Hello,

On the dutch music tv called "TMF" they told Sinead is gona preform again.
And also in Ireland. According to the presenter of the news, she wasn't
allowed to play there for some years because she has made statements which
where pro-IRA and ofcourse because of the POPE-incident......

They didn't give details about a tour or where she will preform but keep
your ears open. If you hear any news please lemme know, so I can update my site.

Ain't that a good start of 1997 ????

Here are some more for you all:

What magazines are good for her music?
Is there some kind of fanzine?
Are there any songbooks available? (besides UM?)
Does Sinead have a fan club? (there are more questions for this if there
is one in existance)
Is there a newsgroup or irc channel (a forum for discussion) dedicated to
Sinead?

Okay that's all for now :)

I was wandering if we could run in 'jitr' a survey of the best albums in 96.
Two years ago, such a survey was taken place, when many members sent their
opinions of the 10 best albums and the 10 worst albums in 94. I don't
think of any reason why not doing it this year. Since we all share some
common interest in music (Sinead), there is a chance that we will be able
to reach albums that we haven't heard so far.

As for myself, #1 album in 96 was "Secrets" (Tony Braxton). Not only
because of "Unbreak my heart", but also due to some great r&b stuff in
this album.

Beside "Secrets" I would like also to mention "Boys for Pele" (Tori
Amos) which is maybe her best album. Of course, "The score" (Fugees), and
finally "Common ground", which is maybe not the best album I heard, but
Sinead appears there with a great song, and that's what matters.

Happy new year everyone, and BTW, if you have any time to go out to a
vacation, I strongly recommand visiting Israel. It is hot here like in
the middle of July (25-30 degrees yesterday, really!). And considering the
hard winter in Europe...

Yoav.

So, should we just send our top-lists to the list, or would someone take
all the "votes" and then compile a chart from the results...? Thats how
we did it on the UK-indie list...

It's not really hard over here, up in the north... yesterday 0 degrees
(celsius) and today -8, which is more like what it should be this time of
the year... Gee.. 25-30 degrees... that's too hot for me... :)

Can anybody tell me is she (Sinead) like Joan of Arc?
Is a real person (reecarnation) or Sinead's admiration?

Well, I hope to hear from somebody/anybody soon.

I'm pretty new to the list and usually keep very quite but I thought I
would jump into the top album foray.

1996 was the year I bought a new computer so I didn't have a lot of
money for "new" music -- most of my purchases were from the used bins at
various pawn shoppes or CD stores.

For my selections (in no particular order (except that Aimee is No. 1
for this year) and there are not 10):

I'm with stupid - Aimee Mann

Universal Mother - Sinead (I was only able to get this in '96 and its
MY list so I'm putting including it)

Coming Up Close, A Retrospective - 'Til Tuesday -- Yes, it is a
greatest hits album, so count that against me, BUT (and this is a
very BIG but) it does also have video clips on the CD which make it
worth the $14 bucks.

WhipSmart - Liz Phair - Again, another NON-1996 release that I only now
had the money to purchase. She's a bit crazy, but in several ways much
like the focus of this group.

The Ghost of Tom Joad - The Boss, Bruce Springsteen - I am beginning to
see a trend here. I just seem to be about one year behind on finding
the money. Maybe I need a new job??

That's all for now.

Hey! This is jeF.

In my opinion, the best albums of the year where:

The Cranberries: To the Faithful Departed

The Tony Rich Project: Words

Holly McNarland: Sour Pie

ANI DIFRANCO (no one album of hers, in particular.
every song she writes is gargantuously great).

The worst albums of the year (this is only my opinion,
because I'm sure people may find great pleasure in listening
to what I do not) are:

Marilyn Manson
Pantera

Hello there! This is jeF.

I am just wondering, if anyone knows the correct chords for
BLACK BOYS ON MOPEDS. I printed a transcription of the song,
from one Sinead internet site, but it seems to be in the wrong
key (although it is the correct progression).

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

This is what I'm currently playing (but I'd rather be
using the correct chords):

DDD AAA GGG GG
A DDD AAA GGG GG
A DDD AAA GGG GG
A DDD AAA GGG GGG

Hello,

I wanna start with wishing everybody a happy new year, with a lot of Sinead
news and even better music.

A little correction; forrest national doesn't exist !!! Even though the
sleeve of the video mentions it ! The person who made the sleeve has to
shame himself for such a free-interpretation of a title of a concert hall.
The Hall is called; Vorst National. Which can't be translated to Forrest
National. Vorst doesn't mean Forrest but "King" or eventually "Freezing".
But besides that since when can a name be translated ??? Must Sinead's name
be spelled different in other langauges ??? No, so why a concert hall ???
It's called "Vorst National"
The dates for this video are;
Belgium - Brussels - Vorst National - oct.29th 1990
Holland - Rotterdam - Ahoy Sportpaleis - Oct. 30th 1990

>>How easy are these video tapes to find?
Very hard, but trading is a possibility. Though keep attended which
video-system you use. Europe uses the PAL system and America uses the NTCS
system, if you have 1 system you can't play tapes of the other system. Most
video tapes are available on both systems.

Hello,

>Is there some kind of fanzine?

Nope, there doesn't excist any, and there have never excist one. There would
be to little memberships to keep the price on a acceptable level. Also to be
honest there isn't enough information/news to fill an issue every 2-3
months. Okay the first 10 issues can maybe filled with old info and details
but after that.....

>Are there any songbooks available? (besides UM?)

Besides UM there seems to be one of the Lion And The Cobra. But I think they
all exist but are hard to find. Besides these official books there is a
italian book which contains a lot of her lyrics;

* Sin=E9ad O=92Connor / Tutti i test con traduzione a fronte
   1996 Italiana ISBN; 88-09-20911-7
Lyrics of the all albums (exept for AINYG) in both English and Italian,
and explanations of the songs in Italian !

And ofcourse there is my homepage which includes over a 100 lyrics (about
all her songs) When the day has come that I have really all available lyrics
I might make a book of it. (but that's just a thought of the moment)

>Does Sinead have a fan club? (there are more questions for this if there
>is one in existance)

Nope. The only place where we get together is this mailing list, and it's
the best place to be, what can a fan-club offer more then this page ???
The only thing the can offer mostly is out of date news. But this list is
free so there are more members to post news which is really up to date. So I
think we don't need a fanclub. (Though I think THIS is the club !)

>Is there a newsgroup or irc channel (a forum for discussion) dedicated to
>Sinead?

About a year ago I started a newsgroup, but there wasn't enough interest and
no-one posted to it. It still excists but a lot providers stopped to give it
through because of the low interest, they prefer to give access to another
more in use newsgroup.
btw; the newsgroup has a weird name (spelling error, made by the person who
created the group); alt_music_sinaed
The only messages you'll find there are add about "how to get rich quickly"
and stuff like that, but I am curious about howmany of you do still have
access to this group ! Please lemme know.
A IRC channel can be made by everyone just type in a title and starting from
then it exists. But if you leave it stops to excist. So let's say we call
the channel #sinead so if someone wants to look on undernet for someone to
talk to about Sinead let's all use this channel.
What about fixing a date/time (UST ???) to discuss ?

Sinead also appears in a small cameo role in Turner's version of Wuthering
Heights with Ralph Fienes.

Wow, I just love it when there is a "what are your favorite albums" topic
floating around. Here is my two cents:

*Sinead O'Connor: UNIVERSAL MOTHER
*Tori Amos: BOYS FOR PELE
*Lisa Germano: EXCERPTS FROM A LOVE CIRCUS (give it a shot)
*Lisa Germano: HAPPINESS
*Sinead O'Connor: THE LION AND THE COBRA
*Josh Clayton-Felt: INARTICULATE NATURE BOY
*Siouxsie and the Banshees: TWICE UPON A TIME
*Portishead: DUMMY
*Tori Amos: LITTLE EARTHQUAKES
*Belly: STAR
*Juliana Hatfiend Three: BECOME WHAT YOU ARE
*Various Artists: THE TRAINSPOTTING SOUNDTRACK

thank you for hearing me

This is incorrect. At least in Canada, the only book that can be ordered,
and, according to the vendors, exists at all, is UM.

I'm holding a copy of am i not your girl and i do not want in my hands right
now (well, actually, they are lying next to me) and the library has
universal mother. So i know for sure those thee excists. I only never saw
The lion and cobra.
But the words to those songs can be found (as marcel also wrote) in the
italian book Tutti testi con traduzione a fronte. In this book they describe
the web-page of jrussel as her internet fan side and they name Roman
Szendrey's adres for more sinead info.

Where can I get hold of such a ribbon? Is it something similar to the

I can't exactly speak for Holli, but I thought some of you would be
interested to
know that you can download a green-ribbon icon from her page

highly suggest doing this, as I shall momentarily.

It's been two years since "Universal Mother".

Hello JITR's.
At the moment I'm reading a novel by Joseph O'Connor called "The
Irish Male home and Abroad". Joseph O'Connor is the brother of
Sinead, and one of the biggest contemporary writers in Ireland. He
has written several novels, all of them bestsellers. This book I'm
reading is very funny, he has a very witty and self-ironic style of
writing, resembling the style of many Irish stand-up comedians.
The last chapter of the book is about his childhood; he is writing
about his relationships with his mother, the divorce, the trial giving
the mother back the custody over Sinead and Eimear, etc. I think
it's quite interesting to read about all this from his perspective,
to see how his view differs from Sinead's. He is not nearly as
preoccupied with the abuse that took place, although he too is
talking about the fear of the children, the mothers capricous nature
and terrible mood-swings etc. I've skimmed through most of his books,
and what is really strange is that he doesn't mention Sinead with one
word; only "my sisters" and "my brothers"; there are a lot of
instances in the book where it would be natural to mention her; he is
writing about the rock history of Ireland, of his passion for rock
music; of female rock stars etc. Her absence from his books is quite
conspicuous and strange, the relationship between him and Sinead seem
very strained.

I know the list is divided in terms of what the purpose of this list is;
some feel it should only focus on Sineads music, others are interested in
her person and her history as well, and there should be room for both.
So, if any of you are interested, I can post some extracts from the
book, just let me know.

anne :-)

anne!

I think extracts from Joseph O'Connor's book would be interesting to
see... and I think it would be fascinating to read about Sinead's
childhood from her brother's point of view (although he does not mention
her directly)... I think you should post them.

Hello Anne,
I would be very interested in reading some of the extracts, and am glad
you posted this particular piece. Thankyou!
Myriam.

P.S. I would be most interested in the parts about his and Sinead's
childhood. I sort of think a different perspective might be interesting. I
know their mother abused them, but I think she suffered as well. I kind of
feel a bit sorry for their mother and would like to know more about her.

Does anyone have any info on the new Rick Wright album that Sinead was supposed
to guest on a few songs on? I thought the release date was January, but the
Tower release calender does not include it. Any info? Is Sinead still on it?
(Rick Wright is of Pink Floyd fame).

Ok, I'll be the resident Pink Floyd expert...nobody really knows. It was
supposed to be out today. Rumor has it that it'll be out January 21. If
you really, really want a copy, they are availible in Canada.

Hey everyone, I was looking through this one web page and I found a little
article on Sinead:

the url is http://metaverse.com/vibe/sleaze/sleaze.01-14-97.html

It is as follows:

A veteran Irish actor has to defind his casting of controversial rock star
Sinead O'connor as the Virgin mary in his new film. Milo O'Shea, 70, has
lashed back at outraged Catholics who have criticized director Neil Jordon
for portraying her as a foul-mouthed Madonna in The Butcher Boy. But
O'Shea admits that many poeple will be offended by O'Connor's role in the
movie, which opens later this year. The actor, who plays a homosexual
priest, says, "I believe that older peple will be stunned and upset by
Sinead being in the part. My first though was that Neil was casting
against type, but then I realized that Sinead has a beautiful face and a
sense of serenity that makes her right to play the Virgin Mary." The
Catholic Church has already said it would have preferred to see "somebody
else" in the role. In the film O'Connor appears as an apparition to a
troubled 13-year-old boy who has been molested by local priest Father
Sullivan, played by O'Shea.

Are you referring to the "Broken China" album? If so: I bought it a
few weeks before X-mas as an import from Europe, so you really can
order it already. However, my humble opinion: apart from Sinead's
voice (which is always breathtaking) the album is really quite dull.
(Just my opinion!)
Take care! Suse*

Ah, nice to know people are still making use of all the work I did
back then transcribing all the lyrics I could make out! You can get
them from lyrics archives like ftp.uwp.edu or
ftp.leo.org:/pub/rec/music/vocal/lyrics/uwp/o/oconnor.sinead/ , or I
can send them to you.

Hi Elisabeth, yeah they are still downloaded a lot from my page, btw Carlos,
on my page you'll find the lyrics which Elisabeth made topgether with about
100 other lyrics. (And Elisabeths lyrics have been corrected a little), it
can be found on; http://www.telebyte.nl/~bobbink/sinead_main_page.htm

Thanks for all the feedback on my last posting about the book
"The Irish Male at Home and Abroad"(New Island
Books 1996), by Joseph O'Connor, Sineads older brother.
The book ends with an autobiographical appendix called "Banana
Republic: Recollections of a Suburban Irish Childhhod", and here are
some exerpts:

"In the summer of 1977 I was thirteen years old and pretty miserable
with my life. My parents marriage -unhappy for a long time- had
finally disintergrated in the most acrimonious circumstances. My
father had moved out of the house, applied to the courts for custody
over myself, my two sisters and my brother, and won his case. On the
day he had come back to collect us and take us to our new home, I had
asked him to let me stay living with my mother. I felt sorry for her,
I suppose, and did not want her to be left on her own. My father
agreed I could do this."
.......
So, appearantly, Joseph lived with his mother for a time while Sinead
and the others stayed with their father. Later on, there's an
interesting paragraph about his (and Sineads) mother:

"We fought a lot, my mother and I. She had wonderful qualities. She
also had a passionate and mercurial nature which the circumstances of
her life had somehow forced down a wrong turn, so that it has taken
the shape of anger. she possessed a capacity for doing great harm to
people she loved, and that musthave made her very unhappy. When I
think about her now, I try to do so with compassion and love, because
like all unhappy people, she deserved that. But in those days, we
hurt each other alot, my mother and I."
...
Then there's alot of stuff about his adolescence and rock music and
porn magazines, and how he listened to The Boomtown Rats when he was
down:
"The thing is, I used to get very down those days. It began as a
pretty typical adolescence thing but it steadily got worse, until it
got more serious, until it became a real depression. i missed my
brother and my two sisters. I missed my father more than I can say,
and I wasn't getting on at all well with my mother."I was supposed to
go and see my father evry weekend, but my mother had gotten to the
stage where she would simply not let me do this. she had began to
drink too much. she was also taking drugs, sleeping pills,
tranquilisers of various kinds. She must have been enduring some
dreadful pain at the time, the poor woman, but at the time I must
say, I only cared about the pain she inflicted on me."
.......
A lot of other stuff, and then, moving on to 1979:
"...things in the life of my family began to worsen again. My mother
took my father to court and somehow won back custody of my two
sisters and my brother. It was a decision that would lead to great
unhappiness for my family - some would say it was an amazingly stupid
decision by the courts. (.....) My father was (..) denied access to
us, and nobody official ever did a thing to help him. and there was
fear. We experienced terror, the four of us children. We never knew
from one moment to the next how my mother would beahve towards us.
There were many times when she treated us well - with the affection
and love that she had for us. But there were other times when she
seemed to see us as enemies, and at those times, the atmosphere in
the house was close to unbearable. I don't know how we got through
it. I sure as hell couldnt do it now."

Then the mother went into hospital:
"We went pretty wild, my brother, my two sisters and I. We stayed up
late, we did exactly what we liked (....) Three weeks after she
came home, my two sisters ran away and returned to live with my
father, where they were treated with the love affection and respect
they deserved. They never came back to Gleanagary.".

Phiew, that was a lot of typing. It seems that what he is writing
confirms Sineads story, although they do seem to see it
very differently, and to be affected but it in very different ways.
I'll be happy to get any comments or reactions on this.

Anne :-)

I bought "Broken China" in early November and I really didn't know that it
wasn't yet been released in USA.
As Susanne, I like only the two songs performed by Sinead, and the last one,
Breakthrough, in particular.
Following are the texts of the two songs, for you "Americans" :)
waiting the Album.

Ciao & Bye, Paolo.

------------------

REACHING FOR THE RAIL
(<RW> means Rick Wright vocals, <SIN & RW> means duet and nothing means
Sinead vocals)

I'm ill with a fever, I feel like a child
I lay in the dark 'til morning came.
It's so unoriginal
And I feel it worse at night

I know it's not terminal
But I'm near halh-dead with fright
And freezing cold.

But sooner than wake up
To find it all unchanged
I'll sleep through the day til the daylight ends.
'Cos it's all so familiar
As it comes around again
The same taste to everything
The same unbroken chain
That still remains

With morning I rise
A dream that won't leave me,

You're sad, naked and pale

And you're reaching for the rail

<RW> You took a look inside, how could you peel away
<RW> Or break the shell, the hurt you've hidden so well
<RW> For all your days.

<RW> And you're going down
<RW> As you sleep benath the waves,
<RW> Won't make a sound
<RW> Won't even leave a trace before you.

I hear an appalling sigh from the street below
And it's creeping fear congealed in stone
That paves the crazy road.
<SIN & RW> And all are succumbing and they look so hopelessy
<SIN & RW> At the heartbreak, it's easy to deal with,
<SIN & RW> Just take these and you'll really never feel it.

BREAKTHROUGH

I can take or leave it, won't be the woebegone,
Don't need a model universe to hang your pictures on.
You hide some where, you die somewhere
And then this senseless thought,
By hating more you've feeling more
And that's how you get caught.

They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure
I greet you from your wilderness
I'll stay inside your door.

There is no cage or prison, they have no fence too tall,
You die more times than anyone, there's still no place to fall

They're never going to keeo it simple
This comes down from above.
I have no helm, no secret realm,
I dream to be at the heart of love, a part of love.

I bet you can conceal it, but that's just a dead-end track,
I'll cover you like the driven snow and then I'll bring you back.
You'll see! you feel like, you feel like a banner,
Unfurled and gently blown,
And there before your opening eyes
The self yoy have never known.

They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure.
You feel untied, beatified
And loved for evermore.

Hello everyone! This is jeF.

I was just wondering if anyone has an address which
could be written to, in regards to ordering
Sinead posters? (because I have yet to see a poster of her).

Also, does anyone have any bootlegs of her show(s).
I was just lamenting to myself tonight, that I have never seen
or heard her perform
live (excluding that WTN television network thing,
of "Am I Not Your Girl" behind the scenes studio stuff).

AND is anyone on this list, from around the Chatham, Ontario area?
I would like to know just for the sake of having that knowledge.
Also, I really want to start a SERIOUSly slammin' band (but ... who doesn't)

THANKS+A LOT for your time, in reading my self-serving questions.

good-by f/now.

jeF. in terrible chatham ontario.

In reply to jeF, I personally have 3 Sinead posters of my own. One I got at
a local (Lawrence, KS) record store, one at a record show in Minneapolis, MN,
and one thru the mail. The mail order one was bought from a store called
INTERGALACTIC GARAGE. They are on the web so just Yahoo! their name and you
can order over the net. Also they usually have a full page ad in Goldmine
magazine. (available at most large bookstores or newstands, Barnes and Noble
or Borders) As far as bootlegs go, KISS THE STONE Records has at least one
bootleg called Beautiful Vision. (I think) It cost me about $20 at a record
show. Also, they usually have a catalog in Alternative Press magazine. I
know that there are many other bootlegs floating around. I would ask Marcel
Bobbink. He usually is up to date on that sort of thing.

The cover tape is compiled. Here are the tracks:

- A perfect indian...Antje Schlabitz
- The value of ignorance...Poopchrist
- I am stretched on your grave...Caroline von b.
- Heroine...Antje Schlabitz
- Just like u said it would b...Meghan Chandler/Guido Schlabitz
- Scorn not his simplicity...Cyrille Fraisse
- The foggy dew...Meghan Chandler
- Black boys on mopeds...Antje Schlabitz/Cyrille Fraisse

I've just sent a copy to Meghan and Antje.
The sound quality is not great. But the tape is ok. There are
a cappella songs, folk songs, rock (almost grunge) etc...
Every Sinead album is represented (maybe not "am i not your
girl" but...) and also some of her contributions to other
albums. Well i'm quite proud of the tape. Maybe i will try
to send one to Sinead.

ciao, cyrille.

Will this tape be tree-ed? I'm a huge sucker for covers ("Ode to Billy Jo" is
one of my fav Sinead songs), and would be very interested in hearing this. Are
any of the artists available on cd? Thankx.

Hihi, that's funny. I think you didn't realized that these musicians on =

artist of the tape tried hard, I did and also my brother (Guido).

Hello everyone.

I would be interested in getting a copy of the cover tape. Is it going to be
tree'd? Let me volunteer to be a branch right now. If not, how can one go
about getting a copy?

Thanks,
Amy

Well I don't have time to organize any tape tree.
I start a training period in february...
I plan to send a few copies to those who first expressed some interest in
getting a copy of the tape. Then i won't have the time anymore to send
more copies. I hope Meghan, Antje or those who will first get a copy,
will accept spreading the cover tape...

Antje deserves to have her own cd :->

Hello all

This week a friend of mine will go to Milano, Italy. There is a record store
were they sell a book called, Sinead o'connor, tutti testi con traduzione a
fronte. This book (95 pag.) contains the lyrics of 'the lion and the cobra',
'I do not want what i haven't got' and 'Universal mother', also includes are
the lyrics from 'My special child' and 'I am enough for myself'.

The lyrics are written in English with an italian translation on the right
of them. Further this book has an complete discographie and a 20 page storie
on sinead and a short explanation of each song (unfortunately those are
written in italian).

The book will cost about $30 excluding the costs of shipping.
If you are intrested in this book, please let me know before wednesday 29/1.
Then my friend will leave for Italy and he can buy the books for those who
replyed and I can send them to you when he returns. He will be away for
about one week.
With this book (published by EMI-records) it's finally clear what she sings
on 'the lion and the cobra'.

Hope you like it....

Eduard Verheijen

ps. i still have some sinead live-concert audio and some pal-system live
video/ video clips tapes left. Feel free to ask for a list.
