Has anyone got this? I've seen it in the shops in England but haven't yet
had the time to buy or read it and wondered if it was worth buying...

PS This list seems to be very quiet these days - how many people still
receive it?

Well, this list IS quiet compared to others...

So, who has heard the new Jah Wobble with Sinead on backing vox?
Is this out in the US yet? What's the name of the CD?

And an interesting side comparison between Sinead and Sarah McL

Both have wild first albums and tamer angrier second albums.
Both appear on stage wearing long dresses and boots.
Both have their face at an angle on the cover of their second albums.
Sarah has the external shots of the NC2U video on the cover of her first album.
Sarah is Canadian. Sinead is Irish.
Sarah is currently touring Canada at least. Sinead isn;t.
They both have great voices and write great songs.

Is it true that Sinead sings on the new Jah Wobble single ("Vision Of You"
or something)? I heard this was so, but her name isn't in the credits on
the single or on the outside of the CD box either. Is it true? Is the song
any good?

While browsing at the Tower Records in Cambridge, the CD-single was featured
and 'SINEAD O CONNOR ON VOCALS' was prominently written under it. And from
what I was able to see under the price tag, Sinead was credited for
something. I didn't buy it (it was an import selling for $8.99) but I think the
album will be released in the US. Was it an import or a domestic CD you saw?

From the New Musical Express of 14-MAR-1992 :

"Sinead O'Connor is in weight-lifting and horse riding training for
her first major movie role as _Joan Of Arc_. Movie director Kathryn
Bigelow, famed for her action pics (the recent _Point Break_ with
Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves and _Blue Steel_ with Jamie Lee
Curtis) is likely to push the young Irish star to the limits during
the shoot. Sinead, whose role as a - shock horror - long-haired
schoolgirl in _Hush A Bye Baby_ garnered much praise, is obviously
taking the role seriously, her recent storming of the citadels in
Dublin being worthy of the soldier heroine".

Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart - Rising Above Bedlam K7 (Oval/EASTwest)

Obviously, with Jah Wobble playing bass, it is musically tight.
Unfortunately, Jah decided to make Spanish flamenco-like music that falls
flat into the pit of: Doesn't Charo sound something like this? The first
song, "Visions of You" is a standard pop song, featuring Sinead O'Conner as
backing vocalist to Jah's indistinct vocal singings. From here the album
goes downhill into a pit of repitition, and not even Jah's melodic bass can
save it.

From: Andrew Farmer <arf@hplb.hpl.hp.com>
Date: Thu, 12 Mar 92 16:36:32 GMT

That's not "Spanish flamenco" there, that's Arabian music. Wobble
(and guitarist Justin Adams) are both heavily into middle-eastern musics
like rai and Islamic devotional stuff. Sometimes, this stuff is good but
I thought that this LP was a bit dull. Live, they cook up a great cross-
cultural fusion; all wailing Arabian vocals and heavy-duty dub basslines.

Hello,
I am posting to many of the lists on the musical lists of lists
searching for Tears For Fears fans or collectors. I am a serious
collector of T.F.F. and am looking for other collectors or serious fans
to exchange information and trivia with. If any of you on this list
fit this description, I'd love to speak with you. A Tears For Fears list
used to exist a long time ago but was taken off due to lack of interest.
This is quite a shame. I wish someone would revive a list for T.F.F..
I would do this but don't really have the system or knowledge to moderate
a list. However, I remain a serious collector of their work. I am
currently looking for T.F.F. discographies. I know some exist in a
British magazine called Record Collector but I would need to order the
back issues and these are expensive. If anyone has back issues of this
publication or just have a T.F.F. discography, I would be very greatful
if you would e-mail me at uk04028@ukpr.uky.edu, as I am not a member of
this list.

                                             Thanx in advance,

we saw a car with Oklahoma (is OK) plates, and the licence number was...

you guessed it: SINEAD

and in the song Mandinka it reads that she says:

I don't know no shame

or something like that. I THINK I'M PLAYIN' A GAME????
I have listened very closely over and over and I just can't
hear that. Does someone out there know for sure that she
says that? The best I can do is

I don't know no shame
I feel no pain
I can't see the flame

...although I could be very wrong here, but everyone else I ask agrees
with me on this one. So what do you think??

True, there is no conversation, but there's no Sinead, either. I mean, in
the last 12 months she's put out two whole singles, one of which was a song
she wrote a while ago and the other was a Christmas song. Sure, the live
B-sides were good (the ones on "My Special Child" being *remarkably*
similar to the performances on "The Year of The Horse"), but there really
hasn't been much to talk about, Sinead-wise. And, thank goodness, we're not
like KaTeFans(tm) who flood their list with talk about other artists
entirely when there's no Kate Bush to talk about. Why doesn't anyone here
talk about Tori Amos or Sarah McLachlan? I don't know. I like to think it
keeps the integrity of the list intact.

> Anyway, i was wondering what bootlegs of Sinead are available? Anybody
> has rated them? (sound quality)

I've seen two, one of which (I think) was the same performance as on "The
Year of The Horse" (anyone care to correct that?). I have no idea about
their quality, as I've purchased neither and don't plan to. Anyone else?

I just picked up The Value of Ignorance video that she has out.
Overall it is very good. It isn't your basic concert video at
all thoug, it is full of all kinds of artistic superimpsed
images and effects. One thing though, in this video she sings
the songs very closely to the recorded versions, and doesn't
throw in alot of different little vocal thingys... so if
you like that better this is the video to get. The other video
is The Year of the Horse. I have seen this one, it is just
a straight out concert video, very well done though and a
good performance too (has she ever given a bad one?!!) One
question tho: She has at least 5 or 6 videos (I have seen
clips of them on documentaries), why doesn't she release
a video of her music videos-- or has she???

In the FTP archive in the misc.lyrics file there are the
lyrics to The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. What is this,
and WHERE CAN I FIND IT!!!!! Is it perhaps from the
movie by the same title. Please someone get back to me
on this-- I have quite a few Sinead related things to get
but I seem to have never heard of this one!

The video for Jah Wobble's "Visions of You" debuted in the US this
morning on MTV's 120 Minutes. Sinead is credited with "backing
vocals" but it is more of a duet, and she appears in the video and is
onscreen about half the time, sort of dancing in place.

Cool song, cool video.

I transcribed "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" as best I could from
the tape I have of her in Boston from 4 years ago. She performed it
in concert, and I have no idea if it's been recorded anywhere else.

It's too old to have been written for the new movie by that title, and
probably isn't appropriate anyway.

The song is a cover of a Smiths tune from their first album. I think the
Smiths bassist (?) was touring with Sinead, and thus the connection.

BTW, although my first reaction to 'Visions of you' was 'not impressed',
seeing the video yesterday and finally listening to the song with my full
attention several times made me change my mind. Is Sinead featured in any
other songs on the Jah Wobble album?

I have two - one audio and the other visual. The first is a concert of Sinead's
which I took off the Radio here in England (Radio 1) and the other I taped
at Christmas which is from the TV. The concert on tape is pretty cool esp.
as she changes the lyrics to some songs 'You're still a FUCKING liar'.

I would love to see her in concert - is she going to be touring again soon or
is she just very quiet at the moment?

Stuart
