I wonder if any of you heard (and liked) the Song "Mraya", which is sang
by Abdel Ali Slimani with Sinead O'Connor. I just bought yesterday a great
compilation which is called "Spirits of the World" (unlucky, this
Compilation was made in Israel, so I doubt if anyone of you ever heard of
it).

The Disc contains different performances from all around the world, and
one of the tracks contains "Mraya". It is a great song, IMHO, and it
combines Arabic and Irish music. It is quite funny to hear Sinead sings in
Arabic, but it is really a great experience to listen to this 7 minutes
masterpiece.

Bye,

Yoav.

Yoav (and others) this song can also be found on Abdel's solo album
entitled (also) "Mraya", which was released through Peter Gabriels Real
World Label.
If you like Rai-Music (Cheb Khaled) this album is a must !
And ofcourse you should buy it because of Sinead :-))

BTW; Yoav; can you send me the details of this Israel-album !

Cha Cha.

Hey there folks. I've got the following Sinead O'Connor-related
compilations which I'd like to trade or sell:

     1.) CAPTIVE SOUNDTRACK ... $5
           - feat. "Heroine" w/ The Edge & Michael Brook
           - there's a skip on this disc, but not on the Sinead track
     2.) IN YOUR EAR #3 ... $3
           - CBS Records sampler feat. "Kingdom Of Rain" w/ The The
     3.) PEACE TOGETHER ... $8
           - feat. "Be Still", "Be Still (robin guthrie remix)", and
"Religious Persuasion" w/ Billy Bragg & Andy White
     4.) RED HOT + BLUE ... $6
           - feat "You Do Something To Me"
     5.) STAY AWAKE ... $10
           - feat "Someday My Prince Will Come"
6.) THE WALL LIVE IN BERLIN ... $3
           - feat "Mother (live)" w/ The Band
           - this is only Disc 2 of the 2-cd set (no sleeve)...
that way you don't have to go out and buy the whole thing
     7.) ART OF COMPILATION 6 ... bid
           - this is an extremely rare dj-club only disc which
features an *exclusive* remix of "Nothing Compares 2 U"
           - I will be taking bids on this, starting at $20 (otherwise,
any two discs from my wantlist would make a fine swap)

If you're interested, please e-mail me for my wantlist. Any item from
my wantlist will secure a trade for any of the above (unless otherwise
noted). All prices listed above are in US currency and include postage

Don't panic everyone. I received the information from the Barbican
about the event, and Donnal Lunny is performing on Friday, and he will
introduce Sinead on Saturday and she will do her own set. There is a
full page about her stating that this is a rare opportunity to see an
artist still achieving new artistic heights and so forth. So, I think
those who are going can rest assured that Sinead will be on stage, by
     herself, performing her own material.

This is exactly what the brochure says about the concert on Saturday:

     SATURDAY 12 APRIL 7.30PM
     Donal Lunny
     Sinead O'Connor
and very special guests to be announced

Tonight's concert promises to deliver just about the best line up of
Irish artists you'll ever come across, headed up by Donal Lunny, who
as a renegade Irish genius, also proved the perfect Musical Director
for the concert. Tonight Donal will introduce, and play alongside,
some of Ireland's greatest musicians, as well as other musicians who
share a spiritual connection with the Irish tradition.

One of those joining Donal will be Sinead O'Connor, a singer who
worked with him on the Common Ground album, and who has occupied a
unique place in the music workd since the release of her debut album
The Lion and the Cobra in 1987. Whether singing her own songs or
exploring traditional Irish music, the powerful, emotional content of
her lyrics combinded with the astonishing reach of her extraordinary
voice always makes for a unique performance at once captivating and
affecting. Her appaearance at From The Heart (the name of the event)
is a rare chance to experience a true artist stll attaining new peaks.

And there is a picture of Sinead and a picture of Donal.

I'm sorry to be the one to reinforce the BAD NEWS - Sinead is NOT
performing solo - she is guesting with Donnal - no-one can confirm how
long she will be on stage for but the letter that I received over the
weekend was sent out AFTER the festival brochure. In fact the
brochure and the adverts in the press misrepresented the gig. I hope
she WILL stay on stage and perform her own material...maybe she will.
We won't know for sure until Saturday...

     Mandy

I'm sorry to be the one to reinforce the BAD NEWS - Sinead is NOT
performing solo - she is guesting with Donnal - no-one can confirm how
long she will be on stage for but the letter that I received over the
weekend was sent out AFTER the festival brochure. In fact the
brochure and the adverts in the press misrepresented the gig. I hope
she WILL stay on stage and perform her own material...maybe she will.
We won't know for sure until Saturday...

     Mandy

Don't panic everyone. I received the information from the Barbican
about the event, and Donnal Lunny is performing on Friday, and he will
introduce Sinead on Saturday and she will do her own set. There is a
full page about her stating that this is a rare opportunity to see an
artist still achieving new artistic heights and so forth. So, I think
those who are going can rest assured that Sinead will be on stage, by
     herself, performing her own material.

Hello,

I almost don't dare to tell but I received a mail from someone telling me
this;

About the "concert" april 12th !!!
===========================
I got a letter from the Barbican over the weekend about Sinead's appearance
- it stated that the adverts in the press had misrepresented the gig - that
it was a Donnal Lunny concert and that Sinead is appearing as a guest of
his ONLY - ie NOT headlining !!

Hello,

I just got an E-mail from EMI with some interesting info about the
delayment (new release date; june 3th) and song addition ("This Is A Rebel
Song") on her new "gospel oak ep".

They also handed about 20 new concert dates. Looking at the list Sinead
seems to do 3 different kinds of tours. One as being one of the gigs on
festivals, one as a solo act, and one tour together with the Pretenders.
(tip; besides my homepage keep checking the pretenders homepage for shared
news; http://www.pretenders.org)

The concert list doesn't look hopefull for european fans......
from june 1st till june 18th she'll be touring in the USA
from august 8th till sept. 1st she's touring the USA again

Only european dates are august 2nd (france) and 3rd (belgium)

Hopefully the entire month July will be spend in europe..... but no info is
given about that.

I'm going to the Irish festival June 14 at Randalls Island Park and would
love to meet up with other fellow Sineadians before/after. Anyone
interested, please e-mail me.

I'm also interested in getting my hands on a copy of Sinead's video for Troy,
since I've never had the pleasure of seeing it. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. (I"ve also never seen her video for Don't Cry for Me
Argentina--is that available as well?)

Thanks a lot,

jeffery

     Hi everyone

Well, let me just say that Saturday 12th April 1997 has to rate as my
best birthday ever...for the simple reason than the truly awesome Ms
O'Connor was performing on that very night in all her glory at the
Barbican Hall on London's South Bank!! I had an excellent seat - 4th
row from the stage - and could hardly sit still...

I wasn't sure what to expect - Donal Lunny came on to the stage and he
and his band opened with three Irish reels which set the tone of the
night - then on came Naimee Coleman to sing 2 numbers. (I worried that
Sinead would only perform 2 songs...but was reassured by a woman
sitting to my right who works for Sinead - she said that she'd be on
in the second half and that she was definitely going to be on stage
for quite a while). Next up was Sharon Shannon, then Mary Black who
sung 2 traditional Irish songs. Donal and his band then performed
another three or four reels. After the interval on came Brian Kennedy
     - he sang about 5 songs and duetted on Paul Brady's "I Will Be There"
with Mary from her album "Shine"...then it was finally time to see
Sinead - she'd been standing at the side of the stage watching the
show...at this point I would like to reassure everyone who couldn't
make it to London that the entire show was filmed (I have no idea if
or when it will be aired...) Anyway, back to Sinead...up she stepped
onto the stage to the most welcoming, warming, heartfelt cheers I've
ever witnessed - it had been a long time coming. Appearances
first...she still has that short cropped Winona Ryder hairstyle (ie no
dreadlocks!!), she is as tiny as ever (!), had the biggest, cutest
grin on her face the whole time :-), and wore a long, pink silk dress
with mandarin collar and large chunky sandals...she opened her set
with 3 songs from the forthcoming Gospel Oak :- "This Is To Mother
You", "I Am Enough", and "4 My Love" - she then went on to some
traditional Irish music saying, "I know, I know, it's supposed to be
Oirish!!" So, in order to please, she went on to sing the truly
amazing "He Moved Through The Fair" (this, btw, is only available on
the soundtrack to "Michael Collins", as far as I know...), you could
feel the effect that the power and range of her voice had on everyone
in the audience - the atmosphere was electric!! I'm afraid I don't
know the title of the next traditional number that she performed
(anyone else know ??) - it was the story of an Irish factory worker
struggling to make ends meet...Sinead then left the stage :-( but
reappeared again to sing "On Raglan Road" with Mary Black, Brian
Kennedy and Naimee - Sinead opened the song and forgot the words to
the first line - this was endearing in the extreme as she cracked the
hugest grin and carried on...and ended her set with another new song -
she announced this by saying that "a while ago U2 had written the song
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" proclaiming that it was NOT a rebel song -
well, I wrote this song especially for tonight - and it IS a rebel
     song"...again, I don't know the title - if I was to make a stab, I'd
say it might be called "My Hard Englishman" - from what I heard I
guess you could liken it to "Black Boys On Mopeds Part 2" - for want
     of a better reference...

Phew - it was soooo good seeing her again - and to see her enjoying
herself so much after all the crap she'd had to endure in recent years
     - she looked happy - and so did I.

Just waiting for the EP now...and hoping Sinead plans to headline
again in London this Summer - I'll keep you informed.

     Bye
     Mandy

     Hi

I forgot to mention Sinead's irey-land anecdote...in between songs she
told the story of a Jamaican friend who thought that Sinead was from a
place called "Ireyland" and how she was amused by that thought - and
that in her opinion maybe Ireland should be renamed Ireyland because
     of the irey-people...

     that's all :-)

hello,

As you know the USA release of The Gospel Oak will include a bonus track
entitled "This Is A Rebel Song". I thought the Japanese release will also
include this bonus track. But EMI told me that the Japanese will include
another bonus track, so the collectors need to buy both of them !

Live update; One of the european venues will probably be in Prague
And in the first week of June she probaby will do 2 warm-up shows in Ireland.
Dates and venues are yet unknown......

Added to the tour-schedule is a review of the April 12th concert. If anyone
will visit one (or more) of the other shows and is willing to write a
review (even a set-list will do) that would be great.

If someone has a recording of (one or more of) these shows, I'd like to get
a copy. I can trade and/or pay a lot (between $5-$100 :-) depending on the
show and the quality of the recording.

Hello,

i thought it would be a good idea to start a page with rare sinead songs
for everybody to listen to - and so i did it. i just added some of them
yet.

all songs are in real-audio format and you'll need a RealPlayer to hear
them. everything is expained on the page...

i'd really appreciate all comments!

as a little bonus i've added a live version of "haunted" with shane and
sinead for you!

ok, here's the url:

                http://www.dowcomputer.com/sinaudio.htm

i hope you like it.

Marcel, (and others) I just want to understand one thing: beyond all these
tour dates in the summer , which is great by itself, is Sinead going to
release a new FULL-length album or not? I mean, we've been waiting for
three years now, don't we deserve a new album or what? (of course we do..)

hm, always the same for a long long time. at one concert in 1995 she
annouced an album in the first half of 1996. then it was beginning of 1997
now it's autumn...

of course the EP release date was set to april so we can expect it before
christmas...? ;-)

For those of you that live in the southern New England area, Sinead will =
be preforming at The Strand in Providence RI on June 17. Tickets are =
$17 in advance. That's all I know about it but hope to see you there.

PS. For those of you who don't know, Sinead also appears on Rick =
Wright's new solo album 'Broken China' (Pink Floyd keyboardist). Her =
vocals on two songs as well as some excellent instrumentals are the best =
points of the album.

I will agree with you there, that Sinead's vocals are the highlight of the
album. I didn't like it too much, although fans of the Pink Floyd sound
probably will. As for Sinead, while I enjoyed hearing something new from her,
she seemed very restrained. Her voice lacked the power of any of her albums.
I hope she lets that voice break through in future works. -- Mark

Does anyone know (hopefully on-line) where I can get the "Fire on Babylon"
single? I'm really interested in the three covers I heard are on it. Thanks a
lot.

Thanks a lot for this. I think before too many years go by, EMI or whoever
should collect up as many of her quality releases that have popped up in
various obscure places and simply put them together in a one or two disc
collection made available to anyone. I'm afraid this could be a very long
way out, however.

I was a little surprised myself, not having heard of any new release, but
2/5's of a new album is better than none. EP's are usually used as a
stopgap between releases, so I wouldn't imagine that an LP is too near.
But who knows, maybe she'll be inspired on the road.

Does anyone know what type of a set Sinead might be apt to play in some of
these small venues (pre-Pretenders) she's going to be doing in a few
months? At least a few of these places are quite small, which should be
quite nice, but does this sort of concert typically last an hour? Two?
 Band? Solo?

When I was in London to see Sinead, I read in Q magazine
that she has been in a certain studio recording. It said
that the Gospel Oak EP was the first installment of full
length LP jam sessions. The concert, by the way, was
          wonderful.

I have good news: I'm sure each of you thought at least once in his
life: what a pity that this great album, The Lion and The Cobra,
doesn't have a lyrics booklet!

Well, I created an home-made lyrics booklet (using the lyrics in the
Marcel's archive, thanks Marcel!) and put it in my homepage! You can
print it well on the two sides of the paper and (after cutting and
glueing the booklet together) it will fit exactly into your cd cover!!
You should have a word 7.0 (or 6.0, at least) though.

Check my SIneadian Hompage at:
http://members.tripod.com/~yoav/sinead.html

Have fun!
Any comments are welcomed!

Bye,
Yoav

Greetings all Ye Lovers of Things-Sinead,
Granted, the news about the new EP is akin to the return of the Messiah
(well, a MINI-Messiah, seeing as it's only an EP) but I have one
important question:
Does the new June 3rd release date apply to the United States or only
to European release? Also, are these rumors about an autumn album
release true, or mere apocryphal legend? I need something new and
EXTENSIVE by Sinead. If my spiritual-musical life was compared to a
gas-tank, I could well say that I've been running on Universal Mother
"fumes" for too long! Thanks to the Mars-L homepage for providing links
to lyrics on the Gospel Oak EP. I suppose it's a good sign that that
merely reading the WORDS of "This Is to Mother You" made me cry.
Let's hope the EP is a triumph...... SINEAD...our REDEMPTRESS!
P.S. What gives about the cancellation of the Pretenders tour? Who's to
blame for this travesty?

Perhaps it is the Pretenders who are cancelling. Maybe
Sinead will still tour on her own, but in different venues.
She is still performing by herself on the East coast, isn't
          she?

Well, since I won't be able to see Sinead with the Pretenders this
summer, does anyone have any more infromation on the possible two
warm-up shows Sinead will be doing in Ireland on June 6th, 7th, and 8th?
I'll be in Europe between May and July, and would love to see her. Any
info would be most helpful.

Danke,
Ami

Hey all,

I just wanted to express my disappointment about the tour being
cancelled. Just yesterday after I finally got my netscape up to speed, I
checked out Marcel's page to see the dates and I was thrilled to see her
playing in Toronto!! Ah well, another time...

As for hte Gospel Oak, I heard on the radio here the other day about its
release date being June 3rd and usually the released sates are common
between the US and Canada when it comes to releases from Europe...

Hope this helps,

Suzy

     Hi

On my way home from work last night I caught sight of a poster bearing
Sinead's face, advertising the imminent release of The Gospel Oak
EP...unfortunately I had to run for my train, so I didn't have time to
check out the wording on the poster. I'll take a closer look tonight
and send out another mail when I've had a closer look. This basically
means that the UK/European release is still planned for end April -
with the US-only release having been delayed....

BTW - it's an extremely cute picture ;)
     Mandy

Today i got an interview (thanks to Kay Chai) from a very recent interview
with sinead done by Lucy O'Brien.
Apperantly this interview is also put on cd. If somebody knows more about
it, or has that cd, i would be very intrested in receiving a copy
(buying/trading etc.)
Anyway, the interview is dated 10 april 1997 and contains 16 pages.

I will put some intresting parts on jitr if people are intrested in it.

Q: I JUST WANT TO ASK ABOUT THE EP. WHY IS IT CALLED 'GOSPEL OAK'?

I guess it's called gospel oak becouse the songs are hymns, really, hymns/
lullabies wich i dedicated to the idea of God wich existed before
'religion', in inverted commas, came along. It was basically the idea of
God being a feminine principal, God the mother, wich was symbolised by the
oak becouse it's such an ancient, ancient, tradition. Also the worship of
God the mother used to take place in what they would call sacred oak groves
- so that's basically why.

SO TELL ME ABOUT THE FIRST SONG, THIS IS TO MOTHER YOU. I WAS INTRIGUED BY
THE LINE ' I WILL DO WHAT YOUR OWN MOTHER DIDN'T DO, WICH IS TO MOTHER
YOU'. WERE YOU SINGING TO YOURSELF?

Yeahh, i guess. i mean all the songs are written to myself in the first
place. I'd say definitely every song i've ever written has been to myself,
so I guess the simplest answer is 'yes'.

IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS, THREE YEARS SINCE 'UNIVERSAL MOTHER'...

Two years yeahh, not quite two years. A year and nine months probably.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE?

Well I was pregnant for nine months and then i had a baby who was one year
old yesterday, so i was pregnant and feeding my baby.

WHAT'S HER NAME?

Roisin, well her name is Bridgeteen Roisin Waters, but we call her Roisin.
The Bridgeteen is more of a title, again its a pagan thing. Bridgeteen is
named after our Goddess in Ireland who's called Bridget. So she's
Bridgeteen Roisin Waters...becouse I said a prayer basically to have a
little girl and if I did i'd call het that.

ARE YOU BRINGING UP BOTH TWO ON YOUR OWN AT THE MOMENT?

Both their fathers are extremely involved in their lives, I would not want
to mislead anybody and it would not be fair to them either, but yeah, I
live with the children and i basically bring them up. But my son's fater
(Reynolds) lives only down the road from us and is in and out all the time
and my daughters father is in Dublin but he comes over every ten days or
so, they're both very involved and we're all great friends

THE NEW ALBUM THAT YOU ARE WORKING OIN NOW; WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR THAT?

Well the truth is that i'm not really working on a new album now, this EP I
see as an mini album. I've got two children so i don't know when I'm going
to put another album out because i want to put my children first and by
the time I write enough songs for an album it could be two years from now
really, in reality. I could have waited and not put this EP stuff out and
wait untill i have an album but that would have been then next year or so.
I'm putting this out really so that I can work in the summer wich is the
only time I can work becouse I've got children. So it's a raelly situiation
of creating so that I can work in the summer, but honest I couldn't tell
you when i'm going to have an album out.

So far for this part 1.

Hi all,

I just rejoined the list after an absence of several months, due to lack
of e-mail access. Just wanted to say hi and was wondering if someone
could bring me up to speed as to what Sineads been up to lately.

I know she's doing some shows (at least in the New England area)
and heard something about an EP release. So, if someone could
let me know the details I'd much appreciate it.

Here is some more from the Sinead interview done by Lucy O' Brien in april
this year.

LOOKING BACK OVER YOUR ALBUMS IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU'VE RECORDED THAT
YOU DON'T LIKE OR YOU FEEL A BIT EMBARRASSED BY?

Yeah, loads, especially on my first album becouse some of the songs I wrote
when I was 15. Drink before the war - I think is especially embarrassing.
Some people really like it for some reason but I hate it basically.

WHY?

Because it's like when you read your diary, when you're 15 you think you
are being really deep and meaningful and actually you're just talking a lot
of bulloks. It's just embarrassing.

ABOUT DONT CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA. SHOULD YOU HAVE BEEN IN THE FILM?

Oh, not at all. I'm not an actor. I mean i've done some litttle bits of
acting and I still do tiny bits but I would never want to cary the whole
movie. I would hate to be in that business, it's an horible job. I love
that song but I haven't heard any of the other songs in it. No not at all I
have the disre to be a movie star. No.

HAVE YOU SEEN 'EVITA'?.

No, but that song i just always loved anyway and in fact that song is
really how I started to make my living. I used to go round Dublin singing
that song and would make money out of talent competitions. If you sang that
song you couldn't lose because all the women loved it, there'd be all the
ladies in this thing. I owe my living to it, really.,

WHAT OTHER SONGS WENT DOWN REALLY WELL?

Really that one. That was my part piece at home and anywere I went that was
really the one. There was one other, in Ireland they really like the soppy
awful songs like Anie song. Things like that. American pie and blowing in
the wind and that kind of shit. Embarrasing stuff.

WHO ARE YOU LISTENING TO NOW; ANY PARTICULAIR ARTISTS YOU LIKE?

Well again, my personal kind of thing is that floats my boat is roots,
that's all I like, I like Bob Marley obviously especially and I like a guy
called Little Roy and there's another guy called Sizzler whose got a great
song out at the moment called 'Look who's lauging' and camelot and Buju
Banton I like a lot

ANYONE ELSE YOU'VE BEEEN LISTENING TO?

I don't really kisten to a lot of new music other than roots stuff if it
comes out so I'm in to all the things that I've always ever been into Ella
Fitzgerald I'm into Noreen Irene, I'm into Courtney love and Van Morrison
I'm into obviously.

======

Well, this far for today.

Eduard

     Hi everyone

Well, I got a closer look at the promo poster this morning - the
lettering is the same gold italic as used on Universal Mother so it
was hard to read from a distance...anyway, the EP is released on
5.5.97 in the UK. The cover is a colour picture of Gospel Oak's
railway bridge (Gospel Oak is also the name of a British Rail station
in North London - for all you information-junkies out there!!).

Hi all.

Today i went to my local record store and he had quit a surprise for me.
The 1 track promo cd single from the gospel oak ep. It was a bit expensive
(30 dutch guilders, wich is about 17 dollars) but....i have him.

The sleeve is a picture of a railway bridge in London with the name Gospel
oak on it. Above is writen in coloured letters Sinead o'connor in the well
known handwriting.

On the back is a sticker wich said:
This is to mother you is the lead track from Sinead o'connor's forthcoming
Gospel oak ep due for release on 5 may 1997
The gospel oep ep is a collection of four brand new songs, feautering
contributions from jah wobble and davy spillane. Produced by John Reynolds.

The paper back itself is colour-gold paper and contains the lyrics (or the
poem or how you want to call it) sinead spoke at the end of the remix from
'you made me the thief of my heart' (the from the pont of light within the
mind of god, let light stream forth into the minds of men...part).

For those in the discografie numbers:

Chrysalis records, UK cdcdsdj 5051.
The lenght of the song is:3:12

If any of you is intrested i can try to order at my record store some more
copys of this unique and advanced one track promo. Together with postage it
will be $19/$20 orso.

I'm very happy i received this one.....

The real terrible news is well revealed in the interview thankly given by
Eduard:

Sinead is NOT going to release a new album in two years! She is MAYBE
going to start working on it on the summer!

That's it. We can all unsubscribe from jitr now. It seems that Sinead's
era is over.

(now, what am I going to do with my hompage?)

but I was never one to obey the rules :)

Hmm. I just resubscribed and missed part 1 of the interview. Could
someone possibly forward the whole thing to me at my email address
below?

I know you're disappointed, but I think you're also over reacting. A
lot of
artists take a several years between releases. How many years does
Peter Gabriel go between albums? What about the EP that's coming
out? How extensive is the tour she's going on?

>(now, what am I going to do with my hompage?)

Why not keep it? There are tons of Web Pages around dedicated
to bands that don't exist anymore or artists that are no longer active,
so why should anything happen to your page?

Keep the faith,

Rich Delano

PETIT POULET, THIS SONG SOUNDDS LIKE A FRENCH NURSERY RHYME.

No, it's not. This song is a couple of things really, mixed up in the song
but mainly it started off as my response to the Rwandan situation, what I
saw happening in Rwanda a couple of years ago. They speak Fench there, so
you know I guess I wanted to in some way write something wich would be
comforiting to the children that went through the evil that happened there.
I don't speak much French, so I guess I said as much as I could say in that
language and then continued on and what it means, it hust says, Little
chicken. In Ireland you calll babies 'Chicken' you kniow, so it sayd little
chicken, everything is ok now, that kind of thing. Its just trying to do
something I guess to provide some kind of shooting again. But then, this
song goes on again- like I said, they're all hyms - and it goes on and
talk about how you know there is no answer to the question nobody has an
explanation for why these things happen or why we are on earth and anyone
who says they do have an explanation is a liar really. And then the song
goes on
