Hey world, I need some help. I saw the add for Sinead at the Guiness
Fleadh for this summer in the Village Voice. I don't think I'll be going
this year. Last year I went, and it was cool because it's the only time
I've seen her live (performing, at least), but I didn't like the stadium,
dirty ground, drunken fools setting. One benfit is that she's the
headliner for Saturday this year. Last year, Van Morrison was the
headliner, and Sinead was #2, performing right before him. This year
should be better because she'll have more time (only one hour last year),
maybe unlimited time. Also, there were drunken fools in the pit who were
only there for Morrison and couldn't wait to get Sinead off. This year,
Sinead will be the thing everyone is waiting for, so there should be a
better morale in the audience.

I WILL go if she's not lined up to play New York any other time. Can't
wait to hear the new songs she's writing for the album "to be released
later this year" (I'll believe that one when I see it!). Anyway, these
are my questions:

-has the Lilith Tour schedule been announced?
-if so, is there any reason to believe Sinead will have more than a lame
 music festival hour limit?
-is it/when is it coming to New York?

And, most importantly:

-DOES ANYONE KNOW IF SHE'S DOING HER OWN TOUR, NOT LINKED WITH ANY
FESTIVAL, THIS SUMMER???? (ie, will she play the Beacon like last year?)

Thanks a lot!

Kevin

First off, sorry that last message appeared twice (at least I think it
will). I forgot to erase the "Cc" line, whatever that does.

I am so excited for the Butcher Boy to come out! The only place I know of
that it's opening in New York right away is the Angelika, which is a
beautiful theatre. I will be there Friday for the 10pm show, I think.
Perhaps I may have to go earlier, to the 7:25pm show (I'm getting in line
for Tori Amos tix at 7am the next day, so it depends on how much sleep I
need to get). As I'm sure everyone's rushing to see the Butcher Boy
straight away, look for me! I'll be wearing a Sinead t-shirt for sure, so
if you spot me, introduce yourself. I'm Kevin. I always like meeting New
York JITR members.

Hey Everyone,

I sent my sister in Manhattan to HMV (music store) to get our Fleadh tix.
I thought it'd be a better idea than calling ticketmaster and having to pay
all those fees. Well she had to pay a $4.50 fee per ticket anyway! The
salesperson told her that it was still better than ordering by phone
because we didn't have to pay the shipping cost. I'm just pissed because
Randall's Island is a venue that doesn't have it's own ticket office - it's
basically just a park. So there's no way around the rip-off fees! Just
wanted everyone to know how much that stinks!

Does anyone in NYC know how we could have gotten around this?

thanks

-Deb

Todays addition on the homepage is a Real Audio file for the song she just
did once (maybe twice) during her concerts; SWEET VIOLET

I'm sure it works for RealAudio 5.0 but like to know wether it also works
with older versions. Thanx if you can help with info.

I read in the paper that Sinead is appearing in San Diego at Humphrey's on
June 23 with co-headliners, The Chieftains. Does anyone know if she is also
doing a concert in LA that week. I assume this is likely because she is
appearing in San Francisco and San Jose on the following Saturday, June 27.
The tickets for Humphrey's are available throught Ticketmaster for $52.00
each. Are there any JITR persons going?

Rudy

hi the good people of jitr,

wondering whether any of you can help this poor chap: i'll love to go to
new york this summer but i'd rather see sinead as part of the lilith fair
(as opposed to the fleadh), so that i could see the rest of the beautiful
lasses like sarah mclachlan, erykah badu, natalie merchant, etc as well.

do you know whether the lilith fair is coming to new york this year, and
whether sinead will be involved in the concert?

thanks a great deal in advance, and have a great weekend!

kai chai.

When I was in London last year, I was waiting outside the Barbican
after Sinead's show and some guy said that he had seen her driving
around. Being someone who likes cars, I asked what kind of car she
was driving, and he said it was a BMW--the basic model. For some
reason on my way to work this morning I remembered this and just
thought I would share it. Anyone who thinks this says anything about
Sinead, about me for posting it, about materialism, about how this
affects her music, or anything other than what it is should seriously
     consider lightening up a bit.

I wanna know who her insurance carrier is and, does she have occasion to ever put

Kelly Green

What model?
Standard

What year?
1978

 Two door or four?
Four, of course, so she can lug all her little rugrats on tour.

Manual or automatic?
Stickshift all the way baby!!

What kind of mileage does it get?
Excellent!! It's been around the block but is still good to go.

Does it have a CD player?
No...she just makes Jake hold a great big Boom Box so she can pump up NWA in
the suburbs.

Did she get a warrantee?
She did, but I think she tore it up.

Does she wear her seat belt?
Of course...she's no fool.

Does she have a secure child safety seat in back?
No. She just puts Roison in the trunk.

Did she get full coverage or just liability?
Full coverage.

Does it have a coffee cup holder?
Yes. Jake again. Kids do make the best little workers.

How does she take her coffee?
The same way she likes her men....naked.

What did she have for breakfast this morning?
She doesn't eat breakfast...it gives her the runs.

Does she watch South Park?
Yes. And is actually set to do a cover of "Kyle's Mom is a Bitch" and is
rumored to be covering the Christmas Poo song for A Very Special Christmas 4

What brand of tissue does she use to WHIPE HER LITTLE IRISH HEINEY ???
Charmin...but please...don't squeeze it.
  >>

AllState

and, does she have occasion to ever put lipstick on in the rear view?
Yes. Before every TV appearance, every concert and on her way to pick up
John, John, John, John or Jake.

Does she have a cell phone?
No. But, Jake has one of those little toy ones that just flashes and beeps.
Sometimes, when Sinead is feeling down and out, she just rides around town and
pretends to talk to somone on the other line...non-chalantley looking this way
and that to make sure someone sees her.

Hello,

A while back someone wrote there was a french article on a french web site;

Since a few weeks AltaVista gives the UNBELIEVEABLE option to translate a
web-page in some languages.
french -> english
english -> french
german -> english
english -> german
spanish -> english
english -> spanish
So now you can view the French article in translated englih, the
translation is not 100% but very good readable.

Here is the adress where you will find the translated page, though through
altavista you can get any page translated.

http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com

Hey Yelldie, HOW do you sneak into Randall's Island?! HOOK ME UP WITH
SOME OF THAT!!!

and

JESUS CHR*ST! I like hearing things like "Sinead drives a BMW." Who
cares? Well that's the point! It's fun pointless info. This group is
here to talk about Sinead, grand and opinionated, or trivial and factual.
And I'd like to know what kind of TP she uses, because my butt hurts
sometimes and I'm sure hers doesn't.

Oh my god, this is the most fun I've had in days! Thank you Miasma

ps, anyone who calls Sinead O'Connor "Shanaynay" has problems. (Don't
take this personally, whoever it was who originally wrote that...I
understand the irony you were employing.) My co-workers always call her
that just to annoy me and I always wanna splash hot coffee in their
faces...I work in a coffee shop and would LOVE to know how she takes her
coffee, just to have one perpetually ready for her entrance.

Finally saw the Butcher Boy, as it came to the States (at least NY and CA)
Friday, which is when I saw it. (I actually almost completed this
well-thought-out message last night, but the computer froze and now I'm
rewriting it with even less eloquence.) It was cool for three reasons:
1, When I entered the Angelika Film Center, they were playing Universal
Mother in the lobby!!! I loved the obscure homage...at least obscure to
so many people who weren't there for the Butcher Boy or didn't even know
Sinead was in the movie (overheard during the end credits: "That was
Sinead O'Connor?!"). I want to kiss the house manager for playing that
('specially if he's real cute)!!!
2, New York's biggest local hero, and national ham, former mayor, current
People's Court judge, Ed Koch was in the audience. (Overheard exchange in
men's room: "Mayor Koch!" "That's me" "What'd you think of the movie?" "It
was pretty bizarre")
3, The movie ROCKED!!! I was so compelled and drawn into it that when
Sinead first appeared, inanimate and still on the wall (that was
redundant), I didn't even applaud...the preceding scene was so stirring
that I was too busy regaining my composure. I've read the book, and it's
very faithfully adapted. Simply one of the greatest movies, one for the
canon.

And now, I will officially announce that there should be no more films for
1998...for I can already give the Oscars out and it's only April. It's
all based on 3 movies:

Best Picture:
Primary Colors, Mrs. Dalloway, Butcher Boy; BUTCHER BOY

Best Director:
Same 3 nominees; NEIL JORDAN

Best Actor:
"Henry" from PC, John Travolta for PC, Eadmonn Owens for BB; EADMONN OWENS

Best Actress:
Vanessa Redgrave for Mrs. D, Emma Thompson for PC; EMMA THOMPSOM
(or it should go to Julie Christie on gp's because she TOTALLY deserved it
last year!)

Best Featured Actor:
Stephen Rea for BB, Milo O'Shea for BB; STEPHEN REA

Best Featured Actress: (a toughy!)
Kathy Bates for PC, Sinead O'Connor for BB, Fiona Shaw for BB,
"Young Sally" from Mrs. D; a tie! (hey, it's happened!) SINEAD O'CONNOR
and KATHY BATES

Best Original Screenplay: (none qualify)

Best Adapted Screenplay:
Eileen Atkins for Mrs. D, Neil Jordan and Patrick McCabe for BB;
EILEEN ATKINS

Cinematography:
THE BUTCHER BOY

Song:
"SIREN" by Tori Amos from Great Expectations...okay, this brings in a 4th
movie...but it can't go to "The Butcher Boy" because it wasn't written for
the film, it's a traditional :(

Score:
THE BUTCHER BOY (the whole cd is so darn funky!)

Best Sound Editing, Costumes, Special Effects:
WHO CARES?

Okay, I'm going now,

In spite of the abuse I got from posting what I thought was just a
cute little piece of trivia, the Bimmer thing, I am going to share
my Butcher Boy experience. I saw the film at Sony Lincoln Square for
those of you in New York. I loved this movie, but found it difficult
to concentrate as I awaited Sinead's brief but magical appearances.
As for audience reaction, there were several people around me saying
things like, "That WAS Sinead O'Connor. God, she's so pretty with
hair." and, "What a beautiful song that was that Sinead sang." It was
quite a treat. The biggest film buff I know stated that it would be a
tremendous year if he saw a movie better than this.

     That's all.

 Levi's/Lilith Fair Talent Search Underway

One thing most people have wanted to see on Lilith Fair is
their favourite local band. Well, that opportunity is now a
real possibility. Lilith Fair has partnered with Levi's to
announce a series of talent searches in fourteen cities.
Local acoustic acts, either all-female or fronted by women,
are invited to submit a two song tape to the local promoters
for an opportunity to be awarded a slot on one of the Lilith
side stages in their city. The deadlines are fast
approaching in each city, so get moving!

To qualify, a two-song demo must be submitted by mail or in
person to the local promoter. Check here for the name and
address to send material to. Please note that these
deadlines are very firm and all material must be into the
local offices by 4pm. Due to production restrictions, all
artists must be acoustic in nature (or able to perform
acoustically) with a maximum of three people in the group.

>From the tapes submitted the local promoter will select a
number (for example 20 in Toronto) to perform at the local
showcase listed below. Artists that are selected to play in
the showcase will be contacted by the local promoter. From
the local showcase one artist will be chosen to perform at
the Lilith Fair show in that city.

The judging for each showcase will be organized locally by
the promoter working within guidelines that Lilith has
supplied each promoter. Generally the panel of judges will
consist of a representative from the promoter, a
representative from a local radio station, a local press
person and somebody in the music industry in that market.
At each showcase the artists will each be given the
opportunity to perform one song for the judges and the
audience. Did we mention that each of the showcases below
is open to the public? Come on out and show your support
for your favourite local act.

I can't wait to see this film! The Rolling Stone review was ridiculous. I'm
not sure what the jerk was saying but he did manage to put Neal Jordan down
for casting Sinead. Not because of her abilities but because of her
controversy! I couldn't beleive what I was reading.
Anyhow, I know the film will be great. Thanks for the reviews.

hi

if you know randall's island; to the left of the entence is a woods like area
of the park which covers the side of the stadium. you walk around the
perimeter untill you see a moat. it isn't deep and is easy to cross by
walking over rocks sticking out of the water. you'll see a fence and a
pavillion. this is the vip area, casually walk into it when no guards are
looking, and from there just walk into the concert. it's much easier than it
sounds, believe me. that's it.

I can support, unqualified, that Sinead as VM is one of the most brilliant
artistic casting decisions in any film ever. And I really strongly think
that I would feel this way even if I didn't give a darn fig for Sinead.
Not only does she truly look the part (Jordan claimed that solely as his
reason for the casting...glad he couldn't do that lame Marilyn Monroe
thing!), but she has the gentle/crass combo that perfectly suits the VM
that Francie conjures up. And her "controversy" is what makes her perfect
for the role. It suitably fits the irony that that character already is
full of. And most importantly, she's the ultra-lullabye-mother-figure
that should be the Virgin Mary.

I only transcribed pieces of the interveiw, but your welcome anyway! :-
) I am calling the interviewer "coolgurl" since she was

Sinead: The Jews used to worship "God the Mother"also, which is what
this symbol is about, Its called the Magen David , its uhhm The dot
symbolizes the presence of God and the two triangles symbolize the
masculine and feminine principals of God. Without the dot I symbolizes
chaos….
With the dot it's the presence of God which exist when you have that
union between the masculine and feminine, and chaos exist "as we see all
over the world" when there is an overdose of testosterone and not enough
compassion from the feminine principal

CoolGurl: Also I've always admired that in the media, you've always
spoken your mind, and always fought for what you believed in, and often
times, ya'know the press may have misinterpreted you
Or drawn on what you said negatively…. Do you feel media shy after
having been basically you could say in some regards "crucified" by the
media in some of the accounts they've delt with you?

Sinead: (with a grin) Well, I have to accept 50% of the responsibility
for all that stuff ya'know…you cant blame it entirely, and I can blame
it entirely on other people, you get what you attract. So, I don't
really want to get into blaming anybody, but I don't attract that
anymore, so I have noting to be afraid of.

CoolGurl: that audaciousness at one point is behind you, that
defiance….is the defiance still there?

Sinead: I think passion and love is where I was always coming from, and
I'm still coming from there, but I'm 30 years old now as compared to
when I put out my first record I was 20, and now I understand "I guess"
I mean I'm very proud of myself, so I want to be careful how I word
things cause I'm very very proud of what I did and didn't do, but now I
understand "I guess" the value of whispering things rather than
screaming, because people dont hear very well when your screaming in
their faces, BUT sometimes the man that doesn't lose his mind over some
things, has no mind to lose yaknow, if you didn't scream your head off
sometimes, you might go mad.

CoolGurl: Cause its not without bite sometimes, you don't have to
scream, as you say

Sinead: Well sometimes you don't have to, but sometimes you do have to
as well, I mean how you get to the point of being calm anyway, is by
puking it all out ya'know what I mean…and that's why I'm quite glad
about the things that I did do, but now its puked out, and I don't need
to go on with that, I just basically want to enjoy my life, and work…

CoolGurl: and you sing of God a lot in your album…who, what is God to
you?

Sinead: Well, I think that ehh "God" I always put an inverted commas,
nobody knows what it is, and I know just the same amount as anybody
else, which is nothing… I think though, and feel that its lots and lots
and lots of things, and one of the things that it is "I think" Is ones
own sub-conscious, another part of ones self, that one isnt always in
contact with, but is always trying to get in contact with us, and does
so through music, as well as some other ways, but I guess "God is Love
Man" that's basically what it is.

CoolGurl: In Petit Puolet you say religion doesn't provide any answers?

Sinead: I think religion, like music, cant save the world, but what it
can do is put its arms around you, and comfort you and help you get
through the world, but it cant tell you, I mean they've never met God
anymore than you or I have you know what I mean, they cant tell you
anymore than you can tell yourself.

CoolGurl: If God is over there, and theres all this crap between us and
ourselves as God, is life sort of a stripping away of that stuff, and
HOW DO YOU DO IT?

Sinead: Well, I don't think God is "over there" I think God is in there
(pointing to coolgurls heart) and that's what you maybe need to strip
away is the idea that God is over there

The line up for Lilith Fair will be announced April 16. It will also be
webcasted at the lilith fair site.

Double cd will be released couple days later including some live stuff. I
don't have knowledge that Sinead will lend a trk, but most likely.

ACtually, I believe the cd will feature live performances from last year's
Lilith, and I've seen what I thought was a finalized list of artists, and
Sinead wasn't among them. Sorry for the news.--mm

Hi all... and don!

I pulled my arm out of my shoulder socket the other day, and it got me to
thinking that maybe Sinead has done that at one time in her past. What
does everyone think?

Hello,

One of the most interesting interviews of 1997 is now on-line through
RealAudio made possible by LiveConcerts. The interview lasts over 50
minutes and includes a lot of chat about/with Sinead concerning The Gospel
Oak EP and more.
Included in this programm are songs of the Gospel Oak. But the most
interesting reason to listen to this show is that it is the only place
where you can hear the "I AM NOT YOUR BABY - demo" besides on my page but
thats just a copy of this show.
After this show the song was never aired again.

(that means; I haven't heard the entire show online, so I'm not sure wether
they kept this song/demo in the file or maybe deleted it to include the
original version.......)
If someone checked that please let me know.
Also if someone knows a way to record that show (which is officialy
disabled) please I'd like to know also. (I am already using RealAudioPlus)

Here's the adress;

Hello,

For the people who haven't seen the movie (yet), I placed a picture of
Sinead (as an winking maria) on the first page of the Sinead Mainpage
(Temporary)
It's a animated gif which costed me some hours to make, so excuse me for
advertising this picture that proudly ;-)

BTW; the song in the Trailer is the same as on the Album "Butcher Boy"

Hi Everyone:

HAPPY EASTER!

I was making some phone calls to the second hand stores in Toronto, and some
of the stores had the following for sale:

Record Peddler (619 Queen St. W. (E. of Bathurst)(504-3828)
- Gospel Oak (UK version) CD

Penguin Music (2 McCaul Street)(597-1687)
-Fire On Babylon/I Believe In You CD
-Fire On Babylon, I Believe in You, Streets of London & House of the Rising
Sun CD
-This Is A Rebel Song CD (with Thank You & Last Day Live) CD

Black Planet (Queen Street, East of Bathurst)(504-9261)
-This Is A Rebel Song CD (with Redemption & Fire On Babylon Live) CD

I don't think there's ever been this much Sinead stuff for sale at one time.

There is a record show (in Toronto) on Sunday, April 19, 1998, at 10:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m., at the Queensway Lions Centre (Kipling and the Queensway
Toronto). I'll be going; I've had some luck with them in the past (not just
with Sinead stuff). At this record show, there will be notices of other
record shows in Guelph, St. Catherine's, etc.

By for now.

Jane

I've been on this list for two days and have learned nothing about Sinead
O'Connor, the woman. Tour dates and places are great to know, but boring
to read.

If Sinead couldn't sing a note, would she still be a great person?
Better in general than you or me? Why or why not? If not, why do we
give a crap about her?

Hi!

As you know, Sinead plays Mother Mary in the gorgeous ButcherBoy movie.
Playing Our Lady, she sings a traditional called "Beautiful Bundoran".
It's an irish traditional. The shame: this song isn't included on the
soundtrack cd, there's only the title track "Butcher Boy" performed by
Sinead.

Is there anybody out there who can help me: I (and i think most of
the jitr people would like to have at least the excerpt sung in the film
to complete my sinead audio collection. IF YOU'RE GOING TO WATCH THAT
MOVIE: please, try to record this 30 seconds on tape - i missed that.

Or is anybody of you Neil Jordan or Elliot Goldenthal? Does anybody
work for Geffen Pictures or Columbia Records (home of regular sinead
recordings)? If so, please make the whole song available :-)

I'll be away for Easter holydays - HEY! HAPPY EASTER TO ALL THE JITR
PEOPLE. Peace, understanding, love, tolerance and even more love to all of
you!

In case this message appears twice or even three times - sorry! I don't
know what's wrong... Can anybody help me?
Feel free to e-mail me.

Shalom and some blessed Easter days, again!
Daniel.

Hello,

>From: lemew@juno.com (Lisa J Shadley)
>I've been on this list for two days and have learned nothing about Sinead
>O'Connor, the woman. =20

Believe it or not, but I'm glad to read this (personally). The reason why I
joined this mailing list is because I wanna know the concert dates, and new
releases, nothing more nothing less.

>Tour dates and places are great to know, but boring to read.
>If Sinead couldn't sing a note, would she still be a great person?=20
>Better in general than you or me? Why or why not? If not, why do we
>give a crap about her?

BECAUSE SHE'S A GREAT SINGER !!!
Her music is the only reason why we know her and why she want us to know
her, her messages/opinions are in her music.
Do you really think she wants us to know how often Roisin gets her bottle
of milk (hell why do I even know her child is named Roisin) ??? Who she's
doing it with (John, John, John & John)??? Where she's living (London,
Gospel Oak) ??? What her phone-number is (euhhhh???) ???
Do you think she wants us to know what she thinks of the IRA their war ???
YESSSSSS....... So listen to her music and you get to know her.

This is MY OPINION, I know every subscriber has his/her own reason to join,
and I don't have any problem with that.
Don't forget sometimes it's even better not to know the person
himself/herself..... Ever heard stories about Van Morrisson ??? Miles Davis
??? James Brown ???=20
If you want gossip; sin=E9ad even don't like Van The Man (what's in a=
 Name)....
As a fan of Prince his music or however you wanna name his control-freak,
I'm for sure I wil problably hate him in person, though his music is IMHO
superb. And that's al I wanna hear of him.....

So to make my point;
The songs of Sinead tell me all I wanna know about her and all she wants us
to know about her. So this mailing-list to me is just a source of
information to find out where she sings what.
