Hi
When Marcel first made mention a few weeks ago of the possibility of the
Lilith Fair coming to the Royal Albert Hall and of Sinead's
participation, I immediately called both the Royal Albert Hall and
Sinead's press office to confirm the date and was told that all dates
from now until January 2000 were filled by other events at the RAH and
that Sinead was busy recording her new album and wouldn't have time to
participate anyway! Then, on Friday night, whilst reading the London
Evening Standard what do I see but a large picture of Sinead alongside
an article declaring that the Lilith Fair was coming to town...a few
pages later, in the live ads section I spot a small advert for the
event. (I wasn't able to get a message out to the list until today,
however I see that someone else posted this on Friday. Just out of
interest Sumiko, how did you find out about it???) I have managed to
get 6th row tickets for the gig (these from the RAH direct) but only
because hardly anyone has seen the advert. My point is, I hate to be
misinformed and I was lucky..I hope anyone else planning to go gets good
seats too...but I'd ring now if I were you ;-)

Would someone who owns Success Has Made... HOLLAND version cd-single be
interested in trading it for both PARTS 1 AND 2 of the UK version of the
same single??? In other words, I recently bought parts 1 and 2 (in
almost new condition) for $25, and I'm sick of having so many CDs lying
around, so I'd like to minimize as much as possible. So if you have the
Holland version (0946 3 23900 2 8), which has (all on one disc):

- Success Has Made A Failure Of Our Home
- You Do Something To Me
- My Heart Belongs To Daddy
- Someone To Watch Over Me

...I will trade that for parts 1 & 2 of the same single (UK version),
which is actually the earlier, original release and contains all the
previously mentioned songs PLUS one more:

(UK: ENYCDS 656 part 1 of a 2cd-set)
- Success Has Made A Failure of Our Home
- You Do Something To Me
- I Want To Be Loved By You

(UK: ENYCD 656 part 2 of a 2cd-set)
- Success Has Made A Failure of Our Home
- My Heart Belongs To Daddy
- Someone To Watch Over Me

So if you're really a completist and want to get both of these in
exchange for the condensed Holland version, please e-mail me at
bengriffin@hotmail.com I recently noticed someone sold the Holland
version on the list for $9, so whoever made this trade with me would be
getting a bargain, considering that the two discs I have are nearly
new--I'm not sure, but I'd guess they were never played before I got
them... And if you just want to sell me the Holland version for $$$,
that's also a definite possibility!!

That's it
#Ben

I don't know anything except they signed last year with Blur Mountain label,
and they do background vocals on the album " Crazy for the week end" by
Sunhouse ( and Sinead of course on "Hard sun" but you already knew this

hello,

there is a boy on the cover of the Success ... single who was beaten by
police. Aside from the whole Colin Roach stuff, did Sinead ever herself
mention the boy on the cover, police brutality or address that
situation/problem during the release of that single or ever afterwards?

thanx

later,

bilal :)

I'm not sure if the Australian release of AINYG has the 3 bonus tracks
like the rare Japanese version, but if it does, it can be found (on CD)
at http://gemm.com/ for $34.85, but it says it's "BACKORDERABLE,"
whatever that means...  I don't know anything about this online store;
I've never ordered anything from them, but I know some people are
desperately looking for those bonus tracks... so it's worth a try.

Hello jitr,

I have some Sinead items for sale. I really don't know how to price
them, so if you're interested, just mail me with a reasonable offer.
Also email me if you'd like more information.

12" single "She" by The Colourfield. Sinead sings "Monkey in Winter" on
this.

cds--This is a Rebel Song (w/ Remix (3.03)) -- two songs in all.

cds--Success Has Made a Failure of Our Home (w/ You Do Something to Me
and I Want to Be Loved by You)

book--Sinead: Her Life and Music by Jimmy Guterman (1991). This copy
has stains on the inside cover and first page, so it's not in the best
condition!

Thanks,
Sara

A friend of mine was looking to MTV ( in France) yesterday and they couldn't
boradcast a programm because they did'n't have the tape on time, instead of
that, they showed some clips like NC2U and others with Sinead , and also a
short interview where she was speaking about the Russian problems ;-))

I was watching MuchMusic (a Canadian music station) a few days ago and
they played the video for Troy. They hardly ever play Sinead so I was
pretty excited. :-)

MATCHBOX 20 STRIKES AN ANONYMOUS '70S CHORD=20

BYLINE: ROBERT HILBURN, TIMES POP MUSIC CRITIC=A0=20

BODY:=20
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0Let's pretend for a moment that nothing interesting has=
 happened in
rock 'n' roll in, say, 20 years.=20

Let's erase the youthful, punk-driven introspection of Kurt Cobain and the
rest of the grunge movement that helped define a generation's confusion and
desire the way Bob Dylan and Lennon-McCartney did in earlier decades.=20

Let's also throw out the work of Sinead O'Connor, Polly Jean Harvey and the
others in a magnificent battery of liberating female voices who have
brought a new agenda and perspective to a rock world previously dominated
by men.=20

Also rule out such invaluable new influences as the cocksure swagger of
rap, the visceral charge of techno and the moody soundscapes of trip-hop.=20

Sounds pretty dull, right?=20

Welcome to Matchbox 20, whose "Yourself or Someone Like You" album has sold
more than 5 million copies and whose enthusiastic fans packed the Universal
Amphitheatre on Friday night.=20

On record, the obvious reference points for Matchbox 20 are the Counting
Crows and Hootie & the Blowfish, two other groups whose music sounds like
it was written by someone who stopped listening to albums during the Carter
administration.=20

Rob Thomas' vocal timbre even sounds a lot like the Crows' Adam Duritz,
which means you hear traces of everyone from Van Morrison to, especially in
Thomas' case, Bob Seger.=20

Matchbox 20, like the Crows and Hootie, has sold millions of records by
approximating the sound of an earlier era, which makes their music
reassuring for listeners who moan about the loss of classic songwriting
values in rock, but who don't seem to demand the challenge and
individuality that gave the best of that music its power.=20

The surprise on stage Friday was that Thomas had a far more intriguing
identity than you'd suspect from the Matchbox 20 album--one that may make
his future more worth monitoring than that of Duritz or Hootie's Darius
Rucker.=20

Unlike the '60s rock and soul strains of the Crows and Hootie, Thomas is
much more a creature of the '70s--one whose influences are rooted in the
pop of Elton John and Billy Joel.=20

One of Thomas' problems is that his lyrics don't take us beneath the
surface. We know that he's angry, that relationships never work out, that
life is tough for him. We also sense that he, like Joel, sees himself as a
survivor. But his lyrics lack both the character and revelation of the
words that Bernie Taupin writes for John.=20

Thomas' strength is that he is able to weave a remarkable number of
commercial hooks around his=20

words. Even musically, however, he doesn't break new ground. Thomas and his
cohorts in the Florida band need to give the arrangements a personal stamp
to do the melodies justice. As it is, the backing music is so anonymous
that Thomas, who moves about with considerable intensity, seems almost like
a man alone on stage.=20

Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner is another songwriter who knows how to construct
a hit, but he seems little more original than Thomas at this point in his
career. Though he has shown the ability to reach into himself for songs
that have an almost anthem-ish feel, he now seems simply struggling to find
something worth saying.=20

Semisonic is a promising band that is affecting when it strikes the right
balance between wry distance and heart, which it does in "Closing Time" and
some other tracks from its "Feeling Strangely Fine" album. On Friday,
however, the group couldn't seem to find the balance, leaving its set a
little cold.=20

hi kids---
i work with a woman who was on tour with lilith over the summer & i asked her
for dish about the tour yesterday when i saw her. she said everyone was nice
and she is not a star struck person AT ALL, but when SINEAD was in the same
room with her, she would get all goofy & tingly. (go figure!) so she said she
sort of tried to stay away from sinead so she wouldn't act like a fool....BUT
on the last day of sinead's part of the tour, my acquaintance was sitting in
the hotel lobby reading a paper when SINEAD came & plopped down next to her
and started to chat! she was very nice & wished everyone
well.

that's my living vicariously thru other people's sinead experiences story
for the day. have a good weekend everyone!

SPILLANE, LUNNY STAY TRUE TO IRISH ROOTS

                                -By Don Heckman

Davy Spillane and Donal Lunny are two of the great names in contemporary
Irish music. Together with Christy Moore, they founded the seminal
group, Moving Hearts in 1982, and both have new albums out this month.
Spillane has emerged as one of the most-heard players of the now-popular
Uilleann pipes (the instruments heard prominently on the "Titanic"
soundtrack), and the inspiration for the music of "Riverdance" (which
featured him in the initial London and U.S. runs).
Spillane's album, "The Sea of Dreams" (on Covert Records)
spotlights, is his description, "much slower tunes than I usually do. I
haven't really represented myself much as a traditional musician, but
the nature of this music, because it's slower, brings out the more
traditional sounds, especially in the ornamentation of the melodies."
There are, in addition to the passionately piped ballads, two tracks
performed by Sinéad O'Connor- "Dreaming Of The Bones" (with music by
Spillane and words by O'Connor) and the traditional "Danny Boy."
T wanted to get Sinéad involved in "Danny Boy," says Spillane,
"because I had a vision of doing a version that would be very tender,
and because we're talking about working on an album of hers done in
somewhat the same style.
"But 'Dreaming of the Bones' was the song that really amazed me. I
told Sinéad that I had this melody and wanted to see what she could do
with it. Then, in the middle of the album, my father died, and she
picked up on it, without saying anything to me about it, and wrote these
very moving lyrics."
Spillane is well aware of the marketing aspects of the current Irish
music boom, but he feels that another motivational factor may be present
as well.
"I think it's something very deep," he says, "something that reaches
down into what people have needed, historically, for centuries, back to
pre-Egyptian times. And maybe now it's Ireland's turn to fulfill that
need, to let people know that there is a rich culture there, far beyond
the 'Glocca Morra' image."
Lunny, a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in the Irish
bouzouki, also has been an enormously successful producer (Kate Bush,
Elvis Costello, Rod Stewart, Indigo Girls, etc.). Perhaps more than
anyone else, Lunny has brought more Irish music into the mainstream
(U2's Bono refers to him as "the sound man"). But he has done so
without losing contact with the music's traditional roots.
His new Blue Note album, "Coolfin," crosses genres easily, bringing
a kind of gentle pop sensibility to songs that feature vocals by
Maighread and Triona Ni Dhomhnaill and Hungarian diva Marta Sebestyen.

Hi,

I've been asked to describe the Troy video for the lovely people of
JITR. It was the album version of the song (not the 11 minute version
I've heard of) and it was very 1987, but pretty good. A lot of it
showed her just singing up close with a REALLY shaved head that look
like it was glowing. She kind of looked like an alien because of the
bright lights pointed on her. The camera kind of spun around her at
some points and there were some scenes where different moving
backgrounds of fire, landscapes and water showed through her and in the
background (-I know this sounds confusing). I didn't get to record it
or anything so I really didn't get to really study it so I'm not sure if
my description is that good, but it's what I remember.

Wayne :-)

BODY:=20
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0Davy Spillane and Donal Lunny are two of the great names i=
n
contemporary Irish music. Together with Christy Moore, they founded the
seminal group Moving Hearts in 1982, and both have new albums out this
month. Spillane has emerged as one of the most-heard players of the
now-popular Uilleann pipes (the instrument heard prominently on the
"Titanic" soundtrack), and the inspiration for the music of "Riverdance"
(which featured him in the initial London and U.S. runs).=20

Spillane's album, "The Sea of Dreams" (on Covert Records) spotlights, in
his description, "much slower tunes than I usually do. I haven't really
represented myself much as a traditional musician, but the nature of this
music, because it's slower, brings out the more traditional sounds,
especially in the ornamentation of the melodies."=20

There are, in addition to the passionately piped ballads, two tracks
performed by Sinead O'Connor--"The Dreaming of the Bones" (with music by
Spillane and words by O'Connor) and the traditional "Danny Boy."=20

"I wanted to get Sinead involved in 'Danny Boy,' " says Spillane, "because
I had a vision of doing a version that would be very tender, and because

Bollywood in L.A.: It's no secret that the Indian film industry, largely
centered in Bombay (or "Bollywood"), is one of the most prolific in the
world. Dominated by musical pictures, it has produced a seemingly endless
array of attractive male and female stars for the hundreds of romantic
films that pour out of the studios.=20

Four of those stars make a rare appearance in this country on Sept. 20 at
the Los Angeles Sports Arena in "Mega Stars 1998." The presentation, one of
two scheduled by Super Entertainment (vocal legend Lata Mangeshklar appears
at the Universal Amphitheatre on Oct. 4), features Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh
Khan, Kajol and Juhi Chawla. The names may not be familiar to Western
audiences, but their presence in a venue as large as the Sports Arena
testifies to the power of their celebrity among Southern California's
substantial Indian and Pakistani population. Information: (310) 829-2985.=20

Global Quick Takes: "World Music at the Warner Grand" opens its inaugural
season in October at San Pedro's Warner Grand Theatre. The series' five
concerts include programs by Cubanismo (Oct. 1), Mariachi Los Camperos de
Nati Cano (Dec. 10) and the Irish group Solas (March 18) Information: (310)
833-4813. . . .=20

A new world beat-oriented label, Siam Records, has been founded by Mike
Landy (who has produced or engineered albums by David Bowie, George Benson,
Kevin Eubanks, Chick Corea and others). Initial releases, due in October,
feature Bakithi Kumalo, bassist on Paul Simon's "Graceland," and a pairing
of Steve Khan and Rob Mounsey. . . .=20

Tumi Records, with its large catalog of Latin American recordings,
including releases from Chucho Valdez, Candido Fabre and Orquesta Aragon,
as well as dozens of CDs of indigenous music, is celebrating its 15th
anniversary with a series of new recordings, among them a four-CD boxed set
from Orquesta America and the Cuban All Stars.=20

A New York,

comme This is to mother you ou
la tendresse" , l'entend-on souffler doucement sur le superbe This is to
mother you.
A 30 ans, Sinead

New York, le 16 octobre 1992.
boulot d'artiste respectueux en reprenant le délicat I believe in you de
New York, le 12 juin 1997.
Je me

réussi à me faire oublier, à me fàire une place dans 1'ombre.
Pourtant, Dieu sait si j’aurais aimé qu'on me fiche la paix...
voulait me croire lorsqueje disais que ma mère me battait, jallais me fàire

Une seule écoute du somptueux This is to mother you suffira à s' en
Or, ce
Spirituellement, physiquement, sexuellement, je me sens totalement épanouie.

« Normalement, elle doit simplemmt chanter This is to

Hello you wonderful folks of jitr, :)

Anyhow, I was just revisiting The Charge of the Goddess in Universal Mother.
And this one portion of it stood out in my mind because it has a very
similar feel and tone to the lyrics of Petit Poulet.

Portion from Charge of the Goddess:

"I am the Mother of all living and my love is poured out on the earth

I am the beauty of the green earth, the white moon among the stars, and the
mystery of the waters, and the desire in the heart of a woman."

Selection from Petit Poulet:

"But... The voices are heard

Off all who cry

I am around you as long in the night

Kissing your plight

Baby child

Kissing your plight

Kissing your plight

I am the sun up in the sky

I am the moon also at night

I am the ground under your foot

I am holding you"

To me, both of the above selections sound *very* similar. In fact, after
noticing the similarity, it seemed that the above portion of Petit Poulet
was Sinead's way of translating the Charge of the Goddess. As well, I can't
but now think that the primary speaker in Petit Poulet is supposed to be the
"Goddess." Whatever the case is, the theosophical/pagan/wicca influence, I
think, manifests itself in this song.

I love that song btw :)

Well, I just thought it was an interesting similarity.

Later all,

Bilal :J)

The Charge of the Goddess

She says,

Whenever ye have need of anything, once in a month, and better to be =
when the moon is full, then shall ye assemble in some secret place; to =
these I shall teach things that are yet unknown and ye shall be free =
from all slavery.

Keep pure your highest ideal, strive ever toward it, let nothing stop =
you nor turn you aside.

Mine is the cup of the wine of life, and the cauldron of Cerridwen. I am =
the Mother of all living and my love IS poured out on the earth

I am the beauty of the green earth, the white moon among the stars, and =
the mystery of the waters, and the desire in the heart of a woman.

Before my face let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the =
raptures of the infinite. Know the mystery, that if that which thou =
seekest thou findest not within thee, thou wild never find it without =
thee,

For behold, I have been with thee from the beginning and I await thee =
now.

Blessed be

Hi everyone. I was watching the Butcher Boy the other night on video (it =
has just come out in the UK) and I noticed in the credits at the end =
that Sinead's character is described as 'Our Lady/ Colleen' . I then =
remembered that this had been brought up in JITR and I wondered if =
anyone had then answered the query. Well, the part Colleen does not =
refer to a second role in the movie but is the gaelic (Irish) word for =
lady. Therefore I think the idea is that Sinead's part as the Virgin =
Mary is actually supposed to be an Irish version of the Virgin Mary, =
which fits well with the idea of her having such a strong Irish accent =
and saying "for feck's sake" to Francie which is an Irish swear word =
(feck), although in the video (as opposed to the movie) I did notice =
that it sounded more like "fuck's sake". I don't know. Anyway, I thought =
you might be interested in the "Colleen" part if noone has already =
answered that query. If they have then please forgive me! Sarah. :-)

qualities is certainly to be thought, written and being sung by a
transformed Woman, alleviated. Six songs which show slow maturation, the
arrival with good port of an artist whom one believed unable of such a

albums of its turbulent career, Sinead O' Connor will however often have
tried to convene calms and serenity with the bedside of its songs, but
without much success. Not completely ready for the armistices or the
great handing-over in question, the Irish remained this soldier without

About all these carried out wars the knife between the teeth - against

Hello,

I've just listened to the clips of Dave Stewards cd but donb't know on
which song Sinead is "included". Does any of you ???
The cd sounds very good, techno/electronic music, but of a pretty good
quality....But could it be a bad cd if it's a Dave Steward album ;-)
I "fear" Sinead is in most songs as one of the backing singers.....

Hi all

This text is all in very pretentious journalist language, so I first
thought I was not able to translate it in decent english. But then I think
even my worst english could be better than this funny language only
computer speak.... Did anyone ever try to auto-translate something, say
from english to french and then back from french to english??? I did... And
it's a big laugh at the end.
Well it's gonna take some time since this is soooooooo long and written in
a soooooo journalistic style, but I can try to do it. If anyone is willing
to help... just tell me it'll be a real relief not to do it alone .
A bientot
Sophie

Hi jitr people,

yesterday, i asked at my recordstore for the release dates of Davy
Spillane's and Dave Stewart's new albums (in Germany).

It was said that "Sly Fi" (the new Stewart CD) will be available from
October, 26th 1998.

BUT he did not find the Spillane CD. Convert Records?! Hmmm, sounds like
an independent or sub-label. Does anybody know if there is a distributor
or sth. like that? How and when can i get this one?

Any info would be great.

Shalom,
Daniel.

I looked up Davy Spillane on Amazon.com and Sea of Dreams is listed as
coming out on Sept. 15th. Its priced like a domestic release so I
imagine that if you cannot find it in your local store (& don't want
to order it over the internet) it must be easy enough to order through
your local store in USA at least.

The only problem w/the cd is that it includes 'My Heart Goes On'. . .

HEADLINE: Die Kasernierung der Musik

BYLINE: Von Jean-Martin Buettner

BODY:

hier. Wenn nur die Musik nicht waere.

Wie vom Schlachthof

Denn was man sieht, passt nicht zu dem, was man hoert. Man sieht fette
schnarrenden Befehlston verabreichten Parolen.

Gemeinsam

mangelnde politische Korrektheit hinausweist. In ihnen triumphiert zum
einen die programmierte Einfallslosigkeit der Organisatoren. Zugleich
Was die Becken in Schwingung brachte, laesst

absehbar glattes Konzert hinlegt.

So
I'm sorry I wasn't

Einwuerfen afrikanischer Volksmusik verbindet.
