I just came across some info while browsing the CD Now site (http://www.
cdnow.com). They're already accepting pre-orders for the Butcher Boy
Soundtrack. They list March 17th as the expected release date. That's
only two weeks from this Tuesday! If they're correct, that is. As far
as artists, they list the following, and I quote: O'Connor/McCormack/
Calvert Goldenthal/Santo & Johnny. It is to be on EDEL American Records.
We've already read reports that Sinead sings the song "Beautiful
Bundoran." She could quite likely also sing the title track, and
hopefully many more. We may not have to wait long to find out.

Hey! I just realized this release date coincides with St. Patrick's Day!
Talk about your Luck of the Irish! If anyone has any more info, post
away, please. Take care all. Jim.

I meant to add this to my previous post. Does anyone know what's become
of our Patriarch of the Netherlands, Mr. Bobbink? His Sinead site hasn't
been added to since October, and his absence is really startin' to bug
me. It was such a crap-free, informative site, and I quite miss his
efforts and on-target answers. Furthermore, I e-mailed him that we truly
need some adult supervision, and I haven't heard back from him. I hope
everything is alright.

I've been wondering the same....
If anyone hears from him, let us know...

I love Sinead's version of "Silent Night," too, and I'm Jewish! In
fact, it's one of the few Christmas recordings I can stand, especially
during that time of year, when everything on the radio seems merrily
yuletide-obsessed and all the malls are red and green. But in
contrast to the singers on most of the other Christmas-themed
recordings, Sinead seems to genuinely mean what she's saying.

P.S. I also like Simon and Garfunkel's version, incidentally.

I found this on the Kate Bush Newsgroup:

"Hiya,

Going through a back issue of Q (51, dec 90), Sinead O'Connor says on
page 111 about singing Don't give up in Chile: 'I did the part that
Kate Bush -who I LOVE- did originally. I was thrilled to be Kate Bush
but inevitably I made a complete balls of it. But then I couldn't
hope to do it anywhere near as well as Kate Bush because she is a
Goddess.' "

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of this article / interview online?

Hello jitr,

This may have already been posted, but if it hasn't:

The Sessions at west 54th st site lists the Sinead episode to be
rebroadcast on April 18th. For those of us who missed it in the passed,
for weird reasons, maybe we should email our local PBS stations to find
out for certain on which date itll air. So that you don't end up with
a couple of tapes of Shawn Colvin instead or something funny like that.
:)

later all,

bilal

btw, someone emailed me and said the FireonBabylon real audio file was
taking much too long to download or somethin like that. if you
encountered similar probs, pls email me, and maybe ill just send it to you
directly.

Hi guys!

Could you please clarify me some doubts? It's quite old but it's been
bugging me in these last few days...
About Sinéad and Peter Gabriel.... I heard three different things:
	1) they had an affair
	2) she left him, that broke his heart terribly
	3) she was very interested on her but he didn't "answer" to her
"attacks" ,this was one of the things that contributed to all the pain
she was going through at the time of her suicide atempt

What of this is true or at least partially true???? And speaking of her
suicide attempt, Thank Goodness it never worked, I can't imagine my life
without Sinéad's song(that's true!). How was that? I know she got a
cocktail of vodka and pills but this didn't work cos some
sent-from-heaven soul found her on time or just cos the dosis wasn't
high enough? I know it may sound as a morbid curiosity but it's not. I
love her music so much that I was really scared when I heard about it. I
just wanted to know how things were...

	Thank you all....

	Chris

i read in an interview with sinead that she was interested in peter, both as a
father figure and as a lover, but he turned her down because she was so emotionally
unstable at that time. after he rejected her, she attempted suicide. that's
all i
really know about the situation, but i hope this info helps to clarify some things
for you :)

I read in an interview that she wanted to commit suicide for all the
backlash that she was getting from the media regarding SNL.... Also her
childhood and going through therapy is a pretty good wack on the head and
throws you sideways.... All that and maybe this deal with Peter (I haven't
heard about it till now) through her into the depression she was in.

My humble opinion,
Holli

I chatted with Marcel couple weeks ago. He responded that he does not
have much net time, that he get's on with less frequency now. I hope he
is not having any difficulties with his son Jae ;)

Marcel and I live about 30 kilometers away from each other and we sometimes
meet, sometimes call each other. Yesterday (Sunday) I had him on the phone.
He said that his son is taking much and much more time of him, this coupled
with his 40 hour job is almost all the time he has.
He only log-in once a week to see the mail.

I offered him to help him updating the Sinead page and one of these days
(anyway soon) we are going to meet. At least that's what I hope, depending
on weather he has time.

But basically, there are no major problems (at least he did not tell me
them) with him or his son. He just has no free time to reply, update etc.
He has his PC in the living room, but his son is starting to walk and touch
things so he has to move the PC. But when he is sitting somewhere else,
like in the attic then he can not spend time with his girlfriend and/or son
and he also wants to do that when he is at home.

So that's the story on Marcel.

I myself also hope that we can update his page soon, it was for me also a
big source of information.

I haven't heard anything about the soundtrack, but I saw the preview for
the movie, as I've mentioned before. Sinead sang a song over the preview
that had the words "the butcher boy" in it, so I assumed that it was a
title song.

hi,

my second server at dowcomputer.com is no longer working so all the links to
the pictures and audiofiles were broken for some time. i tried to fix it as
good as i could by moving all the files to the sinead-oconnor.com server.
unfortunately i'm running out of diskspace so i have the choice of buying
some more (which is quite expensive) or just leave away some of the
audiofiles.

i'll keep you informed...

ciao

I bought the new cd at the Celtic Fiddle Fest show in Chicago this past
weekend. If you are into this kind of music, then you do not want to
miss this tour. Kevin Burke, Johnny Cunningham and Christian Lemaitre
each do sets and then do a set together. Great show.

Hey everyone,

Sorry to use this list for a non-Sinead purpose... This summer my sister
(22Y.O.) plans to spend some time living and working in London. She is
photographer.

Do any of you Londoners have any suggestions for living arrangements?
She's looking for something inexpensive -- anyone have a room open for
about 6 - 8 weeks?

Please let me know at livvy@frontiernet.net

THANKS!

Deborah

Two things, first of all, it was thought that the picture of Dolores
screaming (actually singing according to Sinead) would be too much for us
puritan north americans...so they changed it.

Second of all, you can get the screaming Sinead L&C at HMV for import
prices in Toronto.

When I got TLATC imported before she became anything to anyone, I came the
"American" variety. Mostly white and blue, with her head shaved, hands on
her neck, looking downward. I love the picture. With the music, I
personally can relate to her look of saddness and thought. I don't think I
would want her screaming, but then again, I haven't seen that one....
Why would they auto import an "American" version? I think there are just
many covers. She has done this with other albums. My special child and
Universal mother.

Peace,
Holli

Well, I've seen an interview w/ her once where she says that the
American version had to be changed (the cover) cos for the American leg
of the company the original cover would be too agressive, the public
wouldn't like it....
I guess there are only two covers: the regular one (singing) and the
American one...

I haven't noticed that anyone has mentioned this but I
recently discovered a snippet of the video for "This is a
Rebel Song" on the Sony music Sinead O'Connor page.

Its at: www.sonymusic.com

Too bad its not the whole thing!

Most (or a lot) of today's big female folk/confessional singers have paid
tribute to Joni Mitchell in some way:

Alanis Morrisette (uck!) mentions her in a song
Indigo Girls: River
Tori Amos: A Case of You
Phoebe Snow: A Case of You
Sarah McLachlan: Blue
Annie Lennox: Ladies of the Canyon
Natalie Merchant: All I Want

Sinead O'Connor is the only girl I dig (not that I dig all of the
above...I HATE the Indigo Girls!) who hasn't paid public tribute to Joni.
If anyone examined the Women in Rock special in Rolling Stone last Fall,
they will notice Joni's name popping up in interviews with even people
like Madonna, and note that Janet Jackson based her hit "Got Till It's
Gone" on samples of Joni's "Big Yellow Taxi." Hell, I hear the Women of
Lilith sang "Big Yellow Taxi" together as a sort of finale at at least one
of their concerts. Anyway, Sinead never mentions Joni.

However, it's interesting to note they way they seem chummy, standing
together at The Wall concert in Berlin. Also, anyone who's seen Sinead
get her "Artist of the Year," or whatever it was, at the MTV Awards know
Joni introduced her, ending cornily with "Nothing compares to you,
Sinead!" The women embrace when Sinead reaches the stage.

Finally, in evidence of Joni's respect for Sinead, when Joni wrote "The
Magdaline Laundries" for her Grammy winning Turbulent Indigo album, she
personally called Sinead and told her this song would be good for her. I
don't know Sinead's response, but she's never recorded the song. That's
why I'm hoping Sinead may contribute to the forthcoming Joni Mitchell
tribute album, and that she will sing that song. Has anyone ever heard
anything about this?

Basically, I'm interested in knowing if anyone has ever heard Sinead say
anything about Joni or her music.

I think "The Magdaline Laundries" is awesome material for Sinead, as did
Joni, because of the subject matter. The song's about a "Lady of Charity"
home for wayward women, and it's a very biting look at the misguidedness
of so-called religious servants.

I was an unmarried girl
I'd just turned 27
When they brought me to the sisters
For the way men looked at me
Branded as a Jezebel
I knew I was not bound for heaven
And I was cast in shame
Into the Magdaline Laundries

Most girls come here pregnant
Some by there own fathers
Bridget got that belly by her parish priest
They're trying to get things white as snow
For all us woe-begotten daughters
In the steaming stains of the Magdaline Laundries

Prostitutes and destitutes
And temptresses like me
Fallen women sentenced into dreamless drudgery
Why do they call this heartless place Our Lady of Charity?
Oh, charity!

These bloodless "brides of Jesus"
If they just once glimpsed their groom
Then they'd know
And drop the stones concealed behind their rosaries
They wilt the grass they walk upon
They leach the light out of a room
They'd like to drive us down the drain
At the Magdaline Launderies

Peg O'Connell died today
She was a cheeky girl, a flirt
They just stuffed her in a hole
Surely to God you'd think at least some bells should ring!
Some day I'm gonna die here too
And they'll just plant me in the dirt
Like some lame bulb that never blooms
Not any spring
No, not any spring

You can see why this is obviously PERFECT material for Sinead! If anyone
has any comments, or has heard anything connecting Sinead to this song,
I'd love to hear. Does anyone know this song, other than me?

Kevin

In a few articles, Sinead has been quoting complaining that people
compare her to Joni Mitchell, even though their styles are very different.
A lot of female singers get compared to Joni Mitchell, simply because
they're women, I think. It's not an unflattering comparison, but it's a
bit unfair.

And if it is not Catholic or Boedism, could someone explain me
a little bit her new religion ?
In "Petit Poulet" she sings : "There isn't any answer in religion"
                                                "Don't believe one who says
there is"
What does she mean with that ?

Thank you

This is something I don't understand. Who is judging the American people
and what we can "stand"? Just who is this mystery judge and jury? I want
to decide what I can handle and what I can't.
Is it not in our constitution anymore?

Whether she is screaming or bowing her head, this doesn't matter. It's her
music right....?

I think it's the ignorance of people (whoever they may be) that are judging
what we can handle. I've seen many mag. from England that take me aback
with the nudity. We do not do that here. So who is to say who is right
from wrong? I think I am old enough and wise enough to look at two
different album covers and decide which one I like best.

Is this disturbing to anyone else? God, let it go already.... Just like
SNL....

Tired of people trying to decide what's right for us.
Just want to play the music really loud because I love it!

Peace to all!
Holli

off and on other woman artists are mentioned in the river. I am not a
big fan of many other female musicians, as far as buying their disks. I
get into different singles, etc. but sinead is my main woman(ha,ha).
EXCEPT ani difranco. Ihaven't seen her mentioned on the list. I don't
know how many people know her. she is a "folk" (loosely) gal from new
york city (orig. buffalo). I own all of her albums which is at the rate
of one a year since 1990. she started her own label (rightous babe
records) and is just incredible. For you sinead fans of TLATC and
IDNWWIHG i think you would really like ani's albums "not a pretty girl"
and "dilate". two of my favs. also recamended(sp-brain block) are "out
of range" and "imperfectly". so if anyone is curious I think some of
you out there would really dig her.

Holli,

I thinkyou anwered your own question when you stated "I've seen many mags
from England..." That's what American marketers are talking about -- they
probably didn't want record-buyers...who were unsure of buying it...to be
taken "aback" by the cover and decide to buy something a bit more gentle.
Not that I'm saying those marketers are right for doing that. I mean
Americans obviously can handle all the Porn-like covers on rap records.
(not all rap records -- don't everyone get all mad at me).

Anyway, just thought I give my 2 cents.

Hi all,

Well, I hate to be bitter, but I think that in the Western hemisphere, the
U.S. is still one of the most sexist, patriarchal nations. The record
companies are predominantly run by white males who seem to enjoy
exercising their moral agendas on all who cross their path. Perhaps they
think that a young bald girl (or thought 10 years ago, I should say)
screaming in a not so cute, "feminine", passive manner would turn some
people off to the music. I'd like to think that if the same cover was
presented to an American company in 1998, it would be printed without
prejudice.

hi kids---
i have responded to individuals but not posted for a long time. i just wanted
to mention how on my "quiet" lion & cobra cd i love sinead's hand, on which is
written: "PURSE A-Z". sometimes record companies repackage albums to create a
more "collectible" quality to the releases. try not to take it too personally,
chums.

i watched "whuthering heights" recently when i had the flu. the person who
first posted that sinead was in it, gave me a feeling she was featured very
little. i was surprised that i saw as much of her as i did. the camera follows
her, lingers a lot on her face (weird wig and hooded cloak). her voice speaks
over the action at times and narrates a whole section at the beginning &
ending. i'm beginning to find ralph fiennes tedious, so i can't say much else
for the movie.

i'm really looking forward to "the butcher boy". i plan to check that out as
soon as it is released. i have plans to tape the "shamrock & roll" show &
"gaelic force" this month. next month i will endeavour to catch the elusive
"sessions on w 54th" pbs thing. i am accumulating my own lil collection of
stuff, slowly but surely. there is a celtic festival in SF this weekend. i am
recommending SATURDAY's show especially a band called KILA, from sinead's
hometown of dublin.

sorry to be so long fonted. buhbye!

I just wanted to say that although I've only heard 2 songs by Ani Difranco
("Fuel" & "Fake Plastic Castle") other than reading some of her interviews, I
think she's someone to take into serious consideration when speaking of high
caliber female artists. She definitely is; in the truest, most uncompromising
sense of the word. I can't wait to hear more of her just as soon as I can
afford to buy a bunch of her CD's!:)
                -Erin

P.S. jitr/Ani fans are encouraged to make me a tape! HA:) (JK!!)

I know that this is off-topic, and I am ridiculous, but I wanted to say
that I also love Ani DiFranco. On Monday night, I camped out in 10 degree
weather for 14 hours to get tickets to her Ithaca concert. I think barely
anyone gets played in my CD player besides her and Sinead, though they're
really not that similar except for their fierce messages and their
independence.
I definitely recommend her.

    Hello,
I just wanted to say that on my version
of Sinead's " The Lion and the Cobra,"
a Purer A to Z is written on her hand. I
don't know if the person was being
sarcastic by saying Purse A to Z or perhaps simply misread the hard to
read writing on Sinead's hand. BTW,
this group is simply great and I am very
fortunate to be a part of it. Thanks.

Hi,

A couple people sent me messages regarding Sinéad's version of Silent
Night. Unfortunately, Hotmail decided to delete ALL messages on my
account (other Hotmail users beware), so I don't even know if I missed
any messages. If anyone has written anything to me, please re-send the
message (if possible). Thanks.. Just anxiously awaiting Butcher Boy in
the U.S. and Lilith Tour '98.

Oh, by the way, there's one more female singer to add to the Joni
Mitchell list. This summer when I met Harriet Wheeler, the lead singer
of The Sundays, she said something about one of Joni's albums being "our
near favorite album"--or something like that. I think she said it was
in their cd-player on the tour bus right then. Anyway, she loves Joni,
if I recall correctly.

Ben.

NP: Madonna, Ray of Light... her new album.. strangely enough, it
reminds me of Radiohead's OK Computer--it's very good

Hi Marcus,

The single you are referring to has two tracks like you said,
You make me feel so free sung by Sinead and queen of the slipstream sung by
Brian Kennedy.

The sleeve of the single has the same picture as the no prima donna cd,
there are no lyrics and no pic. from Sinead. Sinead only appears in the
first track.

If you already have the cd no prima donna and you only want the Sinead
songs, then this cd-single is nothing special. If you want however all
formats from all Sinead stuff then this is a hard to find rare promo.

Eduard

I have to say this fits me too! I have been a die-hard Sinead since 1990, and
although Sinead & Ani are two completely different styles of music, I think
most Sinead fans would love Ani as well. If you haven't heard her, I highly
recommend checking her out!

I was just wondering if any one ever answered the religion question. I
have been wondering the same question for quite some time now. Isn't
the star that appears on all of Sinead's albums the star of David?

And as for Ani Diffranco...I saw her show last year with Bob Dilan and I
have to say that she is an amazing performer. Like the rest of you, she
is my other favorite!

Thanks

...so does everyone here like to talk about religion?
I know this is the most egregrious sort of spam, but I have a new project--a really lovely new interfaith discussion forum! What would make it EXTREMELY lovely is a lot more posts by a lot more people. And Sinead IS a spiritual artist, and there are lots of different religions here. So if you'd like to see the forum, go to:
http://disc.server.com/Indices/12855.html
About Sinead's religion: I used to think she was Pagan, but that was when I was in the process of converting. I guess she's just a good ol' fashioned syncreticist!
About other women: I like Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott, Hurricane G, Rage, the Sundays, Loreena McKennitt, Chantal Kreviasuk, Fiona Apple, and Hole.
About "pornographic" hip-hop album covers: You wouldn't be talking about Lil' Kim's album, would you? I love her to death, but I called that the "Victoria's Secret album" in my review. One of the cool things about Sinead is that she's sexual, but doesn't take every opportunity to get nekkid (at least not in public!)
In perfect love and graveyard dust!

According to Addicted to Noise a live version of "He Moved
Through the Fair" is included on Celtic Heartbeat
Collection2. Possibly the same as on Gospel Oak?

i read in an irish newspaper yesterday that the fleadh festival is in san
jose. it's at a big stadium...i don't really love huge venues. i'm glad sinead
is going to be playing on the west coast though. i'll probably end up going
regardless.

Hi everyone! I ordered the Rebel Song singles from CD Now and received them
yesterday (imported from the UK). They are incredible, just as I had read.
The live versions of Fire on Babylon, Redemption Song, Last Day of our
Acquaintance & Thank You for Hearing Me are sooooooo great! I like the remix
of Rebel Song as well. Some of the live songs were recorded at Chastain Park
in Atlanta. I thought that was cool since my sister lives there. If the
Lilith Fair tour stops there this year, I will certainly not miss her this
time. Atlanta is only about 300 miles north of Jacksonville (where I live).
To my knowledge she has never been to Florida, but I could be wrong. Also, I
would like to respond to Kevin's comments regarding Joni Mitchell. I think
The Magdaline Laundries would be a great song for Sinead! Those lyrics are
really powerful. Sounds like a great song. I haven't heard anything about
the tribute album. Anyway, if anyone gets a chance to purchase the Rebel Song
singles, go for it! It's well worth the money.

Peace.

Hi,

Although this has nothing to do with Sinead this time i hope somebody will
help me out.
I sometimes watch in Holland on TV the Jerry Springer show.
Now I've heard that there is a video tape called To Hot For TV with some
unsecured highlights from his show on it.
Above that, there is also a cd out from Jerry.
Is there somebody out there who is able and willing to buy both video and
cd for me.
Of course i pay for it (or send you some Sinead in return).
Please e-mail me privately about this..

Thanks....Eduard

Hi
since there have been few conversations on Joni Mitchel, I was wondering
if anyone can make recommendation of her album "Chalkmark in the storm"
I intended to buy it but i would like to know others' opinion.

also, it was said that Alannis Morrisette mentioned Joni in her song.
Can anyone give info, which song of hers is that?

sorry cause this has nothing to do with Sinead

Hi all,
it's been a while since I posted any message.

I read Stephen Covey's book: "Seven Habits of highly effective
people..", of which I agree a lot.
One habit mentioned is 'proactive' which in short is to take the
responsbility, not to blame things outside us for what happens.

Recently that thing came across my mind when I listened to Sinead's
songs.
It seems that in many songs, she's blaming everything/everyone but
herself, such as
   - her pregnancy in "emperor's new clothes"
-"you" (her mother ?) in "you cause as much sorrow"
-margaret thatcher in "black boys on mopeds"
and she seems to defend her self with
-"i'm full of good intentions" in "you cause..
-"all the mistake you THOUGHT i've done" (sorry i forget the exact
lyrics) in "this is a rebel song"

Not to say that she's completely wrong , she's got some points there
(like blaming USA government in famine, margaret thatcher, etc). But I
do believe that our life is our responsibility. Whether you're happy or
not really depends on how you take things. In a sense, I think Sinead
doesn't think that way.

Well, just wanna share my opinion, Any comment ?

best regards,
andreas sylverius

There has been a huge cultural analysis done about the 1990's being tha Age of
the Victim. I call it the "Deny/Shift the Blame Syndrome." "I didn't do it,
she did." There are many wonderful books out on the shift in mentality, but
you hardly need to read a cultural analysis to see it...just look. It started
about the time of the Menendaz Brothers trial ("We had to kill our parents.
They were abusing us.") Followed quickly by Lorena Bobbit ("I had to cut off
his pee-pee, he was raping me.") Now of course, by the time these two trials
hit the headlines, the country was already in the proper mindset to buy them.

You can see this mindset EVERYWHERE, at least everywhere in America:
It's not my fault, I had a bad childhood.
I didn't mean to strangle my coach, but he shouldn't have talked to me like
that.
I killed 32 people because I was abused as a child.
I only killed my wife (and her best friend) because I'm sure she was cheating
on me (with a gay man???)

Sinead is just another victim who is stepping forward in her own way. People
are ready to accept the victim mentality. I haven't really seen it go away,
it's only weakened a very little bit. And i can find many many more victim
references than the ones you mentioned, because Sinead=Victim as far as I'm
concerned:

And if YOU said jump in the river, I would
The thing that YOU destroyed is the thing you liked me for
SHE took my father from my life

Even her choice of cover songs are steeped in victimhood:

Damn YOUR Eyes
Why don't YOU do Right
SUCCESS made a failure of our home

Even the single Don't Cry for Me Argentina. I have said this before, but it
bears repeating for this post. Listen to the quality of her voice in this
song. She WANTS you to cry for her. Sinead brings out all the hardships
Evita has gone through and ignores her strength. Don't get me wrong, I like
Sinead's interpretation and I am not a huge fan of a the bloody Peron's BUT
the song has a strength in it (in the character of Evita) that Sinead just
tosses out the window.

As to WHY or HOW the country slipped into this...that's where you would have
to refer to a good analysis.

My $.02
