I've heard the song "JumpStart Me" before - it's sort of a prelude to "Jump
in the River". It's a b-side to, I think, Mandinka, but I've never seen it -
a friend of mine had it on a tape once. Has anyone heard this song? If so,
does anyone have a good idea of a place where I can get the single or b-side.
(Preferrably somewhere near the Twin Cities or Rochester in Minnesota, or
LaCrosse, Wisconsin..).

Hi!

I just wanted to share a source of Sinead lyrics with everybody. Maybe
you all know about it, but it's also a good resource for discographies
(hers included) and lyrics by many other groups.

Here's how to FTP
type at prompt	>ftp 131.210.1.1
for name, type	>anonymous
fpr pswd, type	>(your address)
		>cd pub/music/lyrics/oconnor.sinead
		>get all_sinead_oconner.Z (note misspelling)
		>quit

The file is compressed, so back at home, one way to make it legible is
to type >uncompress -f all_sinead_oconner.Z

The discography is the file oconnor in the directory /pub/music/discog.
You can type ls -a or dir to get a listing of any directory. Questions
regarding this archive can be referred to datta@vacs.uwp.edu (David Datta).

Just saw (and purchased) the *domestic* CD-single for "My Special Child." It
has the same tracks as the import. Same cover art as well. Now don't you
impatient import-buyers feel just a wee bit silly? I thought so... :-)

Proceeds go to the Int'l Red Cross. It's very good. Go get it.

People Weekly Extra selected Sinead as one of The 50 Most Beautiful People In
the World 1991. The photo spectacular summer issue is available at newsstands
for $2.95.
For those who prefer to browse through the magazine rather than
purchase it, Sinead is profiled on page 33. She is described as having "soft,
searching eyes, a buttermilk complexion and lips undulant as an archer's bow,
though she plays them down." The profile also quotes the 24 year-old on her
hairstyle and some of her views on men, in general.
In the photograph, along with a very pretty black lace top, Sinead
wears her serious look, again. Well, maybe serious isn't the right word, but
she isn't smiling. Rather, she looks somewhat shy and vulnerable. Her hair is
about 2 millimeters long. I wonder how recent this photo is because a photo of
her in US Magazine a few months back shows her with hair a bit longer.
Perhaps the best statement about Sinead wasn't even on the page she was
profiled on. There was a related article in the magazine called `Beauty. Who
needs it?' The final paragraph states "it's beauty that makes us want to claim
this sometimes sad and forbidding place as our own. And you thought Sinead
O'Connor was just a rock singer."

did anyone see "Liquid TV" on MTV last sunday? for those unaware, LTV
is a half-hour show of offbeat animation -- with 5 or 6 continuing
"series" plus a few one shots. one of the regular spots features
"Ms. Lydia", who uses a computer to demonstrate different hairsyles/
outfits, etc. for celebrities. you guessed it: this weeks star was
Sinead. To counter-act Sinead's serious look, Ms. Lydia suggested
hair styles based on Bozo the clown, Gumby, Ollie North (to show her
support for the US), Pres. Gorbachev, "Ms. Irish Potato Head", and
a soft serve ice cream cone...

it's actually pretty funny -- check it out!

Hi,

I walked into the local store 24 and there was Sinead at the cover of the
Boston Phoenix. 'Punk diva's new concert video' screamed the headlines.
So, I HAD to find out what they were talking about.

Turned to page Arts-16. Another picture. 'Bald Ambition-Sinead's My Special
Child isn't but _The Year of the Horse_ galops'.

_TYOTH_ was shot in Holland, and parts were shown on Lifetime the day
the 'War in the Gulf' started. The review for it is great, and it also
includes 'Irish Laws and Irish Ways'.

I quote for _MSC_:'This hymn to her infant son isn't out-and-out awful
so much as overblown, the sentiment closer to Amy Grant's "Baby Baby" than
to Chrissie Hynde's disabused maternal ode "Show Me".

I guess the reviewer didn't like _MSC_. Well, who cares?

Subject: Sun Ra information needed....
To: <jump-in-the-river>
Status: OR

Greetings,
I am gathering information for an undergraduate honors research
project concerning the free-form jazz musician, Sun Ra. I believe that
Sun Ra has been a significant figure in the jazz world and I hope to
develop a better understanding of both his music and philosophy. I plan
to write a biographical history with a list of known recordings
including a discussion of their merits and availability.
This project is in its preliminary research stages and I have only
been able to find a small handful of books with any significant
information about Sun Ra. I've also found references to a couple hundred
magazine articles. Unfortunately most are likely to be record reviews.
(I'll soon be trying to order them through the interlibrary loan system)
If you have *any* of the following kinds of information, please don't
hesitate to drop me a note, either by direct electronic mail or through
the postal system. If you could also pass this note on to anyone who
might be able to help me in my quest, I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is how you can help. I'm looking for....

1) Any recordings, especially those on Ra's own private record label,
Saturn Records. I am interested in either cassette tape duplicates of
Sun Ra recordings you might own, or purchasing any recordings you might
be willing to part with. I already own the following on CD or LP:

Blue Delight, 1989
Cosmic Equation
Dancing Shadows, 1966
Live At Montreux, 1976
Live At The Pit-Inn, Tokyo, 1988
Out There A Minute, late 1960's
Reflections In Blue, 1986
Purple Night, 1990
The Solar Myth Approach, 1971
Sun Song, 1957
Visions (Walt Dickerson with Sun Ra), 1978
We Are In The Future, 1961

I have cassette duplicates of the following LP's, but would like to
purchase original copies if possible. I also need information off album
jackets such as liner notes, song titles, recording dates, or musician
lineups, as well as record catalog numbers and the addresses of any
record companies for which Sun Ra has recorded.

Astro Black
God Is More Than Love
The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra, vol. 2
It's After The End Of The World
Lanquidity, 1978
The Magic City
Media Dreams
Omniverse
On Jupiter
Pictures Of Infinity
Sleeping Beauty
Solo Piano, vol. 1

2) Books or magazine articles about Sun Ra, any books with significant
information about him, or interviews with him.

3) Books or other sources containing *any* of Sun Ra's poetry.

4) Any other information I might find useful such as sources for first
person interviews, contacts that would have more information, or people
that would have more contacts. Anything that you think might lead to
something useful.

5) Any information about grants for this type of research. I hope to do
field research in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York--the three cities
in which Sun Ra has been based during his career.

6) Personal recollections of Sun Ra concerts. If you've seen him and his
Arkestra perform live, I want to hear from you!

Adva(thanx)nce. Happy Trails and Later Days....

I picked up the CD5 of "My Special Child" in Tower Hollywood on Friday. I
didn't see "Three Babies" though. I'll continue looking for it. I don't
really like MSC that much, but the live version of "NC2U" is killer.

About Joan of Arc. She says the movie will definitely happen. kathryn bigelow
[currently the director of "Point Break" and the current Mrs. James Cameron]
has cast her as the title character in the movie, without an audition. This
is hollywood, so we'll see if Sinead's optimism is founded on somethnig
concrete.

This could mean the end of SOC acting career. "Point Break" was really bad.
At the end of the movie people were shouting "this movies sucks"

I seem to remember hearing about this recently, but can't remember if I
read it from the mailing list. A thousand pardons if I did...

The July, 1991 issue of _Allure_ magazine has five "pictures" of
Sinead as Don King, Marilyn Quayle, Liza Minnelli, Vanilla Ice (!!),
and Whitney Houston. It's very interesting, to say the least.

Does anybody know whether there is

	(a) a Canadian version of the SOC's ``The Lion and the Cobra,''

and if so,

	(b) does it have a better job of mastering than the American version
and
	(c) is it visibly different than the American version.

Thanks.

The "canadian" version is the same as the european pressing (as far as I
know). It is different; both visibly and audibly.

The front cover has the Screaming Sinead picture (same style as the
docile american pressing) and the mastering is a lot better-- though not
perfect. It still has the same distortion in "Troy", though it isn't as
bad.

Track 14 on _The Lion in the Cage_ (live boot), is listed as

interesting.
