night
out he will never forget.

The millionaire singer took the down-and-out to Dublin's exclusive Burlington
Hotel where he partied the night away with
celebrities.

The astonishing story began when the 33-year-old star was on her way
to a fund -raising event for the homeless at the trendy
Club Annabel at the posh hotel.

Suddenly she saw a homeless man called Tom, who is in his 40s, lying
in the street with blood coming from his head.

"He had obviously fallen over and hurt himself but people were just stepping
over him and staring," said the pop star.

She stopped her car and rushed over to help him, getting him back on
his feet.

When she realised he did not need hospital treatment she put him in her
car and brought him to the Burlington.

"I called out a doctor friend of mine who came out to treat him and who
gave him the okay," said Sinead.

"He was happy to help and did not even charge me."

The singer, who has long been an advocate for the homeless, helped to
clean Tom up and got him a meal.

Well-to-do guests at the hotel, where the cheapest room is pounds 155
a night, were amazed to see the star with the tattered
homeless man who had been drinking.

Sinead then brought Tom down to the charity gala which was being hosted
by TV funnyman Brendan O'Carroll.

He sat down and relaxed with Sinead's boyfriend Dermot Hayes as the star
got up to sing to the 250 crowd.

He applauded loudly as she sang Amazing Grace and House of the Rising
Sun.

She then did several numbers with renowned harmonica player and actor
Don Baker, who starred in the hit film In the Name of
the Father.

Sinead told the Irish Sunday People: "Tom is fine now but he was bleeding
when we found him.

"People were just walking past him. He had fallen and cut his head so
we made sure he was okay.

"People are sometimes afraid to go up to men on the streets because these
people can appear threatening.

"But I wasn't scared about approaching him...I would have been more scared
about passing him by.

"He knew who I was. I think he was surprised and not surprised at the
same time.

"We took him with us to get him some food and I called out a doctor friend
of mine."

Tom had been staying in a shelter run by the Simon Community but had
been thrown out that day after he started drinking.

"I managed to track down his family but they just did not want to know,"
said Sinead.

"People on the streets have often caused all kinds of problems for their
families in the past and they don't want any more. They
don't know how to cope."

Homeless campaigner Sister Stanislaus was also at the charity gala and
managed to get Tom a bed for the night in a Crosscare
hostel behind Whitefriars Church.

"That's a hostel that takes everyone," said Sinead.

After he enjoyed the party, Sinead drove Tom to the hostel where he thanked
her for her kindness.

And she promised to stay in touch with him.

Organisers of the charity event were astonished when Sinead walked in
with Tom.

Brendan O'Carroll said: "Only Sinead would do something like that."

Tom later told friends: "It was one of the best nights of my life. Sinead
is a brilliant girl."

GRAPHIC: CHARITY GALA: Brendan O'Carroll found Sinead had added to his
event's guest list; UNAFRAID: Sinead ran to
homeless Tom's assistance

HEADLINE: VOICE OF THE IRISH PEOPLE: SAMARITAN SINEAD

BODY:

SINEAD O'Connor is as good as her word.

She said she wanted to help the less fortunate, and we have now found
the proof.

A lot of people were stunned when she did an amazing about turn and became
Mother Bernadette.

But she said she had a calling, and who can doubt now that she meant
it.

Sinead could still be coining it in, living it up and partying with the
stars.

But the former pop star turned priest instead chose to do all she could
for a homeless man.

She made no song and dance about it.

Well done Sinead. Nothing compares to compassion.

of the pOpE's nonspecific APOLOGIES for (some of) the evil of catholicism
over the years. strange to hear no comment.

and i wonder if she'd ever consider covering that PRINCE song,"the PoPe"
since everyone is feeling so forgiving. i think she'd do an amazing job on
that!

everyone keeps forgetting to mention if she is wearing the PRIEST collar in
these good samaritan spottings! i have a personal bet with myself as to when
i think she's going to get over the priestess thing. i don't think her album
is going to come out under the name "mother bernadette" either.

ok, delete!

Hi there,

Listening to Singing Bird now thanks to Bruno, who was kind enough to send
the MP3 to me so that Curly and I can put it on UM.

For those who are are in need of gratuitous details: it's very much like He
Moved Through The Fair of Gospel Oak in appearance - you wouldn't say it's a
live recording unless you read the sleeve.

4:49 long track starts with some very delicate Sinéad vocals and soon she's
joined by Iarla - the only companion to their voices is a bozouki. It's a
lovely traditional song and both Iarla (who mostly sings in Gaelic) and
Sinéad sound awesome.

Hope this helps!

Deniz

SINGING BIRD

I've seen the lark so high at noon
Heard his song up in the blue
I've heard the song bird pipe his nose
The trash the ..... too

But there's none of them can sing so sweet
My singing bird as you
My singing bird as you

<Iarla's Gaelic part>

If I could lure my singing bird
>From his own cosy nest
If I could catch my singing bird
I would warm him on my breast

For there's none of them can sing so sweet
My singing bird as you
My singing bird as you

<Iarla's Gaelic part>

My singing bird as you

Hello everyone,
I've been on the list for a while now (it's nice to see how it's really
woken up recently with the new album and all), but I've only posted a
couple of times so I thought I'd introduce myself.
I know that the best place to do this would be on the fan page, but I never
bookmarked the site and I always delete my mail so I can't find it at the
moment. Never mind. I'm Matthew, I'm 18 and I live near Liverpool in the UK.
I've been a Sinead fan for about a year now. I first heard her years ago,
when Mandinka was on a compilation album that my brother had, and I've
always been fascinated with her, so it's a shame that it took me this long
to act upon it because I sure missed a lot of stuff!
My favourite album is 'Gospel Oak', and then 'I Do Not Want...' and
'Universal Mother' are tied for second place. I don't really like to rate
the albums though; I think it's just great that there are so many different
aspects to her work. It's a privilege to watch her evolve.
I've just been watching a show I taped a while ago called 'Faith and Music'
(or something like that) which basically gives a platform to pop stars and
the like to discuss their religious beliefs. I hadn't seen this for a while,
and it was great to see it again. I don't know who else has seen this, but
Sinead discussed a lot of stuff from her son, to the famine, to God, to her
mother. I always enjoy watching her because she is so sincere and intense,
and I loved seeing some clips from promo videos that I hadn't seen before
like 'Three Babies' and 'My Special Child'. One thing puzzled me though - I
remember once seeing the incident at Madison Square Garden with the booing,
and now I don't know how I managed to see it. I thought it was shown on the
'Faith and Music' programme but obviously it wasn't. Anyway, I have a
question. What exactly did she say when she took out her earpiece? I thought
it was so courageous of her to do so, I almost pumped my fist in the air the
first time I saw it.

Anyway, this is going on a bit, so I'll stop.
I just wanted to say a little bit about myself; I'd like to get to know you
all. I've seen your names pop up so many times, and it's been nice to see
some faces to go with them, so I thought I should stop lurking and show my
face (so to speak).

Matthew

Other artists I like include:
Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Madonna, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Bjork, Kate Bush,
Ani Difranco, Alanis Morissette, Hole.

The secret relationship that she does have with the "lovin' man, but he's a
spirit" is God, right? Regular men are the ones that fake you and cause you
pain, but this spirit lover never treats her bad or takes away all his love,
instead he
forgives her a million times over. Very John Donne-ish, I might say. How
cool. So maybe it doesn't come out under the name Mother Burnadette, and
I'll be surprised if it gets American Christian Radio play, but she makes a
very poppy love song to God that's right in line with her brand of feminism.
Brill!

Anyone know which producers are associated with this song in particular?

Also, obvious admirations aside, I'm not sure exactly what I think of the
song. Does it sound dated to you guys? To me (and what the hell do I know
about these things) it almost sounds generically early to mid-nineties, or
maybe even eighties in its peppishness. But I don't listen to current music
much, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on. What kind of airplay do you
guys think it'll get? I'm not sure.

thanks,
Jess

Hello,
The phrasing of the lyrics to No Man's Woman are incredible. I do like it
very much as well. And Sinead's voice is very powerfull. Fantastic. I really
like it as well!!! It is kind of poppy but because of Sinead it stands on
it's own! WOW!!!!

PHEW!!!

What an experience it was - my knees are still trembling!
I must say that the new song is very catchy and also popsy like no other
Sinéad song! I'm sure it'll get LOTS OF airplay, it could really do well in
the charts, as well!
... and finally, yes, I LOVE IT!! ;-))

Thank you Marcel!

It seems HIGHLY likely that we'll hear many remixes -maybe a club remix as
well!- of this song, no?

DENIZ

I hope you're right about the remixes and airplay, Deniz! I don't think
she's sung with such intensity and volume since The Lion and the Cobra. She
belts out the whole song.

Hi to all of you.

Im keep loosing the mails I write. They were all about the same thing; the new song. They were super long but this one is gonna be short cause I'm tired of taking a lot of time to write and then loose everything.

It's been a while since I wrote to the list. Basically I just wanted to say that I seem to B the only one who was shocked by No Man's Woman.
For me that song is not Sinead. It's ''what you hear on the radio'' type of stuff. The voice is really gorgeous, the beats are cool(a la I am Stretched) the mandinka-ish guitars, the violins.....but the melody is really common and it makes me sad.

I like ALL of the songs I ever heard from Sinead(and I collect and heard a lot) but this one is the first one I am deceived of.

I hope it will grow on me(after all I didn't like Jackie and a bunch of songs the first time and today they are my faves you know)or that I'll like the album better.

Anyway, I had to say it. I'm really sad about it, but glad for all of you cause you all seem to enjoy it very much.

See you,

Melissa

you know, to be honest, that was my initial reaction
when i first heard 'no man's woman'. her voice was
superb, and the drum intro great, but there was
something abt it that disappointed me.... it felt
slick, was too easy to hum along to, plus the hook too
radio-friendly....

but i've listened and re-listened to the track 10,000
time -- but maybe im naturally biased -- but hey,
*that's* what i like abt sinead. she never fails to
surprise.

she shocks you in the most natural way -- i guess it's
probably my own innate prejudice against anything
radio. what i like is the way she sneaks in her
religious mission in the most sly, subversive way --
instead of going preachy and diffident, she makes it
so pop-palatable you'd never suspected. jars of clay,
anyone?

my2cents,
kai chai.

My two cents - I love the new song and hope it brings Sinead some airplay.
My only small criticism is the second line "It don't make me happy this
mantrolling." The use of "mantrolling" seems a bit beneath Sinead's
writing ability. Its an overused phrase. I do love the beat and really
hope this cd mixes up the styles more then Gos. Oak.

Hi All !!

MERDE !!! AARRRGHH !!!
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN'T HEAR THE SONG ????
Sorry for shouting but it really annoys me... I downloaded the file froom
Mars-L's site and when I try to play it, all I get is a message saying
"this is not a realaudio file" :o((( Did anyone have the same problem ???
Should I throw my computer out the window ?? Commit suicide ?

I can't wait to get at least the opportunity to hear it... it is really
frustrating to read what you all have to say on it without being able to
make my own opinion....

OK, I'll try to download another software to listen to it :o))

A bientot
Sophie :o))

Hi Sophie,

Do you have Winzip? And does your e-mail server handle e-mail downloads over
2mg? If so, I can zip the file and send it to you.

Let me know....

Love,
Dark aka Maria

Hello jitr:
Im a new member to this list. I joined because I'm truly fascinated by Sinead
and have been in love with her since I was at least 20. (i'm now 32) I also
joined because I wanted information about her and when she would be coming to
the east coast of the US to tour. I have never seen her in concert, but am
craving the sight of her....the sound of her.

I am confused by one thing here. Is Her new CD out? Why do some people seem
to have Her music and others do not? I read somewhere that Sinead's new Cd
will be released on April 20 in my neck of the woods, or should I say this
part of the planet. I also heard that Sinead's CD was suppose to be released
last month. I am wondering if someone somewhere could get me up to date on
what is going on. Also, I was wondering if and when She goes on tour, no
matter where if someone could let me know. I' m willing to travel to see such
a Goddess and oh is She a Goddess.

By the way my name is Molly. I live in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, in the USA.
I am looking forward to hearing anything from anyone. I am going on holiday,
I will be back next week to respond to anyone that has emailed me. Thanks!

Molly
