I just caught a bit of a commercial for a special on much music about the
cd to be shown on december 10th. The announcer said,"New videos by..."
but sinead wasn't one of those aritsts, so maybe she won't even be in the
special?! :-( Anyway, thought you mm viewers might want to know just in
case she does make an appearance... Btw, sorry, but i don't know what
time it's on.

If it's the same special they showed on MTV then there will be no mention
of Sinead. They did mention Ireland and played some Cranberries but no
Sinead at all.

I have an interesting question:

In her song, "A red football", Sinead describes a poor crocodile in dublin
zoo.

Do any of you know if this crocodile really exists?

In the middle of the mix-version on the "You made me the thief of your
heart"-single, there`s a prayer/recitation that starts like this: "From
the point of light within the heart of God, let light stream forth into
the hearts of men..." I think it creates a powerful effect when recited in
the middle of that song, and I would like to know where it comes from
and what the background is for using it in that context. Does anyone
know?

Anne :)

Hello,

Untill now I found out of the following recordings of her concerts.

Utrecht Holland march 1988
Nijmegen Holland 17-march-88 (incomplete)
Glastonbury June 1995 (incomplete)
Rotterdam Holland 30 okt. 1990
The Hammersmith Odeon, April 24th 1990 (complete on cd-bootleg)
Paradise Rock Club Boston, 1988 (radio broadcast)
Pinkpop festival Holland june 5th 1995 (almost complete tv recording)
RFH London 26.8.95

and a concert from 1990 complete on cd-bootleg (Lion in the Cage) without
mentioning date and venue.

If someone has more lemme know, even if you don't wanna trade, cause then I
can add it to the discography.

If you know some dates and venue where she did a concert without knowing of
a recording also lemme know. I wanna make a complete list.

Last night i got a change to listen to Sinead duet with the Chieftans.

Amazing.

Her voice sounds different from the one she used on universal mother.
It's strong - not whispery and it almost has a childlike aspect to it.

I love the first song on the cd.

The other performers well. They were ok.

But sinead...

Question:

Do you think Sinead should do a quick recording of traditional Celtic
music?

I think that would be beautiful. Her voice on The Foggy Dew (or whatever
it's called) is spellbinding.

Traditional music is just so "glad".

Hmmm.... no, I don't think it would be a very good idea... And it would not
sell much, like the Am I not Your Girl -album.... I, like most of the
people I know, like her 2 first albums more than the others... But
anyway, I think Sinead would not make that traditional music any worse
than it is... quite the opposite. :) And yes, I like the Sinead's songs on
the Chieftains album. But the rest of the album is crap, if you ask me.

I heard a interview with her on the radio after the release of
"Am I not your girl, where people all over Europe phoned in to ask
questions. One of the callers asked if she planned to make a record with
old Irish traditional music in the future, and she responded "Yes,
definitely, all acapella songs, hopefully"
She might well have changed her mind, but I think that would be a good idea.
I think the version she does of " Irish Ways and Irish laws" is beautiful.
She brings just the right amount of Pain, Passion and Poetry into
the old Irish suppression songs (and love ballads as well)

Yes, why not? :-) BTW, she mentioned in an interview not long ago that
she is thinking about doing an album of traditional Irish songs.

So do i like her first two albums more than the others but the others
are valid artistically.

I don't think that Sinead at this point cares whether her albums sell
lots of copies.

Does anyone know if she still does?

It would be nice if she just did a quick live cd.
(for christmas even)

That would be a very interesting concert.

Spellbinding indeed.

I've seen a photograph of Dolores o'Riardan, the singer of Craneberries,

in one of the bullshit magazines we have in france, where you can learn
for instance that Kate Moss and Johnny Depp are about to separate.
As someone already said, it's amazing how she looks like Sinead now( Dolores not
Kate). And the way she sings too is close to Sinead's, isn't it.Or is it the
natural Irish way to sing? I suspect she manages to look and sing like Sinead...
Yet I'm not against it for I think Sinead is an example to follow, in the field
of music at least. I wonder whether Sinead likes it or not...Does anybody know
if they are friends or something? A duet would maybe be great...

Concerning the cover tape, Todd I will send a bit later because there are
currently mailing problems in France...

ciao, cyrille.

Has anyone seen a film 'The Ghosts of Oxford Street'? Sinead's supposed
to appear in it as a nun, according to Smash Hits magazine... (Which
also says that Sinead is a pixie and lives at the bottom of your garden...)

*snip*

I'm not sure I can agree with the statement that Sinead is an example to
follow in the music industry? Don't get me wrong...I think Sinead is
AMAZINGLY talented and she without argument has one of the most beautiful
voices in the industry however, as we all know she pulled some public stunts
that could have cost her her career. Sinead offended alot of people, nations
and religions in the past. Some of them fans, some of them potential fans.
Granted, she said what she felt needed saying.

The amazing thing is that she has use of a medium thats capable of reaching
hundreds of thousands of people and certainly shes capable of expressing her
thoughts and views in song. People would listen and they wouldn't be so quick
to go on the defensive, some might even see her point of view....know what I
mean?

Not to compare Sinead to madonna, BUT......Madonna is as much of a business
women as she is performer. Madonnas tactic is shock value, yet she seems
careful not to offend anyone on a personal level. Thats smart politics,
business and music.

As for Sinead and Dolores....I believe the two of them have met. I don't know
that they maintain contact with one another. As I understand it, Dolores was
somewhat overwhelmed with Sinead. I don't mean fascinated. I think Dolores
saw Sinead as a very bold and abrasive personality. Just what I heard.

I doubt Dolores is trying to be Sinead. I don't think Sinead was the first
women to shave her head....take a look at some photos from the punk era. The
fact that she's Irish, has another amazing voice AND shaved her head can only
be considered coincidence, she has the right.

Dolores has said that Sinead is one who made her want to be a rock/pop
star... which of course doesn't mean that she'd try to be Sinead.

Before Sinead first shaved her head, she had experimented with all kinds
of hair styles. she even sometimes had differently couloured hair almost
every day... And, come to think of it, Dolores has been changing her hair
color often too...

A few people have contacted me privately concerning the cover tape, so I
thought I could sort of sum up where things are right now for everyone.

I had hoped to get the tape back out to people by Christmas by collecting
all recordings by the last week of November, but no one sent any
recordings. It seems like in the four months since this project was
introduced, I'm the only one that's put anything on tape. My recording sits
here alone not doing anyone any good.

It looked as though the project was dead to me, but as I said a few people
were wondering... I propose a new cut off date of February 28, 1996. That
gives anyone who is interested a few months to get something together
without the worry of it during the holidays, cool? Whatever tapes I get by
then (my address is below) will be on the tape and that will be that.

I would rather address general questions here on jitr so everyone can
benifit, but if you have private concerns, by all means email me.

Hope this helps. I'm still looking forward to hearing everyone's tapes!

Todd

Marcel.

Here are some corrections to your "Live Concerts" list:

> May 26th 1988 USA, Austin, City Coliseum (recorded 25 minutes)

The month and day are correct, but the year of this show should be
1990, and not 1988.
^^^^
> October 30th 1990 Holland, Rotterdam, Ahoy (recorded)

Is the above show just a bootleg recording taken from the "Year Of
The Horse" video, or is it an independent recording made at the show
itself?

Also, here are two which you left out (I don't have either of these,
but they were listed in a bootleg catalogue I saw a while back):

> May 8th 1990 USA, Detroit (recorded)
> August 7th 1990 USA, Pittsburg, Star Lakes Amphitheater (recorded)

     Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

I'm a long-time Sinead collector and am looking to trade live
audio/video recordings of concerts as well as videos of TV appearances.
I've got a very extensive list and lots of rare stuff, so please email me if
you'd like to trade!!

I'm especially looking for some of Sinead's European TV appearances
(inc. the White Room, Jools Holland, Irish TV), that Jerusalem concert, and
a recording of her August 26 concert at the RFH, London.

        Thanks for your attention!!

July 4th 1995 George, Washington USA, Lollapalooza

Performed mostly songs from "Universal Mother" in addition
to a few tracks from The "Lion and the Cobra and
"I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", can not quite remember all
the titles she did sing off hand, but do remember that she was
as usaul, terrific. Also quite different than when last I seen
her. She seemed at least to me out of place with the rest ot the
artist that where on the agenda. (heavy metal and punk) I myself
was probably the oldest there. Fortunately I had to only survive
3 acts before Sinead appeared, I left after her performance so I
didn't have to endure "Hole" and the others.

By the way, maybe its me, but I see no resemblance between Sinead
and Dolores O'Riardan, even with her hair cut off, they broke the mode
after Sinead. Although I do like some of the Cranberries music.

Hello,

After some silence, here is a new one;

The Value Of Ignorance - Sinead O'Connor

you smile
and there's blood on your lips
your hands show again
what your mouth has kissed
now i know something
i did not know before
the thing that you've destroyed
is a thing you liked me for

all those nights with my arse in your face
and your words in my dreams
now i know what the value of ignorance means

the pain
in the sordidness
all the more choices
I thought you'd be the best

at least
i know something
about what's good and what hurts
and i'm glad that i loath it
you would have fucked me up worse

all those nights with my arse in your face
and your words in my dreams
now i know what the value of ignorance means

all those nights with my arse in your face
and your words in my dreams
now i know what the value of ignorance means

don't you ever lie to me again
because if you do
i will not be you friend

George, Washington is a small area located in the beautiful Columbia
Gorge which is basically located in the high desert, which means there
isn't nothing there except this big colisum with great acoustics for
music and hot as hell, (at least 105degf)

I don't know if it was recorded or what the exact venue was, i'll
check it out. I know was not able to take in a camera or recorder,
they searched everybody as they entered.

My 12" copy of famine is a uk version, Im sure if there was a US version
I would of seen it and got it.

Does anyone happen to have an address (either e-mail or postal) that I might
contact Sinead at? I have a few things that I've written that I would like
to pass along to her. Thanks...

Also, are there any recordings of the "Petit Poulet" song that Sinead
described in her on-line interview?

Here's my first shot at the lyrics to Anachie Gordon. Can anyone out
there take a crack at finishing them?

Thanks

Monty

Anachie Gordon

? Hearken his body (bonnie?)
There lives my love
My heart lies ?
And will not remove
It will not remove
Oh for all that I have done
Oh I never will forget me love Anachie
For Anachie Gordon he's bonnie and he's rough
He'd entice any woman that ever he saw
He'd entice any woman and so he has done me
Oh I never will forget me love Anachie

Down came her father and he's standing by the door
Saying Jeannie you're trying the tricks of a whore
You care nothing for a man who cares so very much for thee
You must marry Lord Sultan and leave Anachie
For Anachie Gordon he's barely but a man
Oh and though he may be pretty and work on his lands
Oh the Sultan's lands are broader and his towers they run high
You must marry Lord Sultan and leave Anachie

With Anachie Gordon I beg for my bread
And before I marry Sultan it's gone (gold?) to my head
With gold to my head and ???
And I'll die if I don't get me love Anachie
And you'll ? my parents to church you made me bring
But unto Lord Sultan I'll never bear son
To a son or a daughter I'll never bow my knee
And I'll die if I don't get my love Anachie

Jeannie was married and from church she was brought home
And she and her maidens so merry should have been
When she and her maidens so merry should have been
She went into her chamber and she cried all alone
Come to be now Jeannie, me honey and my sweet
For ?? my mistress it would be so sweet
Being mistress or Jeannie it's all the same to me
But in your bed Lord Sultan I never will lie
And down came her father and he spoke her with renown
Saying you that are her maidens go loosen up her gowns
But she fell down to the floor so close down by his knee
Saying Father ?? for love Anachie

Today Jeannie married was the day Jeannie died
And the day young Anachie came all untied(?)
And down her maidens all wringing of their hands
Saying Lord it's been so long you've been so long on the sand
Or so long on the sides(?) or so long upon the flun(?)
They have married your Jeannie and now she lies dead
You that are her maidens come take me by the hands
Take me to the chamber that ? she lies in
And he's kissed her cold lips 'til his heart has turned to stone
And he's dying in the chamber that his love, she lies in.

hello all!

I've got the Sinead O'Connor Homepage updated as of 12/12/95 and have added
more lyrics, chords, movies, etc. Let me know if anyone has more
information for the page or if you have any suggestions to make. I have some
old rolling stone interviews from 91-93 which include some new pictures
as well. They'll be up over XMAS holiday (i hope!).

Also, I've got some more items on my other music page, including some new
quicktime videos of bjork, elastica, and alanis ("borrowed" from the MTV
site!).

Let me know if you have any info, complaints, or suggestions! Thanks!

Not the Famine song, but the B-side contains the Fire On Babylon (M-beat
remix) with is a real house version of Fire on Babylon. Totally different to
all the previous versions !

I don't know about the 12", but what's on the CD is cool, and quite
different from the album version.

I'm not sure if anyone's answered this question yet or not, so I'll
plunge ahead. The remix is very different from the version on the
album. It's a major production. First of all, Sinead recorded the
track anew. Not many singers bother to record new vocals for a remix.
There's a different speech in the beginning about Irish music,
followed by a hummed intro to the rap. This melody is continued, and
the rap begins. I think the "Fiddler on the Roof" music is deleted
completely. The track runs about 7 minutes, and Sinead ends it with
the repeated strains of "forgiveness" as she did during her recent
concert appearances.

There's also a 4 minute version included. Definitely worthy of adding
to your Sinead collection, IMHO.

Sam

Saying Jeannie your trying the tricks of a whore
You care nothing for a man who cares so very much for thee
You must marry Lord Sultan and leave Anachie
For Anachie Gordon he's barely but a man
Although he may be pretty but where are his lands
O the Sultan's lands are broad and his towers they are high
You must marry Lord Sultan and leave Anachie

With Anachie Gordon I'd beg for my bread
And before I'll marry Sultan it's gold to me head
With gold to me head and gowns fringed to the knee
And I'll die if I don't get my love Anachie
And you that are my parents to church you may me bring
But unto Lord Sultan I'll never bear a son
To a son or a daughter I'll never bow my knee
And I'll die if I don't get my love Anachie

Jeannie was married and from church she was brought home
And when she and her maidens so merry should have been
When she and her maidens so merry should have been
She went into her chamber, she cries all alone

Come to bed now Jeannie me honey and my sweet
For to style you my mistress it would be so sweet
Be it mistress or Jeannie it's all the same to me
But in your bed Lord Sultan I never will lie
And down came her father and he's spoken with reknown
Saying you that are her maidens go loosen off her gowns
But she fell down to the floor so close down by his knee
Saying father look I'm dying for me love Anachie

The day Jeannie married was the day that Jeannie died
And the day that young Anachie came home on the tide
And down came her maidens all ringing of their hands
Saying o it's been so long you've spent so long on the sands
O so long on the sands, so long on the flood
They have married your Jeannie and now she lies dead.

You that are her maidens go lead me by the hand
And take me to the chamber that me love she lies in
And he's kissed her cold lips 'til his heart has turned to stone
And he's died in the chamber that his love she lies in.

Not the Famine song, but the B-side contains the Fire On Babylon (M-beat
remix) with is a real house version of Fire on Babylon. Totally different to
all the previous versions !

I take it that the vinyl version is different from the UK cd single I
saw. It's got a wolf on the cover and the disc is green. It has two
versions of "Famine" and one of "All Apologies, which is probably the
album cut.

The pic on the vinyl and the UK cd are the same (except for size). It is
just the mixes or trks that are different.

I don't think that she really PROMISED anything. Well, I read an online
interview with SINEAD (on the internet!) that was done in the summer this
year, and in that interview she did promise that she is working on new
material.

But, I myself not very optimistic. The unbelievable days of "The Lion &
The Cobra" and "I don't need what I haven't Got" are over. "Universal
Mother" was a good album, but I am sorry to say that it was not Sinead there.
At least not the Sinead we knew from her first two albums. I afraid to say
that we will no longer be able to get the Sinead who tears the Pope's
picture and get bood in a concert. Even if she makes a new album, what will
it be sounds like?

Someone asked not a long time ago whether our beloved Sinead has access
to the internet and where we can reach her. This follows to a wider
question: Do v.i.p's know what is going on here, in the great world of
internet? Do Sinead, Bjork, Tori and others know what we say about them
through out the years?

Well, in Israel, the internet mania is everywhere, and it doesn't skip
the performers and actors either. True, Israel is a very developed
country concerning Hi-Tech & computers but so is UK. And even in Dublin
many people have access to the internet.

So why not Sinead? v.i.p's have trouble leaving their houses u know...
so the internet is a good hobby for people who stay at home a lot.
Further more, there is not a single person in the whole world who
doesn't want to know what the crowd thinks of him.

So I am quite sure that Sinead has access to the Internet, just like
Bjork, Tori and all others. Sinead did visited the internet once, in
the online press conference. She wrote there that she is very scared
from this new way of communication but I'm sure that she also recognized
then its power and wideness.

So Sinead probably already visited "her" nice Home Page and maybe even
read some of the jitr archive files.

Just a minute? Maybe she even subscribes to this List under a fake name?

Who knows....

Well, like many of you,
I visited the archived and download most of Sinead's pics.

Some of them are really lovely, but still - there are many pics that are
missing, for example, all the pictures from "Universal Mother", and also
a GOOD picture of tLaTC's cover (A beautiful picture of Sinead screaming).

Well, I'm going to scan the pictures and I am ready to transfer it to the
archives. SO wait for the results please. It will take some days...

Ray cokes' "Most Wosted" is finally over. Well, I must admit that the
program had its moments, but I can't recall one show that I was able to see
from the beginning to its end.

Well, anyway, in the last show, the producer showed selected clips from
the "Most wanted" shows. And guess what! there was a scene where Ray Cokes
immitated Sinead (!!), by wearing a bald wig and singing NC2U while two
(very big) tears falling on his cheeks.

Have you heard her duet with the chieftans?
Sinead still has the touch.
(Universal mother is a very good album. For while there i liked
the album but didn't appreciate it. It has since grown on me.
Has anyone else had the same reaction?)

One of the things that i love about Sinead is that she is
always coming up with new sounds. My favourite album prob.
is her first album but if she repeated herself i don't think
i would be impressed.

On the side of Sinead that tears aprt popes...
I don't think that side of Sinead want to expressed herself.
It seems to me Sinead is going through a healing process right now and
universal mother was an expression of this (very raw album).
I don't think she has abandoned her tempest side -- mearly put aside
for a while to figure herself out.

I could be wrong though.

New aged Sinead anyone ? :-)

She could do a duet with Enya and clanad! :-)

Do any readers know of any others?

Actually I have not been able to find any at all, but not through lack of
trying - I just never see them on bootleg listings.

If anyone has any for sale, knows of a source or can augment the list please
let me know.

Furthermore, on the subject or Sinead losing it, this is not a rebuff to you
Richard but I have a view on this I would like to express. Sinead can't
remain angry forever. Perhaps as she exorcises some ghosts some things in
her psyche have changed forever. I can only extoll any readers to read the
very moving interview with Sinead in Q Magazine from earlier this year in
which she discusses her abused childhood and her attempted suicide.

I really like Universal Mother and in fact also Am I Not Your Girl which
doesn't seem to have been a big seller. Sinead's voice is always very
stimulating and even cathartic to listen to no matter what the musical
setting. I presume Sinead does things because she wants to and not because a
record company is forcing her that way and surely she shouldn't have to
pretend to have fire in her belly just to satisfy a section of her audience
if that isn't the way she feels or what she want to express.

Cheers!

Marcel

Again; After Sinead preformed here in Holland, she had a little interview
with the television guy on tv, in this interview she told this guy that the
next album will be released in the beginning of next year !

This was the only show on MTV which I COULD see from the beginning till the
end :-)
And also it was the show which mostly got the scoop by playing the newest

It was !! This was the Sinead of the 90s, we can't stand still in the 80s
where Sinead was just in the beginning of her 20s !! In the years she grew,
and so did her music.

>One of the things that i love about Sinead is that she is

I don't like repeatings !! If I wanted that I didn't have to buy more then 1
album. That's why I just have one album of The Cure, Sade, U2, etc etc.
They're great !! But they keep on repeating the "success formula" !
I also thought the first or second was the best she did, but the more I
listen to her last one, the more I liked it. And now Universal Mother is
IMHO the best she did so far.
Much more variety, better lyrics, better stories etc.
I like her first and second, and Universal mother is IMHO the best. And the
thirth ???
IMHO I forgive her this misstake....like everyone she also makes misstakes :-)

>She could do a duet with Enya and clanad! :-)

If she would do that, I will sell all I have of her !
For me that's the same thing as doing a duet with Celine Dion, Whitney
Houston or Sheena Easton !! IIIIEEEEHHHHKKKK.... (sorry fans of them)
BTW; Enya already did something with Sinead so that would be repeating.

I would like to see her doing a duet with Frank Sinatra, the pope himself,
Prince, Margareth Tatcher or singing a acapella version of The Star
Sprangled Banner. That would be a great cd ! Just like I know her...doing
things she would never ever think of before.

God, I love Universal Mother. It gave me the same feeling I had when I heard
Lion And The Cobra for the first time. What makes each of Sinead's albums so
great for me is that they are reflections of her honest personal experience.
I'm a huge fan because she is nothing but true to herself and her heart.
That just doesn't seem to exist the same way anywhere else. I also think as
she changes the albums change. I feel like I see her growing into an amazing
woman. Lucky for me I can appreciate the personal experiences of hers as
ones that are close to my own. I'm proud of who I am and how I am loudspoken
about politics and spirituality. Aside from the tremendous gift she has to
express herself musically I feel like I have an ally out there fighting for
the things I believe in too. It's time for all of us to tear up our own
"pictures of the pope". She is right about the world changing and she is one
of the few not afraid to express it. Her approach may change, so may her
style, but I see the honesty staying. And that I feel is what makes her so
great.

Someone asked for an e-mail address for Sinead.

I was wondering if anyone really has one, or else has anyone tried writng
and did they ever get a reply?

I am also curious as to people's experiences of meeting Sinead as obviously
she seems so interesting, but is she shy? What has she been like when you
asked for an autograph? If that bores some of you, sorry, but the bandwidth
on jitr is fairly slim and this may stimulate some input (or perhaps as I
have only joined recently this has all gone before?).

I have had the opportunity to meet quite a few artists and most were
fantastic. Greatest *conquests* were Peter Gabriel and James Brown. Wet
fish award goes to Jim Kerr I'm afraid. Artists I would most like to meet
incluse Sinead, Kate Bush, Nona Hendrix, Bill Nelson, Robert Fripp & Peter
Hammill.

While on a roll, what do guys (Ok, girls as well) think of Sinead's sex
appeal? I don't mean that in a smutty or degrading sexist way, but I find
she has an incredible sensuality and when I see her pictured (with some
hair) I keep thinking she is incredibly beautiful, it is almost as if she
kept to hair short so that her looks wouldn't be an issue. I don't think
I'm the only one who thinks this way.

If this is all too silly, hey, it's almost Xmas. What could be sillier
than all the bumpf surrounding that?

Marcel

As I've said. UM is readlly a great album. In fact, the first time I really
"felt in love with" sinead was in her beautiful performance in the Sultan
Pool in Jerusalem. In that performance she sand mainly songs from UM, and
her voice was really great. Greater than ever.

But... I did expect more from Sinead. Remember: since her third album she
did and say so many things that doesn't connect directly to music:

- She tore the Pope picture in SNL.
- She was booed in a concert and left it crying (poor sinead)
- She protected the rapist Tyson.
- She protested the abortion incident in Ireland.

... and much more

And where all of that in UM? I did expect from her to tell her fans and
followers about all her incidents. Who tell us: "... I'll live by my own
policies..."? It was Sinead. And now, in Universal Mother she just changed
her ways and became the "prayer of Ireland" !!!

Come on, Sinead.

So it seems to me that Sinead is not as she used to be. True, she has a great
voice, and a great performance and I just like her. But Dolores has great
voice too, and so does Tori Amos. Sinead always had more: she used to be
a profit. She used to tell us things. She used to tell us to live by OUR
policies and now she herself changed her ways...
