Hello quiet people!

I'm wondering if anyone on the list is interested in trading sinead stuff
on tape. This seems to work well on other lists; either straight trades
or a tape and postage (for those who are musicless) or all other manner
of agreements (no, i won't wash your car :-). I don't have *that* much
and i would like to get more!

Email me directly if you're interested.

well, this list has been quite quiet lately, but generally, if you have
any questions about Sinead or some info about her you would like to share
with the rest of us, this is the place...

Hi,
My name is Ida Kereszturszki, I live in the Southern part of Hungary, and
I'm very interested in Irish culture, mythology and language.

Could you tell me some information about the relation between Sinead
O'Connor and the other Irish musicians? I've read something in an
interwiew about her "conflict" with Bono Vox, and I know that she likes
Van Morrison's music /so do I / but any other information will be welcome.

And I would like to find a discography and a FAQ, but I don't know where.

Cheers
Ida

Hello,

Could you help me where can I find things, places related with Sinead in
Ireland. Where was she born? /I think, in Dublin, but I'm not sure./

Any information about her will be welcome, because I don't know many
things, and I can't reach ftp.postmodern.com, neither turbo.bio.net.

Thanks

------------------------------ Start of body part 1

Well, somebody (I hope his name appears in the header) posted this to an
other mailing list (defending his decision that he, given the chance of
hugging 5 people of his choice, chose - amongst others - Sinead). I thought
it was so nice:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------ Start of body part 2

>> 5.Sinead O'Connor - Sorrow and love for her - she has had her tough times
>> -(but no angel) & she's Irish and from near me :-)
>I think that she tries a bit to be controversial, and that she gets offended
>by people too easily.
I agree. But, as is often the case, the reason for these actions are what call
for pity, love and understanding. Ripping up a picture of the pope on stage
and saying "sight the real enemy" is blasphemy - no matter what religious
beliefs you have - Taoist, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian etc. She was brought
up a God fearing little girl - and this is the shackle which she is trying to
free herself from, but she has to do it in the public eye. She is rebelling
against that which she was brought up in - which we all do, it's part of
growing up. So she threw away her religion but also the security which goes
with it (Karl Marx - "Religion is the Opium of the People".) and this left
her in a quandry - her security gone, what could she believe in now - Nothing,
nihilism is a frightening realisation for anybody. So she was scared and
screamed for help - and all she got was bigotry and intolerance from righteous
'believers'. She gets offended easily because she is defensive - as any
insecure person is. So that's why I want to hold her in my arms and tell her
that somebody loves her, and that she's not alone :-)

I find it admirable that Alan chose to voice his views, since this
list is so uptight about talking. I do have some differences with
what he has expressed, however. I feel that Sinead's time of needing
pity ended years ago when she was still young, regarding her
girlish fears. I do pity her that she was misunderstood and unfairly
attacked by boors who booed her, since she probably anticipated
understanding instead of boos for her challenging of the evil side of
religion.

I do not think she needs anyone's pity for her courage in standing up
to the hypocritical guilt-ridden catholic church, nor do i find her actions
blasphemy -- only blasphemous to one who can't stand criticism of that
church. Sinead does not strike me *at all* to be a nihilist nor
one who is lacking spirituality in the least. She strikes me more
one who is not afraid to stand up to evil and hypocrisy, even when
that hypocrisy lies in a place called "holy," that oppresses people
thru guilt and lies. And coming from Ireland she knows the full
scoop better than many.

Her music is brimming with spirituality, passion, love, sadness,
angsty -- emotion. She needs no condescension, but she does need
our support when she tries to do something that takes guts and
people boo her -- I mean if you are standing next to someone booing
Sinead, you could do her a bigger favor by cheering over the booer
(or maybe punching him out, ha ha) than by offering your pitying
arms...she doesn't strike me as alone at all. I imagine she has
more love around her than you can imagine..

Jani recently reminded me via email that Sinead has at times
said in interviews that she has felt very alone and suicidal
in the past. (I imagine that her cover of "All Apologies" reflects
empathy with such a mindset and ability to relate to Kurt C.).
Maybe I exaggerate a bit about "more love than you can imagine"
being around her in my zeal to dispel notions that she needs our
pity. I think mainly we can see our own pain reflected in her
life and songs, but I still chafe at the idea of pitying her
at this stage in her life -- I view her as less girlish now
and more mature, despite her really intense relationships and
past struggles with being in the public eye....but yeah
she knows what it's like to really be alone, despite her spirituality.

Due to popular demand, an extra date has been added to Sinead's

visit to Israel. The current dates are:

June 13 - Roman Amphitheatre, Caesarea (sold out)
June 14 - Roman Amphitheatre, Caesarea (new)
  June 15 - Sultan's Pool, Jerusalem

That's this week! Sure you won't come?

I saw Sinead in concert on Saturday at the Fleadh (an Irish music
festival) here in London. She was playing between Van Morrison and The
Beautiful South to a crowd of thousands of people.
She had a band of four: drums, bass, guitar, two keyboards. One of the
keyboarders and the bassist were female. I'm not sure, but the drummer
could have been John Reynolds.
Sinead was dressed in black leather trousers and coat. Her hair is
growing - about 2 inches now.
So far for the gossip part ;-) Now for the interesting part - the
music. She was playing a set of 10 songs, the order of which I can't remember
exactly:
The Emperor's New Clothes
Thief of Your Heart
Famine
John I Love You
Red Football
All Babies
The Last Day of Our Aquaintance
Fire On Babylon
In This Heart
I Am Stretched On Your Grave

It was absolutly brilliant and the crowd loved it. In most of the
songs Sinead was singing some extra bits. Her voice was crystal
clear. Frequently she used sign language to emphasise the lyrics. She
was clearly in a good mood. She seemed very confident although she
still exhibited that cute shyness when interacting with the audience.

It's a show not to be missed.

Matthias

Has anybody been to Dublin since the summer of 1991, or is there any
person on this list that happens to reside there now? That summer I was
in Dublin doing the typical American tourette things, but I consciously
sat in the long grass during rain storms, and visited the Bad Ass Cafe
where She was a hostess sometime in her youth. (There was a photograph of
her in the window of this cafe in a back alley of the punk district.
Though she was serving food she had a Sinead smile that even then that
seemed so innocent and angelic. I'm wondering if that photo still is
hung in that window?) And I walked through Phoenix Park, though I saw no
allagator that couldn't move, "even if it wanted to," in the zoo.
That summer I also went to Sligo, County Sligo, where Y.B. Yeats was
raised. I bring this up because it is of course Yeats who wrote in "The
Second Troy" that there is no other Troy for her to burn.
Back in Dublin, I overheard two Dublin broughed girls at the train station
saying
that they were on their way to visit a Sinead. I wanted to follow them.
Any person with such a name had to be sought, but I didn't.
Sorry, for my brief recollections, but four years later Dublin seems so
distant from my home in Reno, Nevada. Here they are building a theme
casino in the form of a Victorian cityscape, and to watch this
monstrosity being built often reminds me of Dublin, the State Post Office
in particular.
If anybody has recently been to Dublin, tell me about it, I'd like to hear.

I am trying to locate and purchase the following Sinead compositions:

	1. ENYCD-611
	2. ENY-610
	3. ENYK-610

In addition, I'm looking for any information regarding the collaboration of
Sinead with
the groups Colourfield and The Sugar Cubes (Bjork)

Thanks for the help. Al Grote.

pretty cool and Bohemian (for Ireland), though Galway is miles

work and there wasn't a good head of crema on the espresso, but
what can you do?

Just got back from Sinead's first concert in Israel, at the Roman
Theatre in Caesarea.

The concert lasted about 80 minutes, and the songs were:

	Emperor's New Clothes
	Famine
You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart
	John I Love You
	Red Football
	All Apologies
	A Perfect Indian
	All Babies
	Thank You For Hearing Me
The Last Day of Our Acquaintance
I Am Stretched on Your Grave
	In This Heart
	Fire on Babylon
	---------------
1st Encore: On Radelin (?) Road
	    The Harder They Come
	---------------
2nd Encore: Dream a Little Dream of Me

Sinead was in good voice, and the band she has with her (which she
unfortunately never introduced) is good. The band includes two women:
a bass player and a piano/keyboard/accordion player, both of whom sang
backup; and three men: guitar, drums, and another keyboardist.

The show was good, but I can't help feeling something was missing, some
sort of a "live" feel. Maybe it was because most of the songs were
performed pretty much the same as on the album. Usually there was only
a tiny bit added at the end. Or maybe it was because Sinead didn't try to
talk to us. Except for "thank you" and a curtsy after each song, she said
very little. And what she did say sounded very strange - I've heard her
on interviews, and what I heard tonight was neither her normal voice nor
her usual accent. Maybe she was trying to compensate for our not being
an English-speaking audience?
But probably the lack of "live" feeling came from the audience. All
5000 or so of us remained seated during the entire show. And didn't sing
along with Sinead, or even clap in time with the songs, except rarely.
(Notable exception: "Red Football" got emphatic clapping). Not that the
audience didn't enjoy the show: there was thunderous applause at the
beginning of every song (as people identified it), and at the end of each.
And we kept up the applause after the show until the house lights
went up and we saw Sinead's limo pull out the back. But, somehow, the
architecture of the Roman Theatre prevented dancing, and something in
the air inhibited singing. (I can tell you why _I_ didn't sing: I could
hear myself. The loudspeakers weren't loud enough to drown everything
else out. The rest of the audience wasn't singing, so my voice wouldn't
be lost there, either. And if I could hear myself, so could my neighbors -
who paid to hear Sinead, not me. So I didn't want to spoil their enjoyment).

Long story short: It was a very good show, technically, and I would
probably have enjoyed it more on video in my own home.

Hi everybody.

I am new on the list. My r/l name is Nico, and I normally live in
Buenos Aires, Argentina. But i'll be living in Paris now for a few
months.

My only chance of seeing Sinead until now was during Peter
Gabriel's Secret World tour... Only one day before the concert
in Buenos Aires, i heard on radio that she was not coming -
argh.... and only after that the whole fuss came...

So, even if I am sure that there probably IS a concert date list
somewhere, and taking into consideration the fact that I am
now in Europe and I don't know when I'll come again... I beg
anyone among you who might know of ANY Sinead concert
about to take place somewhere in this continent in the next
days or weeks to mail me!!!! (address: nrosner@cafe.orbital.fr)

It would really be great to be able to hear and see Sinead live,
even if I had to travel for it.

Thanks a lot.

                                            Nico Rosner.

Strange, I did also notice that her speaking voice sounded totally
different from what I'm used to. It was a more high pitch, child-like
sort of voice. She did it deliberatly though. When she told her band
to play a different song than planned ("Fuck the list, play All
Babies") it was clearly her "normal" voice.

It seems the set was the same in Israel and London, although she
didn't play an encore here :-(

Gee, Adrian, what's the matter? Isn't this list anal retentive
enough already without you censoring it too? I find the info on
Ireland interesting, and it's not often we hear of it. If you

I heard that Sinead beat the crap out of some reporters in Jerusalem.
Yeah, GO SINEAD!
I hope this doesn't affect her being in Lalapalooza.

Well, they goaded her to it. The report in the newspaper starts
something like "Everyone was waiting for it, and now it's happened."
Everybody knows Sinead's a controversial person, and yet she'd been
in the country for several days and nothing happened. She was nice
to everybody, smiling shyly and answering reporters' questions; she
gave two sold-out concerts to appreciative audiences and great reviews;
she went walking on the beach at 2am, and then slept till lunch...
Where's the news in that?
So when she went visiting the holy places in Jerusalem and asked that
the photographers go away, they naturally refused. And when she tried to
sneak out the back, they chased her. So she beat them (note she didn't
have her bodyguards do it for her.) And they were so happy that they
finally proved what a temperamental girl she is...

Right. Them paparazi deserve worse. There aught to be a law!

Haven't heard much talk of this, how is it? Or did I just miss that
discussion? Should I run out and pay $10.99 for it, or save my money?

Also, anyone heard her duet with Willie Nelson on Peter Gabriel's
"Don't Give Up" on Willie's "Across the Border" CD? How is it? And
how's the rest of the album? Been thinking about buying this one too,
I kind of like Willie, but just kind of.

Thanks to anyone who can help me make up my mind -

Any thoughts on the new Chieftains album? I listened to one of the Sinead
songs ("The Foggy Bottom" I think it was called) in Camelot and I'm
thinking of buying the CD.

I think the two songs that Sinead sings on the Long Black Veil -album are
great and good enough reason to buy the album. I bought it. Although the
rest of the songs there are more or less awful... not my cup of tea anyway.

Does anyone know, have those two songs been released as singles? I've
only seen the Chieftains with Van Morrison single.

Sinead's performances on this album are superlative! Of course, the
entire album is pretty good. Anuna backing Sting. Ry Cooder and his
Hawaiian slack-key parody. Marianne Faithfull singing, "I wish I were a
maid again."

The last two track aren't that great (IMO), but whether you like Sinead
or trad Irish music or both, then get "Long, Black Veil."

I may be a little bit behind here, but I thought Sinead O'Connor
retired from the music industry about two years ago. Why did she
come back? Don't get me wrong, I like Sinead, and I was happy to see
the arrival of Universal Mother, but her retirement seemed so final
and then she came back. Did she give a reason for coming out of
retirement?

She never retired, but got out of the lights doing guest appearances with

Hello,

First let's introduce myself.
My name is Marcel Bobbink, am 26 years old and live in Holland.

I am a big Sinead fan, and also a much bigger Prince fan.
But I collect items of both.

Besides this mailing list I also got a mailing list of Prince, wow what is
that one big when you compare it with this one.

But now about Sinead;
I first heard of her when she had her first hit here (Troy or was it
Mandinka) since then I started buying her albums.
3 years ago I started collecting everything she has done (as far as I knew)
But half a year ago, the burglars stole everything. And when I almost bought
everything again they came back 2 months later and stole it again. Damn.

But again I started buying the cd's (after having bought a alarm)
First everything of Prince (about 200 cd's incl. the bootlegs)
And after having seen her live a view weeks ago; now's the time for Sinead.
I bought every cd-album, cd-single and all 3 :-)) bootlegs.

I've found a tape of a concert in Holland of 1990 and a tape of a concert of
1988.

I've found some cd's of others artists she worked with, but don't know them all.

All I've found are;

Various - Red Hot and Blue
Max - Silence Running
Various - The Glory of Gerswin
The Chieftains - The Long Black Veil
Jah Wobble - Rising above Bedlam
Peter Gabriel - Us
Manu Dibango - Wakafrika
The The - Mind Bomb
The Edge - Captive OMST.

Shane McGowan and Sinead cd-s - Haunted
Gavin Friday and Sinead - you made me the thieve of your heart.

Her 4 albums

cd-singles
- nothing compares 2 U / JITR / JITR (instr.)
- The emperor's new clothes (7" mix) / remix hank shocklee / I'm streched on
your grave (apple brightness mix) / (night untill morning dub)
- Silent night/ irish ways and irish laws
- don't cry for me argentina / scarlet ribbons / love letters
- succes has made../ you do something 2 me / I want to be loved by you
- succes has made../my heart belongs 2 daddy / someone to watch over me
- fire in babylon / I believe in you / House of the rising sun / streets of
London.
- Thank you for hearing me / fire in babylon remix
- Thank you for hearing me / fire in babylon remix / fire in babylon (edit)

bootlegs;

Live USA
Beautiful Vision
The Lion in the Cage

tapes live

Ahoy Rotterdam Holland November 1990
 ??? Utrecht Holland March 88

Vinyl singles;

Troy / Still listening
Mandinka / drink before the war
I want your (hands on me) with MC lyte / just call me joe

And my question is; What items/artists/remixen/guest appearances etc etc. do
                    I miss ???

Please help me to complete my collection !!!

Can somebody send me also a discography, I tried a special adress but didn't
get something in return (not yet)

Hello:

Just saw a Sinead Video on Much Music (Canada's MTV)

It was her duet with Shane McGowan.
The name of the song was Haunted i think.

I liked the song.

Although shane mcgowan sounded like
his vocal chords had been shreded by a broken
vodka bottle. (first time i've heard him)

It was also neet to see her hair a little long. (Long for Sinead that is)

Also,

There is a digest version of this list?

The volume is too high for some people?
Sorry after being on the tori amos mailing list which is
in digest form because the volume is too high i find this
somewhat funny.

Hey Marcel; i think Sinead also has a song in the soundtrack of "Untill

the end of the world".

Prince is COOL! However i'm not really interested in that symbol man.
Was once subscribed to the Prince list in digest form; but couldn't
handle so much mail.

Will be away from tomorrow to the 12th of August. Bye all; have a great
summer!

What's this about a Sinead press conference on the WWW?

The address is
http://lollapalooza.com

or something like that.

But when is it?

He always does, he's a member of The Pogues if I'm right and he's almost
always drunk. When Sinead did her Pinkpop concert here in Holland 3 weeks
ago, Also ShaneMcGowan was here with his band. When he preformed live with
his band he was so drunk that he couldn't sing any more and fell on the
ground and has to be carried away.
And that's ashame because he and Sinead where planning to do Haunted
together during her live-preformance a view hours later.
But she was good with or without him.

Yes she's good looking huh...

Maybe it's time to make a newsgroup, even better than a digest.

Hello,

2 days ago I asked wether somebody has a song of Sinead I don't have. And I
know there must be a lot.

I just got 2 messages of people who know of such songs, and only one is real
new for me.
- There should be a soundtrack "Untill the End of the world" containing a
Sinead song.

The other one told me about 2 records containing a "know"song of her.
- Q-magazines World of Noise (contains Fire on Babylon)
- Celtic Moods - compilation (contains Three babies, and; Heroine (from the
Captive soundtrack))

Again; Please if you know of more songs I've never heard of let me know, and
if you don't have my list anymore mail me and you'll get it.

I forgot to mention Roger Waters The Wall Live containing a Sinead song, but
nobody told me that song excists. And I think you all know it excists.
Please I want to make a total discography !!!

Hello,

Today I got a message saying the Soundtrack CD "Untill the end of the world"
contains a Sinead as dumb as I was I posted it directly in the Mailing List
without checking it.
But I just came home from checking it;
The CD doesn't contain any Sinead song, (I read the booklet and no word
about Sinead). But maybe the US version of this CD does, I only saw the
European version.

Maybe someone down there in the USA will check for me?

I believe it's tonight (6/28) from 7:00-7:30 EST. That's what I heard
on the radio this morning. Of course, I heard it from the shower so it
may not be correct.

The only thing I can think of is the Peter Gabriel song "Blood of Eden"
which appears on his _Us_ album. I believe there is a version of this
song that was supposed to appear on the soundtrack but was pulled off of
it for some reason. Sinead was on the _Us_ album version.

Well, I just looked at that website and found I had missed the stupid
thing by 15 minutes! It says that it was 7:30-8:00 pm EST for the
public (7:00-7:30 pm for the press). If I'd had any idea, I'd have
looked up that URL sooner! I recommend you check it out, as you
can leave a message for Sinead there....

Nice work Higlander (or may I call you MacLoed). I've making an effort to
set up a Sinead www page myself but I'm having trouble finding a server
that won't charge me a lot. BTW is the FTP site up and running yet?

It was very cool. There were'nt too many people (thought there were a lot)
talking at the same time. I got to get some words in edge wise. She's
every bit as cool as I thought she'd be. I asked her if she was still
Christian, she made a few pagan references in the booklet with the
Universal Mother cd. She bascially said yeas and suggested I read a book
called "The Womean with the Alibaster Jar" by M. Starbird (I think that's
right). Anybody know anything about this book?
She also talked a little about the reporter bashing thing. She said she
didn't really break anyone's camera, but she wanted to. More Power to ya,
Sinead!

Did anyone happen to catch the Westwood One broadcast of the Glastonbury
Festival last weekend? I know WBCN in Boston broadcast it, but since I
was in my car at the time, I couldn't tape it. I did manage to hear a
good chunk of Sinead's set. Anyone out there tape it?

To Jeff:
Nice job on the web page. The On-line conference looked completely out
of control at the beginning, but it eventually became easier to follow.
Did anyone follow Sinead to IRC? It's nice to know that she's so
interested in the internet. Perhaps she'll eventually be lead here :)

i saw the sinead internet interview on highlander's page. much thanx
to him.

the interview read very much like an interchange between an angel
and people that i've seen when using a ziriya board (kinda like a
extra special ouija board)......where many are talking at once
and the spirit tries to keep its train of thought going..

i really enjoyed reading that...

In my last message i referred to the sinead o'connor lollapalooza
internet interview, which i read on the sinead web page we have
been told of.

I wanted to say that what I meant by comparing it to reading a transcript
of a ziriya session is that it reminds me of people talking to a
guardian angel or spirit guide. However, I view Sinead as a very
human participant on this plane, not an angel -- it's just that
the communications reminded me of this....from what i have seen.

I enjoyed reading it, but I would have preferred it if people
were a little less sycophantic in their manner of addressing her...

Has anyone been able to send email to Sinead from her "Dressing Room" page on the Lollapalooza site? Is it simply busy?
Any help would be appreciated.

hi all,

I sent 2 notes to sinead at her dressing room and I got responses from
a nice woman named Heidi. I figure she works with sinead and she promised
to forward all the messages to her. I request that sinead record a single
of "greensleeves". It would be fantastic. That's all for now.

Yes, I sent her an email and received a notification that she would
receive it. I don't know how they do any of that of course...

I want to add one more comment about the Lolla internet interview.
I was very glad to see that Sinead enjoys Hole's music and relates to
Courtney Love. (I love Courtney's recorded music, tho I have once posted how
I feel about her live shows -- that stage Barbie schtick and human volleyball
game in the audience was not something I was up for, sorry.) When I think
of "You Made Me The Thief of Your Heart" and "Stretched on Your Grave,"
they do remind me a bit of Courtney's life...(seriously...and I really do
admire
Hole's music and energy -- tho at some point, it will be time for her
to learn to write about something besides anger...but at least there's a
woman out there who's dealing with anger...I listened to Hole a lot last
year and am a big fan, despite my little criticism of the live show
thing...) If you've seen the interview, you'll see that she talks of a
consoling song
she would sing to Courtney...

Really, it was a wonderful thing that jeff did putting that on the web
for us to see...and again, Sinead said her message was "FAITH." (actually
that's written all over the last album if you want to listen...)
