I offered to do the Sinead B-day project before Matthias did, but he was
insistent that he would do it. That was fine by me, but... I can't
believe after all the arguing that this will apparently not happen. If
one is unsure of one's ability to keep a commitment, then it is advisable
to let someone else take that committment on.

I'm trying not to be a bitch.

Jeremy-
If you cared half as much as you seem to about the b-day idea,
stop sulking and pick up where Mathias left off. There is still time to
carry on with the project, that is the beauty of technology today. I
hope you decide to continue with it, I am sure that you could obtain the
12 or so messges that were already composed that were sent to Mathias.
Good luck...

Well, let's do it if possible! I have appropriately forgot the date of
the all-important b-day already, how many days do I have?

So, can Matthias please send me the list of name/messages, and also tell
me what address you planned to use for mailing?

Any quick ideas on the format of the card? I don't have the facilities to
do anything very fancy in just a few days, if I had time though...

This is not quite true. These are the facts: I posted the Bday date. Someone
suggested to "do something". Jeremy came up with idea from the ecto-mailing-list,
e.g. sending her a Bday card or a tape or something. He also offered to do it. I
wanted to get the project going and offered to collect Bday wishes for Sinead. At
no point I was "insisting" that *I* do it. Jeremy *never* asked me how he could
contribute. He *never* said "Let me do it!"

This can all be verified in the archive.

Again: I *never* said to anyone "I won't let *you* do it because *I* am going to
do it".
Besides: I don't like people telling me what I should and shouldn't do. Those on
the list who know me will also know that if I make a decision as the one I made
I will certainly have *very* good reasons for it.

> I'm trying not to be a bitch.

No comment on that one ;-)

I mailed Jeremy all the information I've got so he can carry on with the project.

peace,

Matthias.

Some good news (if it's true):

According to the recent issue of Q Magazine Sinead has started writing
songs again.

"In the Name of the Father" (or whatever it is called) is opening in
Ireland in December and in Britain in January.

Peace,

Yes, it actually got done. I sent it off on Tuesday, I think.
I sent it airmail to UK, who knows how long that takes.

Brief description:
A booklet format. Cover page says "Happy Birthday Sinead" which
is accompanied by a high-res black and white rose; all within a
frame. First interior page has a description of the bday project,
the description of jitr, and the group wishes. Following pages are
personal messages which were sent to Matthias. The whole thing was
bound with a red ribbon. I think it turned out pretty nice for a
last minute rush. Let's hope she gets it soon (i.e., Claire gives
it to her promptly).

I plan to send the cover to the uwp archive, as a gif file. If any-
one would prefer another format, please e-mail me promptly. I will
also post the messages as a text file, but I would like to make sure
that all the people who sent them are comfortable with that. So in
a few days it will be uploaded.

Thanks to everyone who sent personal messages.
Let's do this again.

I've heard the same 'rumor' about a new album/cd to be released in
March 94. That's all I've heard though...

Just FYI, I found a cd single by a group called MARXMEN (or Marxman, I don't
have it with me), the song is called "Ship Ahoy", and Sinead does "guest"
vocals, which means she has a little backup in the chorus. You can distinctly
hear her voice, but its not too notable past that. Kinda a rap song with a
touch of irish flute to give it flavor. I bought it because I am desperate to
have anything new from her -- the only remotely recent thing I have from her is
the tracks off of _Peace Together_, which are awful. Anyone else know of any
obscure Sinead trax I could buy until her new album? (MARCH '93? I can't
wait!)

The only other ones I know of off the top of my head are "Blood of Eden" of
Peter Gabriel's _Us_ (got it) and a track off The The's first or second album
(heard it, don't want it).

Please, any ideas would be much appreciated! I want my S-I-N-E-A-D! :)

This may sound strange but I was watching some ice-skating show this weekend
and noticed that Kristi (I'll try to spell this last name but lord knows I'm
going to get it completely wrong) Yamaguchi skated to a song that I swear was
Sinead. I had never heard it before. Anybody out there catch the show and
have any idea what I am talking about?

It must be my day to hear these things! WFNX in Boston just announced
that the soundtrack to the Irish film "In The Name of The Father" will
feature Sinead on it. I'm not sure how many tracks will be hers, but
the first single is her's. It's called "Thief of the Heart". She also
will contribute some backing vocals to another band on the album. I
forget who though. The title track is by some Irish bloke named Bono.
Perhaps it'll be Sonny Bono!

Oh yeah, the album will be out Jan. 25. That's a little closer than March.

It's just one song, but Sinead sings "Someday My Prince Will Come"
on a Disney anthology CD, I'm not sure of the name. Maybe someone
else out there knows it??? It has tracks by Sinead, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits,
etc.

The name of the Disney CD is "STAY AWAKE". She does indeed do "Someday My
Prince Will Come". She also contributes one song to the "CAPTIVE" soundtrack.
It may be a difficult find, but well worth it. "Heroine" is the track. An
even harder find is the 12" with two mixes.

She also contributes the following:

Roger Waters - The Wall: Live in Berlin
	Sinead performs "Mother"
Red Hot & Blue
	"You Do Something To Me"
A Very Special Christmas II
	"I Believe In You"
Two Rooms - Elton John tribute album
	"Sacrifice"
Jah Wobble - Rising Above Bedlam
Sinead does backing vocals on "Visions of You"
Jah Wobble - The Ungodly Kingdom EP
	Backing vocals on "Josey Walsh"
Peter Gabriel - US
Sinead actually does backing vocals on "Come Talk To Me"
"Blood of Eden" and another track, I beleive.
Willie Nelson and Sinead
	"Don't Give Up"
World Party
Backing vocals on "Hawaiian Island World" from "Private Revoltion"
(She also appears in the video)
Backing vocals on "Sweet Soul Dream" from "Goodbye Jumbo"

Then ogr buclaa
(oops!)

Then of course, there are bunches o' B-sides!

If you're REALLY desperate for some Sinead... or at least a Sinead Surrogate,
check out anything by Sarah McLachlan, a Canadian singer/songwriter. She has
two studio albums, a live album, and a whole bunch of CD singles with
alternate songs. One of them is even a cover of Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury
Hill" -- so Sarah has PG connections too. Anyway, Sarah's voice sounds A LOT
like Sinead's. I have played her music for a lot of people and often they
say, is that Sinead O'Conner? Nope! The voice is very similar on a lot of
tracks, and even the music is sometimes similar. Sarah is also included on
the new "No Alternative" sampler album of "alternative" music (although I
woulda never guessed to put her there!). She writes very good songs, not
always with the same "bite" that Sinead sometimes has (i.e., the "attitude"),
but still really great. I actually like Sarah McLachlan better than Sinead!
(gasp! can I say this here?) So check out Sarah McLachlan if you need a
Sinead Surrogate. Start with Sarah's latest album, Solace, as I think it's
the best. Sarah also has a new album coming out in a few months too. Any
other Sinead fans know about Sarah?

-----------------

I'll second this -- the first time I heard Sarah I was listening to the radio,
and I could have sworn it was Sinead. When I found out who it was I picked up
her albums, and I have been a moderate fan ever since.

Incidently, I learned from some list or another that Sarah's new album is
already available in Canada as an import, and apparently is very good. I wish
I could give you more info, but alas, I dumped that post a while ago.

One note on the Sarah/Sinead comparison: while I like them both, I have found
IMHO that Sarah is a lot more dense (i.e. sometimes overproduced) compared to
Sinead, who oftentimes has much more of a "raw" sound. That's not a given, but
they aren't musical twins. That notwithstanding, though, I think a Sinead fan
is likely to enjoy Sarah as well.

It has already been mention on the list a few times, but another good
alternative is The Cranberries' album. In some ways it is has more in common
with the Sundays than with Sinead, but the lead singer's voice is to die for!!!

Does anyone have a complete discography of Sinead? There might be one in a FTP
file somewhere, but I can't access that type of file. Please mail me privately
if you could obtain one for me!!!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I agree with everything you have said here! If anything,
McLauchlan is softer and more sensual than Sinead...an amazing
talent.
If you like Sinead you'll probably like McLauchlin.

I just gave Chrysalis a ring. They couldn't confirm the rumor and these are the
people who should definitely know about any new Sinead album.

Just be patient.

speaking of sinead surrogates, it just occurred to me that my band,
LAMPshADe, would probably make a good candidate. it didn't occur to
me when i first read the post about sarah mclaghlan (who, IMO, does
have an amazing voice, and i adore that last hit single of hers in
which she rolls around in mud during the video), but for some reason
the cranberries comparison brought it to mind.

we are a bunch of people (5, to be exact) from philadelphia. we have a
male and a female singer, which works out quite nicely IMO. The female
singer is named goo (otherwise known as catherine) and she has a mind-
blowing, spine-tingling, bone-chilling voice which is undoubtedly up
there with sinead's. the way i see it, sinead has two voices: her
melodic, soothing, clear voice, and her raw, angry, angstful yell-type-
voice. goo's voice sticks to the more melodic style (the former).

if you are interested in hearing goo & us, we will be featured on two
upcoming pieces of seven-inch vinyl: "Parade of Homes," a four-band from
philadelphia compilation on two peters records, and with our debut,
three song 7" on purderous magina records.

including LAMPshADe. cassettes are $5 us / $6.50 can and 7"s are

There *IS* a album scheduled for release in March 94.

It's *NOT* Sinead though.

It's Jah Wobble's new album and Sinead appears on it (as she did on the previous
one) together with Bjoerk (!!!).

As an aside: I bought the Jah Wobble's "Ungodly Kingdom EP" today with Sinead
singing *lead* vocals on "Josey Walsh". Great song! I can't get it out of my
head (well, I can't get any of her songs out of my head anyway ;-) ).

Someone asked about Marxman.
They're an Irish/British rap band. Sinead recorded with them the song "Ship Ahoi"
for their album and single. She also appears in the video and showed up at
Marxman's first UK show last year. The album "33 revolutions per minute" is pretty
good. It's the only rap album I can listen to ;-)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

Matthias.

History of the word "FUCK"
originally was used as an acronym in the middle ages.....
the men convicted of crimes would be chained in stocks and displayed in
front of the public.....
there would be hung around their necks, signs telling of their crimes
for those convicted ofthe crime of rape the sign would read:
F.U.C.K
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (these people were called Fuckers)
just a bit of trivia for you!

Not to change the focus of this list but I do want to address the
recommendation of Belly. I agree that the lead vocalist has an
interesting voice, unfortunately it gets completely drowned out
by mediocre guitar playing on every song except for "Feed the Tree".
So if you are thinking of buying the album for the vocals I
would listen to a copy of the whole album before you throw your
money down.

I have started from scratch and included all Sinead O'Connor's
releases and projects that I am aware of. If you know of any
recordings which are missing from this list please let me know.
I do know that there are many U.S. versions of most of the U.K.
singles here but I didn't have the full information on them if
you do and there are differences in the tracks on the recordings
please mail the info to me. Thanks. Send all comments, additions,
corrections, etc. to: boarjas@elof.iit.edu. I hope you find this
useful!

Just wanted to let everyone know that there are two new additions
to the archives -- the Sinead 1993 Birthday Card and greetings (thanks
to Jeremy Corry for doing the project and to Matthias Radestock for
the original concept!); and the latest and greatest Sinead
Discography dated 24 December 1993 (thanks to Jason Boardman!).

The files are named as follows:

bday1993.gif	GIF image of birthday card 36326 bytes
bday1993.txt	Text of birthday greetings 8568 bytes
discography	Text of latest discography 12436 bytes

These are all, of course, on the anonymous FTP site net.bio.net
[134.172.2.69] in the directory misc/jitr.

Oh, and in the bday1993.txt file, the name "Sinead" displays as
"Sin]ad"; this is not a typo, but merely what you get in ASCII from the
character translation. The original printed version has the accent.
Jeremy also notes that because of several requests, the personal
residence and e-mail addresses of participants have been deleted from
the public version.

I'm looking for the single for "the emperor's new clothes" which also contains
two mixes of "i am stretched on your grave." I have it on 12", but would
rather have it on CD (since my turntable is near death). My local import shop
says they don't think I can get it anymore. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Thanks,
Sam

Subject: More Sinead release news!

25. That's a little closer than March.

since i'm very far behind on my mail i just read:

write to nettwerk@mindlink.bc.ca and ask them how to order the new Sarah
album. imho it's awesome, and you don't want to wait until it's out in the
states.

i basically agree with this as well -- if you get the chance, give Sarah a
listen. i think you'll be happy.

peace and sunsmiles :)
