Yep that's Enya alright. The translation is written on the
sleeve of the album (or maybe it's on the back). It's the passage
about the "lion" and the "serpent."  Sorry, memory fails me;
I don't remember exactly what was said. Believe me, it's on the
album somewhere written in English and in Gaelic. BTW, anybody
else hear that Sinead is recording again? Sorry, I haven't read
the list in a while so this might be old news, but the tentative
title of the new album is "Am I Not Your Girl."

I have made slight revisions here and there in the
Sinead discography. I will be mailing it in ascii
and PostScript form to the administrator once again
for FTP availability. This will be the last posted
revision until her new album comes out, unless I am
notified of any changes that need to be made before
then.

I have noticed that Sinead's album has been bumped
back to Sept 22 for the US release date. I also know
a little more about it. The album is all old swing/jazz
type covers from the 40s and that era. She is using a
huge 20 or 30 piece band to accompany. (This is what I
have *heard* please dispel if you know this is an incorrect
rumor.) What do you think of this? Are most of you disappointed?
Overjoyed? Indifferent? What?

Try astounded....I have heard what I assume is the first single
off the new album, it was played on the radio this weekend.
I actually listened to this for about two minutes thinking
"I know that voice. Who is that? Geez, it sounds so
familiar....Oh my God, that's Sinead!" Her voice,
next to this massive accompianment, sounded so
strange, the whole piece so bizarre, that I hadn't
recognized her at all.

I hope some of you out there like it. I have a sad and
sinking feeling about this album.

JUliet, what was the song you heard on the radio?

I head "success has made a failure of our home" the
other day. It started really well, i still really like
the sound of sinead's voice, and there were some intesrting
aspects to the song - the sound was unusal in a way..
but overall it didn't seem to really go anywhere - the
ending (where she sings "am i not your girl?" over and
over) didn't sound as good as I tihnk she could have made it..
"weak" isn't quite the right word, but something along
those lines - I think it could have sounded more passionate,
in fact the whole song could have - the lyrics seemed just "ok",
there was something i didn't like about them, but i'll
have to hear the song a few more times before i have a better
opinion.

That's all just on a first listen in a car with a radio station
not coming in all that well, so it's all more subject to change
than usual.

It's the same song. You sound much more positive about it than
I can bring myself to feel. I guess I just can't get used to the
sound of that orchestra - Sinead O'Connor and Nelson Riddle
was not exactly what I had in mind as far as a new album went.
Of course, Sinead has every right to tell me and anyone else
who expected something different to eff off. She's never
been what you could call predictable...is there a desire to
do something totally unexpected behind this album, do
you think? Was she so sick of her public image that she
wanted to briefly shatter it? Will she go on tour with
an orchestra? Singing the greatest hits of the 30's and 40's?

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Hi !!
I have a few questions and comments, maybe you out there can help.

1) Looking in the archives, I saw reference to some movie Sinead was in
recently ... Hush A Bye Baby. Did anyone see this? Was it released in
the theaters, or can I find it on video?

2) Does anyone out there know where I can get a copy of the 3 Babies
CD single?

3) A couple of weeks ago, I saw a 7" of _Silent Night_. I didn't buy
it, since I don't usually buy vinyl. But I noticed it wasn't on the
discography. Should it be added? And what do people think about the song?

4) Does anybody out there have "Take My Hand"?, the song she did with
In Tua Nua? What did she sound like back then?

Well, I hope to hear from some of you !

I have seen a copy of 3 babies on import for $9.99 in berkeley music stores.

I also have a copy and it is worth getting. There is a great live version
of "troy" on it.

According to the August issue (?) of the Rolling Stone Magazine Sinead
performed live at a New York Cafe. No information has been given, wheter she
did sing some of her new songs.

Well, about five minutes ago MTV premiered (in my time zone, anyway)
Sinead's new video for "Success (Has Made a Failure of Our Home)",
which is purportedly originally a Tammy Wynette song which was also
covered by Elvis Costello.

Both the song and video are Major Strange, if you ask me, but in a
cool, spooky way. The video features Sinead standing in front of a
darkened room which looks sort of like a '50s nightclub, with many
microphones, as if to give a press conference; as she begins the song,
she is singing in the voice-over but on stage she is instead signing
the lyrics in what I assume is ASL. (Later she sings on stage as well,
and continues signing) Throughout the video images of still
photographs are superimposed -- mostly they are of children, possibly
starving or abused, and the camera pans across the audience -- press
photographers, mostly -- as Sinead sings, over and over and over, "Am I
not your girl?"

An auspicious entre' to the new album, I think.
