I have been to www.atlantic-records.com and look at
the artist index (she is signed to atlantic) but they
have no information on her...is it me or does it seem
like she is always ignored?

Hi there,

I did the same thing too, but I guess since Sinéad hasn't yet released
something through the company, she isn't featured on their web-site.

I don't think that Atlantic Records will ever ignore Sinéad O'Connor, as
they spent tons of money to sign her to their label. Indeed, I really
believe that they will promote Sinéad very well.

Has anyone read what the head of Atlantic Records said about Sinéad? They
seem very ethusiastic about her.

Love and light,

Deniz

Just thinking about the spate of comments about Sinead's pregnancies on this
list.

In all fairness, I have skipped past most of the comments, so forgive if I
am going over old ground.

It is indicative of the old attitudes that still rule our lives that we
seize on one celebrity woman's pregnancies as some indicator of worth, while
men of similar visibility are totally ignored when it comes to
considerations of some "stability."

Why is it that Mick Jagger is so quickly ignored when it comes to his
multi-multi-multi encounters, while one woman who has enough of an attention
span to commit to 9 month of random discomfort for the sake of life is
vilified?

Sinead's pregnancies are her business. That is, unless we were to be
interested enough to hold a "cyber-shower" to send her a token of the good
wishes of most folks here.

And while this list is devoted to Sinead's music and the example of her
personality in meeting the challenge of our times, I suspect that a more
useful attitude toward her pregannciies will be to wish her well, instead of
becoming a branch ofice of the National Inquirer.

Long live, Sinead.

Just a note,

During a CNN special on woodstock and lillith they had various clips of the
Atlanta lillith show and in one of them Sinead is singing with Chrissy Hynde
and while Sinead is singing (wearing her collar) Chrissy kneels down in front
of her in mock prayer. The crowd roared and it was very cool.

bim sherman is likely to be a co-writer/singer,'cos as far as i know,
adrian sherwood has been a long-time producer of bim sherman's albums.
they're all probably working together on the same sinead track(s).

I keep checking up on the web site, too. I just figured since their
main headings on artists' pages are for tours and promoting albums and
since Sinead hasn't released an album or done a tour with Atlantic yet,
that that was why they had no mention of her as of yet. I mean, really
what are they going to do -- rehash her career to date with other
lables? I have faith that she'll be added once there's stuff to add re
new album.

Though, it would be nice to have more info about the up coming album.

Last Monday, I returned from my first international voyage ever...I came
back from Dublin! It was awesome. Made sure to take snapshots of Dublin
Zoo (re: "Red Football"), The Bad Ass Cafe, and the plaque outside the
Bad Ass proclaiming that Sinead worked there. I also ate there (okay,
pretty Americanish). At Tower, I found the single with Zuccero (pretty
boring song, but I've never seen it in the USA). There was also this
great cd shop, I forget the name, but it was in the Merchant's Arch that
leads from Temple Bar Sq to the Liffey. Anyway, he had cassettes of
Sinead in Dublin, 1997, and at the Glastonbury Festival, 1995. The first
was exciting, the second was okay, but nothing new if you have the Visions
cd, it had great sound quality, though, because it was recorded from a
radio broadcast.

Anyway, besides Sineadiana, anyone considering a visit to Dublin MUST go!
It was charming and beautiful, yet very cool...a combination that doesn't
exist in the US.

Two London papers reported that Sinead was at the premier of Eddy Izzard's new
show this weekend, and she was hanging out with Madonna both there and at a
place called The Ivy. So Sinead and Madonna are gal pals. I guess this means
that Sinead is finished recording in Atlanta, and maybe they just have to print
the album!

Hi there,

According to a radical-left news group, Sinéad O'Connor will be
joining Lilith Fair on August 6, along with Bonnie Raitt, Indigo
Girls, Emmy Lou Harris, and many others. The concert will take
place in New York City, at the Jones Beach.

The papers screwed up, Madonna was out with Ingrid - NOT Sinead O' Connor.
They look pretty similar though, but it was 100% Ingrid.

You're right - I saw the photo and "Sinead" had hair - we all know the real
Sinead recently shaved her head again and is recording in Atlanta. Ingrid
and Sinead do look very similar, I agree ;-)

hello -

dunno who asked about this, or if anyone responded but Miss O'Connor did
indeed get a nice blurb in spin magazine.

IDNWWIHG is #44 of the top 90 album of the 90's (nevermind is #1)
a very delicious picture with the words "what would Jesus do? rabble-rouser
Sinead O'Connor" is above the following article:

"the main thing for me is to take reponsibility for myself" said Sinead
O'Connor shortly after finishing her second album. "thats the lesson i need
to learn." over the next few years she learned it the hard way. from
verbally sparring with andrew "dice" clay and frank sinatra to shredding a
picture of the pope on television, O'Connor got herself into trouble not just
because of her beliefs, but because she had the audacity to act on them in a
way very few females entertainers ever had. combined with her shaved head and
the raw power of her singing voice, she scared the shit out of people.
IDNWWIHG gave O'Connor a platform radicals dont usually have: the attention
of ordinary softies who like a nice love song. her haunting rendition of
prince's NC2U won her an instant audience that wasnt prepared for the
proto-riot grrrl lurking within - or the rest of her starkly personal album.
"the label didnt want to release it because they said it was like reading
someone's diary", says John Reynolds, O'Connor's then-husband and current
drummer and musical director. "there was an argument, and Sinead said 'drop
me'. they changed their minds"

Someday I'll meet a real live record executive and maybe they will seem human
but in the meantime I wonder how anyone can be so consistantly stupid.

Hello!

Here's a contest for list members, and it's mostly from Melissa Guay:

a LIVE 2-cd set of 1990 shows (both are CD-Rs)

Basically, it's the Lion in the Cage and the Beautiful Vision bootlegs
copied onto CD-R, and I've designed a nice sleeve which has all the songs
listed on the back! Also, for convenience I've put both discs into one
2-cd jewel-case! It looks very nice, and I've put the title of the set
(Sinead O'Connor LIVE 1990) on the front and sides, just like on a
regular CD!! The only problem with these CDs (and the reason we're
giving them away) is that CD1 seems to have some distortion through the
recording, but you can still hear it pretty well. CD2 is recorded
perfectly EXCEPT there is a brief space between each song! The person
who made the copy for me somehow programmed that in, not realizing that
there would be audience cheering between songs (also there is a flaw
during NC2U)... So if you don't mind getting some flawed CDs (they are
free, after all), then please e-mail me with your NAME and ADDRESS.
Anyone who doesn't send both of these as an entry will have his/her entry
immediately deleted! Please just one entry per person, and please only
enter if you don't already have copies of the bootlegs and really want
these CDs. Please don't have non-JITR friends enter; this is only for
people on the list (that probably goes without saying, but I just thought
I'd clarify it). The entry deadline will be at 9:00 PM Mountain Standard
Time on Thursday, August 5th (in 2 days). I'll pay to ship it to the
winner anywhere in the world, but of course I can't do anything if it
gets lost (I thought you were lost).

This is basically a gift from Melissa, because CD1 was hers, and CD2 was
copied from her CD (with spaces added between songs). So whoever wins be
sure to tell her thank-you!

song-list:

CD1
feel so different, the emperor's new clothes, I want your (hands on me),
three babies, black boys on mopeds, donald-o, I am stretched on your
grave, the last day of our acquaintance, nothing compares 2 u*,
jerusalem, mandinka, black is the colour of my true love's hair, my
special child

*on the case I accidentally typed "jump in the river," which is actually
nothing compares 2 u--jitr is only on CD2

CD2
feel so different, the emperor's new clothes, I want your (hands on me),
you cause as much sorrow, three babies, black boys on mopeds, the last
day of our acquaintance, jump in the river, nothing compares 2 u,
jerusalem, mandinka, troy

Good luck!

-Ben

I was looking at the Cranberries' new single today and I noticed the song
'Paparazzi On Mopeds' is track 2. Does anyone know if this song is
connected to 'Black Boys On Mopeds' in any way?

I bought the 12" promo single for "I WANT YOUR HANDS ON ME" feat. the MC Lyte
rap. The track listing is

1. IWYHOM
2. Just Call Me Joe
1. IWYHOM (dance mix)
2. IWYHOM (street mix)

Does anyone know where I can get it on CD? I would be willing to trade my
12" for the CD maxi or something.

If you listen to the lyrics of papparazi it will become clear that it has
nothing to do with black boys. Papparazi on mopeds is about princes Diana
and that they were hunted by papparazi, due driving to fast to avoid them
and eventually crash in that tunnel.

hi,

thanks to gina who uploaded sinead's saturday night session with the
pope picture. the file is really big -> 20 MB. if you want to download it
try this link:

http://www.sinead-oconnor.com/audio/snl.rm

if you're connection is fast enough (a normal modem won't do it!) you
can also view it streaming at:

http://www.sinead-oconnor.com/audio/snl.ram

please download it soon - i'll have to remove the file in about a month
because it takes too much serverspace and bandwith.

bye

"Madame George" is a song by Van Morrison, from the album ASTRAL WEEKS.
(Van Morrison is know to have been sort of a mentor to Sinead.)

A short glossary page on who/what "Madame George" is supposed to refer
to can be found at:

Hi,

I would just like to say that realplayer video sucks
because you can't really see the picture and the pope
clip kept coming in short segments and then it would
take 5 mins to buffer the clip and play maybe 30 more
secs....it took too long so i didn't see it all

I would suggest that if anyone knows how to encode
this realvideo clip into an avi file it would be much
better. For people who do not know an avi file is a
type of video format....it displays the picture
clearly and in real time so there is no waiting like
there is with realplayer. AVIs can be viewed with
windows95/98 the program to view them is built into
the system

if anyone knows how to make the realplayer video of
sinead into an avi please let the list know please i
would like to see this clip!

.......i'm speechless... I haven't seen that clip since the night
it originally aired and my reaction has remained basically the same,
except I didn't laugh this time at the end -hey, I was younger back
then and I didn't know much about catholicism or of Sinead, except for
NC2U...watching her sing still has me totally in a spell...it's just
soo intense...and now that i know a little more about her, the
ending just gives me chills up my spine...my G*D that took big b*lls
to rip up that picture on live tv! You'd need a chainsaw to cut through
the tension in that room, i bet.

I'd like to thank Gina for uploading this huge file! I'm still replaying
it over and over...wish there was a way to save it!
And thankyoos to Roman for hosting this clip!

Btw: it took me almost an hour and a half to download it on a 56k modem,
but it was worth it! And there were no pauses when it played.

PS: anyone know what that guy yells out after she rips up the picture?
sounds like "bravo" or "baaboo" or something like that.

Glossary entry for
George, Madame

Debate is never-ending on the meaning (and the identity) of Madame George.
Rumor has it that the song was originally titled "Madame Joy", and the way
that Van sings it, it could be heard as either!
According to the liner notes from Bang Masters:

"Madame George" is a song about saying goodbye to one's youthful friends and
the old scene - it's a song about outgrowing a place and moving on. The
lyric describes a party full of laughing, rowdy people. The singer, who
finds himself no longer feeling like one of the gang, looks around for the
last time and then slips out into the night to catch a train that will take
him away. As he moves toward the station, he hears the party growing softer
behind him...
Some listeners have always maintained that Madame George is a transvestite,
owing to her name and to the line about "playing dominoes in drag." In the
early '70s, Rolling Stone asked Van if Madame George was a drag queen and
Van said absolutely not. More than ten years later he told Musician, "Madame
George was about six or seven different people who probably couldn't find
themselves in there if they tried."..."

Lester Bangs talks a bit about Madame George in his classic review of Astral
Weeks, while Gerald Dawe includes an appreciation of "Madame George" in his
1998 book The Rest Is History.
As a footnote, Irish singer Sinead O'Connor pays a tribute of sorts to
Madame George, with a reference in the lyrics to her song "Black Boys On
Mopeds" on the album I do not want what I haven't got:

England's not the mythical land of Madame George and roses
It's the home of police who kill blacks boys on mopeds
Van references in:

"Madame George" (on Astral Weeks)
"Madame George" (on T. B. Sheets)
"Madame George" (on Bang Masters)

A friend of mine was at a bar in Atlanta Monday nite and ran into Sinead. He is
not a fan so it was not a big deal to him, but he did get his picture taken with
her and he said that she sang an Elvis song. I am going to scan his picture as
well for anyone interested. Now, I am going on a quest to find Sinead. She is
somewhere in my city and I must meet her.....Amanda

hi,

to play a realmovie file, in high quality like this one, online you need a
permanent connection to the internet (cable modem, T1 line,...). a modem
like 56k or ISDN won't do. in this case you'll have to download the file to
your harddisk first before you can play it. if it doesn't play fluently from
your harddisk then your PC might be too slow.

about the avi-idea: avi is a format that is uncompressed while realmovies
are compressed and take only very little space. even in a compressed format
the files still has 20 MB. if you'd download a file of that quality (gina,
it's really great!) in avi-format that might take 200 MB or more. i don't
think that anyone will do this and nobody will host this file - at least not
me! keep in mind that serverspace and bandwith are not for free -> someone
has to pay for it! ;-)

for the ones who are able to download and play it: enjoy it!
for the others: sorry i can't help you! :)

bye

roman

Hi there,

I've just watched the clip over and over again. What a perfect sound and
image quality! Thanks to Gina and Roman for giving this great opportunity to
us.

It's been nearly 7 years since the last (and the only) time I've watched it,
and I was only 9 years old then and not a real Sinéad fan. The only scene I
could remember was her blowing out the candles, so it's been an extremely
big pleasure to watch it in whole today again.

The thing that has fascinated me most is her voice. It's very enchanting and
confident. It wobbles and soars through the song - it is right from the
heart. I think it's one of her best performances, and so much better than
the Bob Dylan Aniversary version.

I've recorded the song and I guess I'll listen to it a thousand times until
I'll get Eduard to record that one on a CD for me.

Love and light,

(A very happy) Deniz

Hello,

Well this is not really Sinead related, but I want to let the list
know that my debut CD is now availble on-line at

	http://www.guitar9.com/modernrock.html

They are $12.00 for the CD. 15 tracks of high energy rock guitar. Well, I'm
pleased with it anyway. I was very influenced by Sinead's
music,voice,etc...I love to hear about Sinead in Atlanta, neat.

Thanks and I'll only post this one time to not make a nuisance of myself,
Denis

amanda,

thanks for the info! the vision of sinead having a whale of time
singin' and swinging' to 'jailhouse rock' is now dancing in my mind:)

anyway, can we trouble you if you can ask yr lucky friend how she was,
what she wore, was she alone, what did she say?, anything abt how the
new album's coming along, and was she "spotted and dragged" onto the
stage, or simply waltzed onto the stage of her own accord.... in short,
EVERY LITTLE THING!

thanks.

kai chai.

Hello,

I've just done a random drawing for the contest for the live 2-CD set,
and the winner is JESSECA!! Congratulations Jesseca, the CDs will be in
the mail shortly.

P.S. I'm auctioning a Jah Wobble import CD (Sinead is on 2 of the songs)
on eBay with a starting bid of just $4.00. The link is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=142656699

P.P.S. My e-mail program just got really messed up, so if anyone has
sent me messages in the past few hours, I might not have received them or
lost them or something...

I have here for sale:

MY SPECIAL CHILD cd-single (UK version, in slim case)
1. My Special Child
2. Nothing Compares 2 U - live
3. Emperor's New Clothes - live
4. My Special Child - instrumental

This is a song no true Sinead fan should be without. I'm actually quite
surprised it wasn't included on her "So Far, the Best of" CD. Anyway,
the CD and sleeve are in excellent condition. E-mail me if you're
interested.

Price: $15 plus shipping.

Also, on eBay I'm auctioning a mint copy of the Gael Force CD, which has
a special live version of Thank You For Hearing Me (different from the
version on the single of This IS a Rebel Song). The link is:

Thanks.

And what a beautiful version it is! What a great interpretation. This woman
is a real gem... I urge anyone to check out her latest album, Vegabond Ways.
It's fantastic.

Hi there!,
I just got back from one-week-journey in Wien (what a lovely city!) and I
found this cd in the famous flea market:
SINEAD O'CONNOR -SINGLES- soc-1447-s
1 nothing compares 2u
2 fire on babylon
3 jerusalem
4 i want your hands
5 the emperor's..
6 thank you for hearing...
7 don't cry for me...
8 success has made a...
9 famine /j.reynolds edit
10 i want to be loved by you
11 mandinka
12 three babies
13 all apologies
14 house of the rising sun
15 streets of london

It looks like a bootleg but on the cd appears the writing "ALL RIGHTS OF
THE PRODUCER RESERVED... UNAUTHORISED COPYING,LENDING, HIRING...PROHIBITED"
and this is not normal for a bootleg.

the cover is a not very good scan of the emperors new clothes cd-single.

can someone tell me what is this strange cd? (roman,Mars-l)

hi diego,

it depends on yr musical taste, really. if you like stuff like asian
dub foundation, hip-hop, sampling, hardcore dance, this might be yr
cuppa tea. there's also bim sherman (the reggae fella working with
sinead on her new album), and a certain ms leslie wiener (spelling?)
whom sinead fans would recognise is the lady who chants at the end of
'don't call me joe'.

hope that helps.

kai chai.

Hi Diego, hi all jitr people,

"Clear" is one of my all-time favorite albums... It's a mixture of hip hop/
drum and bass music and i really like it. You can clearly hear that Tim
Simenon is the mastermind of "Clear", just compare it with other Simenon
stuff (Fire on babylon, You made me the thief of your heart or the last
Depeche Mode album) - he has a very great producing style, and if you like
modern pop music, "Clear" is worth to listen....

So far,
shalom,
Daniel!

Hi,

I've once tried to listen to other songs on the clear album but it's all
not my cup of tea.
I like empire (because of Sinead), but the other songs are ehhh different.

Hi there,

I actually have a copy of this CD, too. But it's a bootleg, that's for sure.
Bootleggers are talented (!) fellas, they seem capable of copying everything
- even the copyright warning stuff. :)

The CD is actually included in Marcel's discography - anyone interested can
see the cover (which is really lovely) in his and Roman's site.

By the way, I have another bootleg Sinéad CD which hasn't been mentioned
much in the list: Gospel Oak's bootleg edition. There are 14 songs - 6 GO
songs plus lots of non-album tracks and remixes.

They two are lovely items to have even if you have the songs on them. You
know, it never hurts to have extra!

Love and light,

Deniz

Hi there,

So didn't anyone go to see Lilith Fair in Jones Beach, NYC on August 6?

I'm really curious about Sinéad's performance - or if she was there, of
course. The site doesn't yet say anything. I think I'll check Deja News and
let you know if I can get a bit of info...

Love and light,

Deniz

Thank YOU so much to Deniz, Daniel, Kai, Eduard, Bruno, etc., for the
information! Now that I've got your opinions it turns easier...
Did finally Sinéad perform at Jones Beach?? It'd be great to know what she
sang...by the way, the Irish group The Cranberries are performing at Jones
Beach, August 14th...(I love 'em).
Later,
Diego

God commanded his angels concerning you
To protect you in all your ways
They will carry you up in their arms
To keep your foot from striking a stone
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra
You will trample the great lion and serpent

Hi all,

I've been making another cdr, this time it's one with the (in my opinion)
rarest tracks from Sinead.
The songs are (but not in this order):
- ave Maria (from hush a bye babe)
- Song with no name
- War (pope)
- Almost in your arms
- Fly me too the moon
- Monkey in winter
- Heroine (mix II)
- Silent night (long version from ghost of oxford street)
- Danny boy (full a cappella version)
- Someday my prince will come
- Biko (remix)
- I am not your baby (alternate version)
- I want your hands on me 7" version with mc lythe
- Jump in the river 7" version (from married to the mob)
- Still listening
- What do you want
- Love is a stranger (live)
- Sweet dreams (live)
- Dream a little dream of me (live)
- Make me a channel of your peace (live)
- Morning time
- Beautiful bandoran (only 20 sec from the movie)
- Everything comes from you (only 30 sec from the explora cdr)
- You'd be surprised (again, only a few seconds from the EPK)
- Roisin dubh (again, only seconds (a minute maybe)

If interested in this one, or want some other tracks on it.
Just let me know.
As usual it'll be $10 including postage, send without the jewel case.

Is anyone out there able to see a difference between Heroine's original mix
and Mix II, except for the latter being a few seconds longer?

Love and light,

Deniz
