Ave Maria
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D

Ave Maria,=20

nunc et in hora, hora mortis nostrae
Amen.

I have an invitation for you.
Is there a celebration?
No, I'm not inviting you to a celebration.
I'm inviting you to a ..........

God is inside of us
The devil is outside us
in the world all around us
pick up an axe
.....the devils throught
we'll fight him whatever he is
The sick and the rich........

Hi guys,

I don't know if this has been posted, but Sinead appears on Abdel
Ali Slimani's album "Mraya" (she sings rather audible backing vocals in
Arabic on the title track). I only have a tape of it, but for those who are
interested in looking for the CD I think the catalog number is REAL WORLD
CDRW 55 (UK). :)

        Best,

                Ju

God is inside of us
The devil is outside us

A transcription of the Latin part would be something like;

Sorry for the mis-use of some words, I translated the dutch words almost
litterly. :-)

Be blessed Maria, full of mercy, the lord is with you.
You are the blessed of the women, and blessed is Jesus,
the fruit of your lap. Holy Maria, mother of God, pray for
us, sinners, now and in the hour of our death.
Amen.

hi!

I finally got a little time to scan in some pictures from the
1991 and 1992 issues of Rolling Stone that featured sinead. The
best picture is the 1992 cover... feel free to check them out!

I'll hopefully have the rest scanned in soon, and i might either scan
or transcribe the interviews... unless someone has them already done.

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions! Thanks!

Hello,

Stefan and I worked quite some days on Karen Finley's lyrics in Jump In The
River, but we still have some open places.

But because the USA is probably gonna censor the NET :-)) I thought now's
the time to ask you to help us before we can't place these dirty words on
the Internet anymore.

So please help !

Jump In The River
(Karen Finley's lyrics)
===============

Brother, do you have a prick?
Yes, I do I just like ghost (goes?) do (?????)
Brother, do you have a prick?
Yes, I do I just like ghost (goes?) do (??)

After my mother washed me
Powdered me
I insisted that she'd masturbate me
You wonder why I've got panic attacks
You dream you eat me through my silken panties <----- You dream you ate
(hate?) me through...

But baby you've got it wrong
I don't smile when I come out !

Jump start me
Jump start me
Jump, jump, jump, jump

Ain't got a leg, but I got a stop <--- (what do you think?)
Ain't got dick baby, but I got a pup <---(??)
Ain't got a tee (????), but I got all up <---(?)

Never knew how to walk
So I gotta jump
Jump start me
Jump start me
Jump in my heart
Jump from the start

Well, he loves to wear silk not a scarf around his neck, baby
Finger them, finger the scarves
he twist the scarf around my neck, baby
I wish he was twisting it around my clit
I mean my dick
I mean my cock
Baby, twist it
Twist it good
Twist that silky scarf

Well you sell those ties at Madison Avenue
Work me
Work me good
And you perform that magic trick good
By taking that silk tie
Oiled
N.... it (?)
Pull it out of my asshole
Let me come
Let me come

   Jump In The River
   (Karen Finley's lyrics)
   ===============

Brother, do you have a prick?

I thought it was "Mother," actually.

Yes, I do I just like ghost (goes?) do (?????)

I thought it was 'cows.'

Brother, do you have a prick?
Yes, I do I just like ghost (goes?) do (??)

   After my mother washed me
   Powdered me
I insisted that she'd masturbate me
You wonder why I've got panic attacks
You dream you eat me through my silken panties <----- You dream you ate
   (hate?) me through...

Ate, I thought.

But baby you've got it wrong
   I don't smile when I come out !

It's just "come," isn't it?

   Jump start me
   Jump start me
   Jump, jump, jump, jump

Ain't got a leg, but I got a stop <--- (what do you think?)

Stump, I thought.

Ain't got dick baby, but I got a pup <---(??)

Pump, I thought.

   Ain't got a tee (????), but I got all up <---(?)

I thought it was 'titty' and 'lump,' respectively.

   Never knew how to walk
   So I gotta jump
   Jump start me
   Jump start me
   Jump in my heart
   Jump from the start

Well, he loves to wear silk not a scarf around his neck, baby

I think it's 'knot,' actually.

   Finger them, finger the scarves
he twist the scarf around my neck, baby
I wish he was twisting it around my clit
   I mean my dick
   I mean my cock
   Baby, twist it
   Twist it good
   Twist that silky scarf

Well you sell those ties at Madison Avenue
   Work me
   Work me good
And you perform that magic trick good
   By taking that silk tie
   Oiled
   N.... it (?)

Knotted?

Pull it out of my asshole
   Let me come
   Let me come

...and it's a great track and a great album!

Jah Wobble (who collaborated with Sinead in the past) plays
Bass. Abdel appeared on his "Take me to God" album. John Reynolds
(Sinead's ex-husband) plays drums and some of the mixing was done in
his studio. Natacha Atlas (great voice! she also appeared on "Take me
to God") sings backing vocals on some other tracks. Her debut album is
on release this week.

Mraya reminds me a bit of the 13min remix of "Fire on Babylon" - it's
a very similar arrangement. I'm also pretty sure that it is Abdel who
is singing the Arabic vocals on "Fire on Babylon".

That's because Chrysalis and Ensign move office about once every
year. I think they may also have several offices. Your best bet is to
call directory enquiries, get their phone #, ring them and then ask
them were they currently are. As far as I know all the mail eventually
ends up with Sinead's management, which is Pure Management (if it
still is). They have a similarly impressive track record to Chrysalis
and Ensign when it comes to moving office, so please don't ask me
where they currently are :-)

Knotted,

I remember the first time I ever heard this version of JITR. I was 17 and
I was too shocked to play it loud enough for anyone to hear. Eventually I
got into it, especially after seeing some of Karen's work on her own.

Please make all bids in US funds. Postage will be included in any
domestic orders over $30. Overseas orders over $50, and it will be

if you cannot cover it.

All items are in great shape - any significant flaws will be
disclosed before a sale or trade is finalized.

As far as bids go, I am FAR MORE interested in trade (rather than
money). Keep in mind that any trade will take presidence over a monetary
bid. I am looking for releases from the following artists (as well as all
side- projects, aliases, remixes of other bands' stuff):

I Want Your (Hands On Me)
(Sinead O'Connor/Mike Clowes/John Reynolds/Rob Dean/"Spike" Hollifield)
=======================================================================
I want your hands on me
What I want, give me
You know I wanna please you
What I wanna do to you

You don't waste no time, do you?
You know I'm looking through you
Why you wanna tease me
I want you to come and please me

Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me

You know that I can thrill you
I want you call me to you
I wanna move, will you?
I really wanna feel you

Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me

Put your hands on me
Put your hands on me
Put your hands on me
Put your hands on me
Put your hands on me
Put your hands on me
Put your hands on me

Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me

Hands, gimme love
Hands, gimme loads
Hands, gimme love
Hands, gimme loads

I want your
Feelings
Gimme, yes

Aaahhhh

Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me
Put'em on, put'em on, put'em on me

On Tue, 6 Feb 1996, that pervert Marcell exclaimed:

> Ain't got a leg, but I got a stop <--- (what do you think?)
> Ain't got dick baby, but I got a pup <---(??)
> Ain't got a tee (????), but I got all up <---(?)

And then, Sharon Fisher (with a straight face) replied:

Hello,

Could you all please look at these lyrics and correct them if neccisary;

Biko (Peter Gabriel)
>From a album called Wakafrika by a band called Manu diBango,
containing Sinead's background vocals.

September '77
Port Elizabeth weather fine
It was business as usual
In police room 619
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, because
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, because
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is death, the man is death

When I try to sleep at night
I can only dream in red
The outside world is black and white
With only one colour dead
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, because
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, because
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is death, the man is death

You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flame begins to catch
The wind will blow it higher
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, because
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, because
Oh Biko, Biko, Biko, Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is death, the man is death
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is death, the man is death
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is death, the man is death

Please make all bids in US funds. Postage will be included in any
domestic orders over $30. Overseas orders over $50, and it will be
covered as well. Otherwise, I will let you know about the postage cost.

I have the right to refuse any bid. Also, please don't make an offer
if you cannot cover it.

THE APHEX TWIN, ATOM HEART / LASSIGUE BENDTHAUS, COIL, DEPTH CHARGE,

Hi everyone.

I must admit. I don't like at all this Sinead's items sell that is done
by Christopher. One of the reasons (not the major one) is that he is
trying to make money out of it. A LOT of money, it seems to me. This is
not nice, because we are talking about a collector's items. Items that
were collected for many years I guess. They are priceless in any mean.

Never mind. You want to make money out of it - be my guest, as long as
there are buyers, it is your right.

But what I really don't like is that you, Christopher, come to this
mailing list, a mailing list of Sinead's "fans", and write that you are
going to sell ALL Sinead's items. If you are not interested in Sinead &
her music - it is your right, but it is really not nice, to tell us that.

I, myself, am insulted.

Hello,

I need your help again with these lyrics;

I used the bootleg "The Lion In The Cage" to transcribe them;

Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair
         Traditional song
=========================================
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She....sweetest smile the gentlest time <-----???
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I love my love, and well she knows
I love the ground whereon she goes
I wish the day soon would come
When she and I will be as one

And black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She.....sweetest smile the gentlest time <-----???
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I go to the Clyde and mourn and weep
But satisfied I never shall leave
I'll write her a letter with a few short lines <---??
and suffer death a thousand times

And black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She.....sweetest smile the gentlest time <----????
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I love the ground whereon she stands
I love the ground whereon she stands

Yoav,
Don't be insulted by the sale. Christopher has a great appreciation for the
music and he is not interested in taking advantage of anyone. He is
providing me, a huge fan, a great service. I owe a lot to him. He is
courteous, professional and very fair. As someone who has subscribed to the
list for a while I can say he has provided me with the best reason for being
here. Him and Marcel that is. I understand your concern but I assure you
his intentions are pure.

i can only agree with you. christopher offers a great service to us sinead-
fans who are looking for rare items. well, the items have a value for us.
there are some i'd pay a lot for and if someone is not interested he does
not have to buy one or even read the message.

i know that cristopher is one of the biggest sinead-fans here and if he is
selling parts of his collection that does not mean he does not like
sinead. he has sooo many versions of these items so i guess he's only
selling a little part of his collection.

About Christophers sale;
Yoah, I can imagine your opinion about Christopher, but I don't think you
know him well. If I wouldn't know him I would have had the same opinion.
He was a Sinead-collector but probably is over that period in his live :-),
he was probably the person with (one of) the largest collection(s) you could
find on this list.
And I doubt wether he is making a lot money out of it.
(He would if he just sold me InTuaNua or The Colourfield...just joking :-))
And even if he made some money out of it....why not ? In his sinead-days he
probably also paid a lot for some items.
Though the prices aren't that high in the "Sinead Collecting World", have
you ever seen the prices in the Beatles, Stones, U2 or Prince worlds ???
That is real business. $100.00 for just one item are normal prices there.

And I am sure Christopher isn't selling to get a LOT of money out of it,
some months ago he send me a 12" for free, I even didn't have to pay him the
postal-cost.

>But what I really don't like is that you, Christopher, come to this
>mailing list, a mailing list of Sinead's "fans", and write that you are

>her music - it is your right, but it is really not nice, to tell us that.

Christopher is on this list a long time already, and he really is/was a fan.
I'm sure Christopher didn't sell ALL his items, I wish he would have cause
he still has some items which I want.
Which place would be a better place for a Sinead-sale then this list ?
Here are the people who are really looking for those items, so he helps a
lot of us completing our collection.

>I, myself, am insulted.
That's your right, and like I said before, I would have also if I wouldn't
know him....
But with Christopher I would have been insulted if he DIDN'T sell his stuff
here but in the ALT.MUSIC.MARKETPLACE or some group like that.

The only thing about Christopher I am insulted about is that he doesn't like
Sinead's music anymore....:-) HOW COULD HE ?
Most people never really listened to sineads music, but he knows it, he
knows how great she is....so IMO he should still like her music :-)

Hi people,

I'm not sure how this discussion got started, but if there was some
sort of criticism directed towards Christopher Miller then I also want to
add that he has been nothing but incredibly generous towards me (and my
Sinead collection!).

        Best,

Hm. I didn't realize that I was upsetting anyone over this FS list.
This is the second one which I have done on JITR, and yours is the first
negative response I've come across. If you or anyone else has a complaint
about this sale, please e-mail me in private and we'll talk about this
more (a bad reputation is the last thing I want).

On that note, maybe we should open a forum concerning what is and is
not allowed when a FS list is posted on JITR.

Again, I apologize for any problems which I may have caused.

I'm subscirbed not only to this list, but to another as well.

I welcome sales on both. Already I've obtained several CD's which would have
been very hard for me to find.

I often help others out in locating difficult to find items.

The only "gripe" I would have with sales is the following....

I don't particularly like the "Auctions" I wish those selling would decide
what they want for an item and then post the price and sell to the first
reply. If they don't recieve payment in (2) weeks, sell to the next person
who requested the same item.

To make it fair, post a notice of WHEN the pricing and item list will appear.

Also,I don't mind paying a little extra to the person releasing the item, as
they're doing us all a service and making it quite easy for us to complete or
begin our own collections.

I simply don't care to go head to head with my fellow Sinead fans.

In the case of an EXCEPTIONALLY rare item, by all means....AUCTION it off.

-Little

Speaking as the jitr list owner, I would say that we have never had
an explicit policy about commercial postings on the list. It seems
to be best approached on a case-by-case basis. One one end of the
spectrum is random unrelated spam, which is (hopefully) caught by
Majordomo and deleted before anyone sees it, and on the other end
are messages like Christopher's which are from list members offering
Sinead-related material for sale, which is perfectly fine (so long
as it doesn't get posted too often and turn the list into a
collection of advertising).

:-o

Well, I was quite surprised about the responses to my previous e-mail,
this is why I what to conclude and explain what I said.

Let's leave the issue of the money. It is not that important, and since
many fans will be very happy with what they will get from Christopher, I
really don't have any rights to tell him not to sell the items.

But I was offended, really. It hurts to see such an ex-huge fan like
Christopher selling all his Sinead-stuff that he collected for years. Poor
Sinead. She is hardly been heard these days on the radio and tv channels,
and now even her fans start leaving her. It hurts.

And it really hurts when such a selling occurs in the JITR. this e-mail
should have been posted to the appropriate newsgroups. And if you send it
to JITR, which is much more logical, since all the potential buyers are
here, at least add some explainations at the headline.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the February 28th deadline for cover
tape submissions is rapidly approaching. Thus far, I've recieved one
submission (Thanks Caroline, I got it today.) It'll be a pretty short tape
unless all the others come in pretty quick. There's still time, so get them
off to me soon, you stragglers.

Thanks - Todd

Hello,

Some good news:

In the annual poll the readership of the Irish music magazine Hot
Press have voted Sinead for the best Irish female artist of the
year. :-) Among others she beat Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries,
who came second. Sinead also did well in the best Irish songwriter section,
where she came third after Bono and Van Morrison (if I remember it correctly).

>Poor Sinead. She is hardly been heard these days on the radio and tv channels,
> and now even her fans start leaving her. It hurts.

Don't be sad Yoav, she isn't completely forgotten. :-)

Best wishes,
Stefan

Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair
         Traditional song
=========================================
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She....sweetest smile the gentlest time <-----???
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I love my love, and well she knows
I love the ground whereon she goes
I wish the day soon would come
When she and I will be as one

And black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She.....sweetest smile the gentlest time <-----???
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I go to the Clyde and mourn and weep
But satisfied I never shall leave
I'll write her a letter with a few short lines <---??
and suffer death a thousand times

And black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She.....sweetest smile the gentlest time <----????
And I love the ground whereon she stands
I love the ground whereon she stands
I love the ground whereon she stands

Hello,

I wanted to translate Mraya (newest sinead song) but that's probably
impossible. It's sung in Algerian/Arabic, and some parts are french.

On this cd called Mraya done by Abdel Ali Slimani, Sinead sings the
background vocals on the title-track. It's really a great cd which I would
have bought even if it didn't include a song with Sinead.

BTW; there is another song (and a remix of that song) on this cd, which
according to my girlfriend, includes vocals by Sinead, though it isn't
mentioned in the booket.....and I'm not sure about that....could be, could not.
This song is called Anna Guelile and the remix is called Ana Guelile dub.
So if you have this cd please listen.

Abdel's cd is produced by Peter Gabriel (him again) and the songs where
written by Abdel Slimani, Justin Adams, Jah Wobble (also him again) and (yep
who else) John Reynold. (It's a small world :-))
Jah Wobble also plays bass and John Reynolds also plays drums and adds some
background vocals.

So if you like RAI-music, or the music from Les Negress Vertes BUY THIS CD !!!
And if you like this cd, you should listen to (Cheb) Khaled. His biggest
hit, which was a huge hit here in The Netherlands, is Didi.
And when I was on a holliday in Tunesia 3 years ago, they played this song
over and over, where ever you came.

The song (Mraya) is superb, if you like RAI-music (like Cheb Khaled).
This kind of music fits to Sinead, because RAI-music is also protest-music,
mostly political. In Algeria it's impossible to tell you polical-ideas, so
Cheb Khaled started singing protest-songs underground.
RAI-music has the old Arabian music as its roots, but RAI uses a lot of
western-sound elements. And insteed of singing about how great life is
Cheb Khaled started singing about politics.
After a while Cheb Khaled became so famous that the Algerian government
wanted to stop him, so he moved to France. Lots of other singers also
started to sing RAI. Abou 2 years ago Cheb Khaled changed his artist name in
just Khaled because Cheb means something like boy, and now he's about 40 so
Cheb doesn't fit anymore.

This album which is released through Peter Gabriels label called "Real
World" fits in Peters ideas of publishing international music. He also
released albums with music from Pakistan, Cuba, Zaire, Tanzania, India,
Egypt, Mozambique, China, Pakistan, Samiland (where the h*ll is that ??),
Uganda, Pakistan, Russia, Cambodja, Madagascar, america, IRELAND, Georgia,
Colombia, Japan, Turkmenistan (????), Burkina Faso, Uganda, Morroco, Tuva
(???), Kenya, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Guinea, and his own from England.

This is the first message I'm posting to this list. And I can't help but
say that I most totally disagree with Yoav. Chris obviously has been a
collector for an extremely long time, and it is also clear that he has
been a true fan. But sometimes people need to move on and sometimes it's
necessary to purge oneself of the possessions that one has had for too
long. The stuff he's selling: they're just Things. I'm sure Chris still
loves the music but, as to keeping a huge pile of stuff in his house,
eventually you may need to get rid of it. I love Sinead's music, and right
now I'm going to try to find some new posters for my room. But eventually,
I'll get bored of them and I'll tear them down. That doesn't mean I'll
have stopped enjoying Sinead O'Connor's music, or that I'll have become
less of an adoring fan. You need not have a temple to worship.

Hello,

Sorry for bothering again today :-)

I wanted to let you know, that my Sinead-WWW-page is totally redone,
everything is changed and IMO it looks a lot better. Let's say the previous
one was a BETA-TEST and this is version 1.0

There are a few new links, the discography (of which is also a zipped
version downloadable) is updated till february 12th 1996, and the total of
available lyrics almost reached the 100.

And I added my own want-list so I don't have to bother you again with THAT
list through THIS list.

I don't know wether all browsers can read it normally, and wether I used
HTML1, HTML2, HTML3 codes, I don't know a thing about HTML (just started to
learn it a bit) so I hope you all can enter it with your own browser.

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AND GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT IT !

If your browser can't handle it, let me know what it can't handle maybe I
can change that in version 1.0.0l :-)
Also let me know when a link doesn't work (anymore), I know the guitar-tabs
link doesn't work yet. That page is gone for the moment, but will probably
back, so I left the link.
If you wanna see something added or corrected also....LEMME KNOW !!

I admit I'm fairly ignorant on some of Sinead's views, being a relatively
new fan and concentrating mainly on MUSIC, but does/has Sinead share(d) any
views on the IRA, the recent "peace" process, the even more recent IRA
bombing? Other than the song "Black Boys on Mopeds" and some Easter
Rebellion, historical Irish-type songs she has recorded, I have no idea what
her views are.

I appreciate the note on mailing address(es) for Sinead. I still haven't
found an e-mail address, if she wants that known. Any clues?

I was just thinking the other day that the things that make Sinead so
attractive are her ability to sound so hopeful, loving, optimistic, with
child-like faith one minute, and follow that up with such strength,
sometimes anger and bitterness, and power. I guess it comes from the overall
sincerity of her work. While a lot of performers seems to plan for
"shock-value", it seems that Sinead is a genuinely shocking person, and she
is not inhibited in the least by fame, money, or media. I love her!

This is really good news. Though I think that Sinead didn't do much last
year (95). After her great performances during the summer, she became
silence more or less (still, there were the song "Empire" which is really a
great hit -- can someone give me information about it, and her songs with
The Chieftains).

1995 was not a great year for the females singers in general I think. I can
only mention two: Bjork, with her great album "Post" (which is still not as
good as "Debut", but close enough), and of course Alanis Morissette with her
unbelievable album "Jagged Little Pill" (I give it a mark of 9 out of 10).
JLP reminds me a bit of TLaTC, in its virginity and freshness.

Let's hope that 1996 will be the year of Sinead (with her new album,
hopefully), and if Dolores will release a new one, I will not be sorry
either.

;-)

Sinead never used to sing a lot about Ireland. Though she had a song that
is called "Irish ways & Irish Laws", and of course her more famous one:
"famine", in which she blame the Irish people itself for all his miseries!!!

About England there is "black boys on mopeds" but also a quite new song
which is call "Empire". I don't know much about it, but in this song she
seems to compare England to a Vampire that loves to suck the blood of others.

Anyway, besides the songs themselves, Sinead had views that she expressed
elsewhere. In the subject the IRA, she was one of the few Irish V.I.P.s who
dared to attack them during their terror acts in 1993-94. She also attacked
the Irish Government in the famous Abortion issue. I believe, (I'm not sure
so), that in her way, Sinead contributed a lot to the (what used to be
till last week) peace in Ireland.

About the last terror act in London. Sinead is probably not happy at all
from it. Maybe she'll say something about it, but I dought it. She as much
more "burning" issue to concern. (She is in her 6-9th month of pregnancy as
you probably know)

I'd say it was... maybe not for solo-artists, but female fronted rock

The Cranberries new album may be released in May...

Excuse me? I thought that "Famine" put the blame of the famine on the
English, stating that all of the food was shipped out to England under
armed guard while the Irish starved. She blames the behavior of the Irish
(drug abuse, child abuse, terrorism) on "post-traumatic stress disorder."

Charles
P.S. Anyone know where to locate a Mac version of the "handwriting" font
from Sinead's first 3 albums?

Yes, the first time she Sinead stated those opinions in public was in an
Interview with Q magazine. She believes it is wrong to call the failure
in the potato crop a famine, because it never would have been a famine
hadnt it been for the English transporting all the other food out
of the country. (The shipping lists are appearantly still available for
everyone to see)
In the beginning oh her career she expressed support for the IRA,
although she didnt like what they were doing, she thought it
somewhat necessary. She also performed at "Troops out" -concerts in
Ireland. Later she admitted having been influenced by Fatchna
O Cellaigh, her manager. A time ago she was quoted in the papers for
having supported the IRA, when in fact all she did was talk about
forgiveness, that the IRA bobmbers were not evil but battered children.

At the time when "Peace together" was recorded and the peace-prosess was
going on, there was a peace-demonstration in Dublin (led by a housewife)
where Sinead sang for the crowd, "make me a channel of your peace". (She
also performed the song for Rabin, Peres and Arafat under the Nobel Prize
concert in Oslo). It seems she is quite involved in this, and she seems
to stress understanding, "working through the issues"and forgiveness
instead of just blind, raging rebellion in another way then earlier, much
in parallell with her own personal life.

Hi all,

Just wanted to put my two cents in about "the famine". Sineads comments
are heartfelt and understandable, but not totally correct. The english
did ship food out under guards.. but that was only part of the problem.

In the mid-1840's ireland was a very rural and non-industrialized country.
Its major crops were potatoes (the food stuffs) and some grains. The
irish people never planted other crops to compensate for the potatoe
blight which struck in late 1846. Because of the weather and lack of
a good fungicide, the potatoe blight spread very rapidly and persisted
for over 6 years.

Other problems included the growing of grains and barley which were used
as a monetary system to pay rents on land. Of course these lands were
owned often by absentee-english landlords who didn't lower rents during
the famine.

But the english did try to provide relief, they set up food depots and
soup-kitchens, tried several work programs like the US had during the
depression.... and several other countries (US, France, Spain) did give
some support or take in those who fled the famine.

The famine and its effects are very complex and have determined the course
of irish events today. While the english did export food out of the country,
they also tried to help.

This is just my humble opinion and if you want
to flame me feel free, but please send it to me directly so we don't waste
traffic on JITR. All my information is from several book which i'd be glad
to give out the titles and authors.. they are excellent books on irish
history.

p.s. And for those who don't think 1995 was a good year for female artists:
     Alanis Morisette
     Sophie B. Hawkins
     Heather Nova
     Jewel
     Natalie Merchant
Tori Amos (ok this is 1996 release, but a darn good CD!)
     Joan Osborne
     Bjork

     These may be 1994/1995 releases:
     Belly
     Milla
     Liz Phair
     Throwing Muses
     Veruca Salt

Just more of my humble opinion! :)

Hello,

And Yesterdays JITR-list a great start of the day....wow, it really lived
yesterday. And that's why I prefer the daily-digest above direct mail. All
interesting comes at once to my computer, when I'm waking up with a cup of
coffee.

She has probably no E-mail adress or it's one of the biggest secrets of
Internet :-)

I have the promo ordered twice from the USA I even don't know wether it's
available here in Europe. It's a promo containing all the hits, though I
doubt wether it will really release. It's probably just a DJ-promo
It's catalogue nr is; DPRO-19973
BTW; you could also find this info on my WWW-page !

Last year she said she would release an album in the beginning of 1996, but
probably she wasn't pregnant when she said that....

Seems you like that song Empire huh ? :-)
It's also one of my favorites !
BTW; I do think there's so much more about Ireland but then in a more
abstract way about it.

Again; I think the child is already born, she was already pregnant during
Lollapalooza in June 96, that's 9 months ago. And probably she was already
pregnant for some weeks during Lollapalooza, otherwise she probably didn't
need to quit. So that means the child is already born !

This is no font, even not for windows, the ones you see on all the sineaf
WWW-pages are all ripp-outs from a cd-booklets done by for example Photo-paint.

It's a songs sinead did together with Bomb The Bass, you can find it on
their album called Clear.
BTW; this song is also on the 4 Sinead-tapes which where via this list.....
And also the info about this song is findable on my www-page.

There's an error on my www-page, when you downloaded the zipped version of
the discography and open it in Word it says that it's dated dec.29th 1995....
This is wrong, it's already updated till february 14th 1996, I just forgot
to change the date.
Also I've added a zipped-file containing ALL lyrics, it's just 44kB.

This all has been changed just a minute ago !

For anyone interested in the Famine and its effects (I hope this is not too
divergent from the subject of Sinead), a book that I found very informative
and interesting is "Paddy's Lament". I do not rememder the author's name.

Does Sinead get into early Celtic (not necessarily Irish) subjects or lore
very much? This is another interest of mine.

Thanks...

(The list became alive lately... if this will continue I will have to
change to digest mode too...)

About Famine
------------
I think that the main issue here is the Irish People, and not the English.
True, Sinead blames England for the responsibility for the famine in Ireland
and the lost of about 1 million of the Irish People ("Through deaths on
land or on ships of emigration (to the US of A)"). But Sinead blames the
Irish people for the ruin of its culture. She blames the leadership for
taking bribe from the English and in return they didn't teach the children
Irish. It is not England's fault that the Irish People suffers from child
abuse, drugs, old men in the pubs, etc... but the Irish People itself.

This is why the song begins with a Jewish melody. Sinead wants to say, I
believe: unlike the Jewish People, the Irish People DIDN'T manage to hold
its tradition, "...and this is what I think is still hurting me".

...and now only Enya knows Irish.... (just kidding).

About "Empire"
--------------
Great hit indeed. Marcel and others, what I really want to do is who are
"Bomb the Bass", and, why Sinead, at 1995, compares England to a vampire ??!!

Bye,,

Yoav.
