I'd like to turn you on to a new "umbrella" Internet service that will allow you
to showcase yourself to the world for only $50 a month -- all part of a new
concept that could drive millions of music fans to see, hear, and be a part of
your music. This new site will be a first of its kind, sort of a
"get-it-all-cybermall" for musicians and fans alike: Professional services,
technicians, publishers, fan clubs*, merchandisers, etc.

Could I send you an overview of what I'm talking about? If you would, please
e-mail me back at "garyg@vmarketing.com".

Regards,
Gary Guthrie, President
Edinborough Rand Inc.

=o= I've picked up the Famine single, which is an import from
the UK. It's got two melodic versions of "Famine" and the
same version of "All Apologies" that's on the album.

Hi Everyone. First, thanks to everyone who participated in my import CD an=

for something in particular, please let me know. I might have it available=

All singles are in perfect condition. If you need specific information on=

It was way too much work. I will let you know how your bid stands in relat=

hi all -

Sorry to have to do this, but maybe it'll save someone else. Until
further notice, trade with

amy o'brien
email: OBRIENA+aWILMA%HS&E@mcimail.com
snail mail: rochester, new york, usa

at your own risk!

I received an email from her 2 months ago saying that she had received
the tape i made for her and thanking me but that her tape would take a
while. Since then i've sent her numerous emails and she responded to the
first 2 saying that she'd send the tape off in a week - that was 6 weeks
ago. Anyway, my last few emails have gone unanswered and so it looks
like i've been stiffed. I checked and she's still subscribed to jitr, so
she'll see this message along with the rest of you. Hope this helps
someone else and thanks to all the honest people on the list who've
traded with me!

still believing people are basically good -

jenny.

my question is about the words to 'i am streached on your grave'. i follow
most of it and it makes sense to me, but what i always wonder about when i
hear it is what is meant by:

and if your hands were in mine
i'd be sure we'd not sever
                     my apple tree, my brightness

i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what this passage means; what the
apple tree represents in this context. i'd be happy to hear any insights.
thanks. m.

it's a strange thing, but right now one of
my most prized possessions is the piece of
tape that came off the back of sinead's
set list at the indianapolis lolapolooza.
i would have liked to have had the actual
list, but some shitbag security guard was
actually holding his own little auction
for it and i refused to take part in any
scheme where someone who didn't give a
shit about her was making money off Sinead's
name and popularity. (just incase you all
are wondering, the list went for $10, and
i would like to thank the fellow who was kind
enough to give the tape away for free.)
peace. -the yard monkey.

Hi-
Since the list seems so dead today, I thought I'd mention a little project
I've got wind of. I belong to the Sugarcubes list too and there is a
project going on that maybe we could do here. The idea is to set up a tape
tree of cover versions created by people on the list. Now, some people are
in bands, some people may play an instrument or are learning one, and some
people can't play anything at all. Think of it - the possibilities are
endless. You could hum a song against a backround of your friends blaying
water glasses with chop-sticks. The point is it just doesn't matter too
much and to have fun. If several people do it, we get a full tape of
everyone's efforts and dupe it off for each other. Sound like fun? Who will
be the first to reserve a song? It might be fun to mention why you've
chosen it.

Or, I could just screw off.
Xoxo - Todd

It's good fun and you get interesting results.

I'm in. I'll do "I'm stretched on your grave"

About this idea of distributing cover versions:

Although I'm normally quite a MIDI freak & so, I must say I'm quite busy
right now, so I don't think I'll be able to send my own one.

But it would be very interesting to hear other people's!

Go on with the project. I'll help as soon as I can.

Hmm, sounds like fun, but I don't think I have enough time for it...
Basically I could do the most weird instrumental synth-pop version of
some song that you'd ever hear :) - I'm not much of a musician really...
using my PCs 8-bit sound card... but I think it would take too much time,
unless you'd really like to hear something that sounds like it was made
in five minutes without even trying to make it good...

OK Dave, I got ya down.
Hi I'm Todd and I'm the co ordinator of the Sinead cover-tape.
Unfortunately my server crashed over the weekend and is just now getting to
it's feet so I may have missed some dibbs on songs.

Dave makes three with "Aquaintence" The other two that are taken (to my
knowledge) are: "Value of Ignorance" (me) and "Stretched on your Grave"
(Caroline).

If you have any questions about how this is being handled, let me know.
I'm a novice and sort of figuring it out as I go. Unless someone has better
ideas, this is my plan: Record your track and send it to me snail. I'll
compile the tracks and make dupes for all those that contributed. Does that
sound right? (Caroline?)

Hope more people JUMP IN!

"Everybody has really got behind the whole project. Pop music seems very

The project was conceived by Tony Crean of Go! Discs with musics PR's Terri

A trip to the used record store netted me a copy of a CD single for
"Thank You For Hearing Me". It's got three versions on it, but I'll be
damned if I can tell them apart:
	Radio Edit 4:35
	Edit	5:24
	Album Version	6:30

The reason I bring this up is because it's labled "For Promotional Use
Only. Not For Sale." so you can add it to your discographies if it's not
already on there.

I also considered buying Roger Waters' live "The Wall" 2 CD album (from that
Berlin Wall concert in 1990) but the price put me off temporarily. Sinead
sings "Mother" and Van Morrison, another favorite of mine, does another
cover. Anyone with opinions on this album?

As I told you before, I won't be able to contribute because of a little
extra work that's slaving me to my chair :(

However, I would like very much to get a copy of the tape!!!

It would be no problem if I have to s-mail you the money for the blank tape
(or maybe just a blank tape, hehe). But you have to take into consideration
that our mail services (i mean s-mail) are VERY bad down here, so please
allow for a couple of weeks' time...

Hey, maybe there are others out there who can't contribute but would like
to hear the tape....

Go on with the project! If I ever get a little spare time, I'll send in smthg.

Thanks very much,
Nico.

I will respond to THREE notes from the digest:
1):I also considered buying Roger Waters' live "The Wall" 2 CD album (from that
>Berlin Wall concert in 1990) but the price put me off temporarily. Sinead

I bought this CD for a VERY low price about a year ago and would not have
purchased it had it not been so cheap. For those that don't know, I'm not
going to give full track listing (E-mail me privately) but to give you an
idea:
Scorpions: In The Flesh (actually it sounds like just the vocalist and the
original Floyd track)
Ute Lemper: The Thin Ice
Cyndi Lauper: Another Brick in The Wall, Pt. 2
Joni Mitchell: Goodbye Blue Sky
Bryan Adams: Young Lust
Plus contributions from the likes of Jerry Hall (for god's sake), Paul
Carrick, Thomas Dolby, Tim Curry, Albert Finney, and a repulsively pompous
dose of Waters.
And of course, our Sinead (with THE BAND no less) doing "Mother". This is
the only track on this two disc set worth a good goddamn. So...I'm glad to
have it, but I wouldn't throw down many yen for it.

2):>> sinead will be on the _HELP_ charity sampler with a new song called "ode
>> to billy joe". the sampler will be relesed on the 9th of september. i've

>Billy Joe? Not the Billie Joe of Green Day, by any chance? :)

Heavens NO!! This is an old embarrassing track from early 70's Americana
(as most of the tracks on this new compilation seem to be, suprise suprise)
As I remember, it was a hit as the theme song for a popular movie of the
time. I'm excited to hear Sinead-baby crack away at it!!

3):As I told you before, I won't be able to contribute because of a little

Here's the deal: This is my first time doing this, and I could be acting
the complete bastard on this, but after rolling it around a bit, this: I
feel the pay-off for putting in a bit of time recording a track yourself is
to be able to hear what everybody else did and to have your contribution
included. I don't think it would be fair to dupe off copies for those who
haven't participated. (Now- what others do with their copies after they get
them is their own business;>) But please note, and I want to make this very
clear - I expect this project to be an opportunity for some of you to show
off your musical prowess (certainly not me) but I figure most of it will be
people who love the music having a good time with it for their own sakes
and sakes of others who share that love. BE CREATIVE!! If you don't have
much time, don't spend much time. I think I wrote to someone privately
something along the lines of "Hum the melody of JACKIE over the sound of
you tapping away with chopsticks on a running dishwasher with the dog
barking madly in the background" (someone please do this!!) I'm not looking
to sign a band (as if I could) I just wanted to present a fun, interactive
project I thought we could all take part in.
Now - I'm totally open to other opinions. Change my mind if you can, but
this is the way I'm feeling now. 'Nuff said. - Todd

Depends on whether you like The Wall or not. I've got the CD, movie
soundtrack, live shows and Berlin version. I think they're all
great. So if you like The Wall, it's an "interesting diversion". I
don't think Waters' production of it in Berlin was all that good. It
was a (semi-)star-studded performance that comes off feeling like a
bunch of people singing the songs, not a coherent delivery with the
impact that can be had from the original album.
If all you want it for are the SO and VM songs on CD then buy it 'cuz
it's their only source. Those two songs are OK. Not especially
earth-moving songs by either one of them.

Monty

FWIW, it was Sinead's cover of "Mother" that brought her to me. As I
listened to my brand new Wall CD I had to stop and find out who was
singing with that VOICE! Needless to say I went out and started buying
Sinead CDs immediately after.
She doesn't do a particularly great version of "Mother", but the clarity
and beauty of her voice swept me away.

Presumably this is not a new song but a cover of the 1960's tragic
ballad which was a #1 hit (USA) for Bobbie Gentry? I can just imagine
Sinead singing this <snicker>. "...and some bad news from Choctaw
Ridge/Billy Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge..."

Yes, I am old enough to remember that one. It was one of those
songs that AM radio stations played 10 times a day for *months*.

The HELP disc sounds awesome... will this be released in the US as
well on 9 September?

Hello all you wonderful people. This is just to tell you Sinead's on
Muchmusic's Spotlight Today (friday) and tomorrow. Quite a bit of luck I
flipped through the TV thingee.

Gotta go set my VCR, she's on in...25 minutes.

Hello,

I do not know the nettique for posting my Sinead sales list in this group,
but I did get the thumbs up from 2 regular list members Marcel and
Roman. However, I just placed the sale list in the rec.music.marketplace
and alt.music.alternative newsgroups. If anyone can not access those
newsgroups, you may mail me privately and I will bounce you the list.

Just to list a couple of the items: Fire on Babylon, Thank you for
Hearing me, The Emperor's New Clothes, My special child, Mandinka, &
Heroine. Most of the items are promos.

Please email me for complete details.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I urgently need the lyrics
to "Just Call Me Joe" and "I want your hands on me". Why are these
the only lyrics from "The Lion and the Cobra"?

Also, if anyone has a compiled list of all the lyrics to "Am I not
your girl?" it would be very appreciated!

Thanx
jacques

They are not the only lyrics... Didn't Marcel write down quite a few more
lyrics than just those? Unfortunately I don't have them myself, so...
anyone care to help? I think there's some lyrics on the www pages, but I
don't remember the URL right now... wait, Yes I do have it here:
http://www.engr.ukans.edu/~jrussell/music/sinead/sinead.html

Ain't they in the CD booklet? I think they are in my CD's booklet, but I
don't currently have it here, so... check that home page, maybe they are
there.

The Irish music journal HotPress did a 2-part interview with Sinead at
her London home. Part 1 is in the 6 Sept issue and part 2 is to follow
in the next issue. There are some nice shots of Sinead smiling,
including the cover.

Oh yeah, I had almost forgotten that... but really, WEB pages can never

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the list, and I'm also a fairly new fan of Sinead, so I
was wondering if there is a FAQ that I could read before I start
asking 100s of questions that you have all heard before.
Also, does anyone know if Hotpress is available in the US? I cant
seem to find it, but that doesnt mean that it's not available here.
Thanks in advance for all you r help

Hello everybody,

I am quite new to this list, although I have been a fan of Sinead
for a few years. I collect her records, and a little more than
year ago, by sheer luck, I found the In Tua Nua single for Take My Hand,
the first Sinead song ever to be released on record.

Unfortunately Sinead is not present on this recording, although it was she
who wrote the lyrics and some of the melody. She did record it as a demo
together with In Tua Nua in 1983, but I am quite sure that version has
never been officially released.

Maybe you already have the lyrics to the song, I do not know since
I am quite new here, but I have written them down at the end of this
message, and I hope you will find them interesting. If anybody has
any questions, feel free to ask.

I wonder also if there is anybody who could help me to find the
latest issue of Hot Press, with the Sinead interview and her on the
cover. I would be most grateful.

Best wishes,
Stefan

TAKE MY HAND

Lonely man
Tired man
Play the blues
Sing while you have nothing to lose
Silver moon
Weeping moon
Cry for me
Show me your soul sympathy

You have done all you can
Live no more
Sigh as you walk through the door
Take my hand
Take my hand
Lie on sand
Rest on sand

Close your eyes
Slowly close
Go to sleep
Sleep while you've dreams to keep

You have meant all you can
Live no more
Sigh as you walk through the door
Take my hand
Take my hand
Lie on sand
Rest on sand

Windy shore
Crying
But don't cry no more

Isn't there a Copyright issue about publishing song lyrics without the
permission of the author?

It's not very fair on Sinead and may well be illegal.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! It may be illegal? Who cares! Putting some
lyrics on the mailing list, especially one as hard to find as those of
"Take my Hand", is not going to cause anyone to loose money. Some how I
don't think Sinead would want to sue anyone for posting any of her lyrics
here on the list.
Lighten up Katz.

i hope you don't mean that serious. marcel and me posted lot's of lyrics
on the list and nobody complained. the use of the list is to spread
information about sinead to the people who are interested in. we wouldn't
be able to send newspaper-articles, song-lyrics and things like that about
sinead anymore. is that what you want?

if we would publish them in a newspaper we would need the permission of
the author but this is just a mail-list. so if you'd post it to some of
your friends i don't think there is a need to ask the author.

> It's not very fair on Sinead and may well be illegal.

i don't think that sinead would care about that. have you ever read any
newsgroups or visited FTP-server on the net? they are full of lyrics.

well, at least *i* was happy to get "take my hand", so thanks to stefan!

This is my first attempt at this, just subscribed yesterday.
I have spent years trying to find anything I could about Sinead's
very first tape. I knew all the perticulars on it but was quite
sure the possability of ever getting the lyrics or even maybe a
copy of the tape was more than I could hope for. The games at
foot and I very much like to converse with anyone who could help
me obtain an copy. I have a very extensive library of Sineads
music etc.

Who Knows, I may yet be fortunate enough to get a copy of Sineads
Live at the Paradise live broadcast on WBCN-FM which as many know
was Sinead's first Boston appearance at the Paradise Rock Club.

Hello! Earth to Katz? Earth to Katz?
Hope you lighten up soon! Going through life with such a disposition must be
... how shall I put it? ... kind of anal retentive? :-)

I guess you should define (from a legal point of view, if that's your slant)
"publishing"? You'll have the answer to your question.

And Stefan, thanks for the post! I've never heard the song but the words are
something else!

Mike.

Hello,

I am really sorry if I have upset anybody by sending in the lyrics to
Take My Hand. It was not at all my intention to make anyone angry. I
thought it was OK to send in lyrics to the mailing list, since I have
seen other people do the same earlier on. Not mentioning all the home
pages for different artists containing the lyrics to their songs. I do
not think that all of them have written permissions. If what I wrote
is unfair to Sinead, I deeply regret what I have done.

If anybody has complaints, and it includes Philip Katz, please write
to me in person, and we could discuss it privately. I do not consider
myself a criminal, so I really do not want to have a public trial on
this mailing list.

Stefan

It is not illegal to give away those lyrics, as long as you don't want
money for it. Hell, everyone can get those lyrics by just listening to
the songs, and if someone writes them down, and lets someone else read
them then, that can't possibly be criminal. In fact, I believe Sinead
herself would only be pleased that someone who finds it difficult to
understand her vocals, can then read them, and that way also understand
them.

                    -----------------------------------

I'm putting up almost half of my Sinead O'Connor collection up for
sale. Since I'm a collector, all items are in great shape - any significant
flaws will be disclosed before a sale or trade is finalized.

Please make all bids in US funds. Postage will be included in any
orders over $30. Overseas orders over $50, and it will be covered as well.
Otherwise, I will let you know about the postage cost.

Bidding will begin today (September 16th), and will end on Saturday,
September the 30th. On Saturday the 23rd I will post all high bids to
this list . Then on the 28th and 29th I will give all bidders a chance
to up/finalize their offers. Finally on October 1st, I will get in touch
with those people with the highest bids.

As far as bids go, I am more interested in trade for releases from the
following artists (as well as all side-projects, aliases, remixes of other
bands' stuff):

THE APHEX TWIN, ATOM HEART/LASSIGUE BENDTHAUS, COIL, DEPTH CHARGE,
GOD IS MY CO-PILOT, GREATER THAN ONE, HIS NAME IS ALIVE,
LOCUST, MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO/PERENNIAL DIVIDE, and SKINNY PUPPY.

If you have other stuff you want to trade, it won't hurt to ask!

from MTV-News:

Pasers by couldn't believe their eyes in Dublin, Ireland when
controversial singer Sinead O'Connor took to the streets and asked them
for money.

However, it was all in a good cause as she was collecting for AWARE, the
organisation that helps fight depression. Dressed all in black and wearing
a baseball cap, O'Connor stood at the top of busy Grafton Street for
several hours, collection box in hand. Sinead who has suffered from
depression in the past and is expecting a baby in February revealed she
intends to bring up the child in London where she has lived for the last
10 years.

Didn't she live in the US for a while? I thought that she moved back to

Hello,

Thanx STEFAN for the lyrics of Take My Hand. I like it, though I don't think
the song is really good (have it on tape), but collectiong every thing means
also collecting this song !! The lyrics are good.

Don't care about copyright or whatever :-)
Nobody will get you on that (they didn't with me :-) and I already posted
about 40 or so, and will start posting again in a few days.
I just came back from my holliday in Turkey. So it takes some days to read
and answer al the E-mail and install Windows 95. But when that all is done I
will start posting and transcribing again.

You lyrics helped me, saves me one evening of work.

There are more (if not all), if you still don't have them let me know.....
even if you already have then also let me know, cause mine are better
(corrected)....the the ones you can find on the www-pages.

Only Just Call Me Joe isn't complete at all......
The second part is still incomplete and very difficult.

Hello everyone,

I recently heard on MTV that it is confirmed that Sinead will
contribute to a compilation album featuring female artists, called
Ain't Nothing But A She. It is said to be released some time early
next year.

Besides, is there anybody who could help me to find the recent Hot
Press issue, with Sinead on the cover? I would be really, really
grateful. Of course I would pay for all expenses.

All the best,
Stefan

Hello,

Listen to Funky Drummer Bonus Beat Reprise (2.54) from James Brown.
You can find this song on a remix cd called The Jungle Groove (polydor, 829
624-2)

If you hear that you hear exactly the instrumental beat-version of "I Am
streched on your grave". Only this is the original version of the music.

On Saturday I acquired a promo copy of the current single. For the

discographers, the tracks are:

		1. "famine" - John Reynolds 7" edit
		2. All Apologies

		Chrysalis CDENYDJ663

Of particular interest to JITR subscribers is that on the back is a
sticker which says:

"Sinead O'Connor releases her double A-Side single "Famine" and her
interpretation of Nirvana's classic "All Apologies" on 14 August. Sinead is

A number of people have replied to my comment about Copyright. I have

extracted some of the points below.

Firstly and most importantly : Copyright has little to do with "making
money" (as someone suggested) and *everything* to do with the right of the
artist (or the author of the work) to have control over the distribution of
their works, whether that is the lyrics or the music itself.

> Don't care about copyright or whatever :-)
> Nobody will get you on that (they didn't with me :-) and I already posted
> about 40 or so, and will start posting again in a few days.

Enforcement of copyright laws is not trivial when dealing with an
international mailing list and I wasn't suggesting that anyone who posts
lyrics is going to get a visit from the boys in blue, but I do feel that
they show a lack of respect for Sinead's personal rights to have control
over her works.

Yes, you can post lyrics here and get away with it. You can probably
download child pornography or tell everyone how to make a bomb at home and
get away with it. The Internet is not really regulated yet, and the
various law enforcement agencies don't know how to deal with it. But just
because you *can* get away with something doesn't mean that it is legally
or morally right to do so.

> It is not illegal to give away those lyrics, as long as you don't want
> money for it.

This is simply not true under the copyright laws of most countries.

> Hell, everyone can get those lyrics by just listening to the songs, and
> if someone writes them down, and lets someone else read them then, that
> can't possibly be criminal.

You cannot compare this with publishing them in a worldwide, public forum.

> In fact, I believe Sinead herself would only be pleased that someone who
> finds it difficult to understand her vocals, can then read them, and
> that way also understand them.

If this were true, don't you think she would publish a disclaimer to that
effect on her albums? Can I say "I believe that you would be happy for me
to rob you" and then use that as justification for breaking in to your
house?

> we wouldn't be able to send newspaper-articles, song-lyrics and things
> like that about sinead anymore. is that what you want?

What *I* want is immaterial. It's a case of respecting other people's
intellectual property rights. If someone writes a newspaper article or song
lyric, they have a right to decide what the distribution of that work is.
And publishing it in JITR is an infringement of those rights.

> if we would publish them in a newspaper we would need the permission of
> the author but this is just a mail-list. so if you'd post it to some of
> your friends i don't think there is a need to ask the author.

This (again) is simply not true. JITR is a public forum. Anyone can join.

THINK : If Sinead wants everyone with electronic access to have copies of
her lyrics, she will put them on her WWW page. But *she* should be the one
to make that decision.

Dear Philip,

I shall endeavor to get you the URLs, email list addresses and gopher sites
of the thousands of unofficial internet sites currently posting lyrics, so
that you may police them. Thanks for undertaking this christlike burden!
Perhaps you can set up a branch of Interpol designed to crack down on these
criminals.

I am a Sinead O'Connor fan and so am concerned about her personal rights.
I'm not particularily concerned about (most of) the other sites which
breach copyright, though do not condone it!

Just because other people break the law doesn't mean you are correct in
doing so. Can I murder you and use as my defence a list of other
murderers around the world?

> Perhaps you can set up a branch of Interpol designed to crack down on

No need ... Interpol are doing just fine already!

You just don't get it, do you? It *not* particularily about whether it's
illegal or not, it's about whether anyone has a right to distribute someone
else's work without their permission, most especially someone who claims to
be a fan (and I assume anyone who is on JITR is by definition a fan).

Sinead has a WWW page. If she wants people to have electronic access to
her lyrics she can post them there. But it should be *her* decision.

Just one more thing about copyright:

If copyright doesn't have much to do with money, then why do they always
talk about money when someone gets sued for breaking copyright laws?

An excellent question. But how else would you recompense the artist who
has had their copyright infringed? Money (rightly or wrongly) is the
common currency for transactions which involve one person giving something
to another person! (and this is getting far, far away from the JITR lists
subject matter!)

There is much talk of Green Day on alt.ramones, suggesting that Green Day
may have, em, listened to a lot of Ramones stuff when they were growing up.
Must get something by them on Saturday ...

Philip, whether or not you agree, lyrics will undoubtedly continue to
be posted here. This may or may not anger Sinead, her management,
her publishing company, Interpol, the Pope, and possibly others as
well. But it's still gonna happen.

If you find this troublesome, may I suggest that you no longer
participate in this forum? Or if you wish to continue to participate,
may I suggest that you cease complaining over something that will
continue to occur?
