"Gasping for breath since Thanksgiving." Beating a dead fish

the BIG GILL NET, we all knew that Wired Digital's content couldn't stay very fresh. Nothing stinks like a bucket full of dead fish, except for maybe the crowd assembled around the big stinky bucket. Clams, by their nature, tend to be washed up to begin with and are comfy lounging on the beach. Fish, on the other hand, imagine themselves as free-swimming masters of their domain.
Slavishly schooling around the Miesian ideal of "less is more" Wired Digital, especially hOtWiReD (or is that HoTwIrEd?) has followed a strange reductive curve. As the web has gotten bigger and bigger, HOTWIRED (is that right?) has dumped content and gotten smaller and smaller with each new version.
For example, look what's happened to "Net Surf". Sure, I like the the movie star headshot of Joey as much as the next girl but, remember when there were like, seventeen people doing the surfing? Remember when "Net Surf" didn't read like "Suck for VH-1"?
You'd almost think that Apple was behind the fumbling management of WIRED digital. After all, they took a staggering technological and cultural lead and frittered it away.
