Last night I dreamed Patti was walking through Central Park, singing and
playing guitar, leading many people like the Pied Piper... someone was
trying, rather unsuccessfully, to tape her as everyone walked along... I
found the dream very amusing.

Well to be honest, I not a big fan of hairy arm pits or legs and patti's a
little to thin, wouldn't
hurt her to put on a few ponds. But this realy has nothing to do with her
talent, I wouldn't
give a shit what she looks like as long as she makes music that I can dig.

I used to have a thing for Mick Jagger, but that time has passed. He
remains *my* definition of "one of the sexiest human beings on the planet,
male AND/OR female."

As for Patti, it wasn't the pictures or the words or the music but the
delivery.

She has a voice that when she sings it is as if she is reaching down my
throat and squeezing my insides.

Makes my knees weak.

Patti is extremely sexy.
The ones who don't think so simply lack imagination.

I'm sure that a lot of you saw the article in Newsweek, and probably in some
papers a while back about beauty - research done on what is considered
"beautiful" found that by compositing photos on the computer, the more
samples used the more likely the person was to be considered beautiful.
So what most people in the study were ranking "beautiful" was really the most
average, the
assimilation of the most features. The individual face, the real, quirky,
original face was disregarded. Lack of imagination.

Recent psych tests revealed that most people find symmetrical features most
beautiful. Not necessarily "perfect" Anglo features but symmetry--ie.the more
closely matched both sides of the face are the more beautiful they appear in
the beholder's eyes. WHAT A BORE.

To those of you enjoying the parades tonight in NYC and Hollywood, SF and
Pleasantville ...have a spooky time and watch that witches brew! Cabs are
highly recommended!

Something a bit irritating for the unhappy lot. From the Dalai Lama and
'The Art of Happiness:'

If you maintain a feeling of compassion, loving kindness, then something
automatically opens your inner door. Through that, you can communticate
more easily with other people. And that feeling of warmth creates a kind
of openness. You'll find that all human beings are just like you, so
you'll be able to relate to them more easily. That gives you a spirit of
friendship. Then there's less need to hide things, and as a result,
feelings of fear, self-doubt, and insecurity are automatically dispelled.

She can look extreemly beautiful and feminine. Like a Modigliani painting.
Her hands and arms are amazing! There's also a gangly, orphan, waif-like
quality goin' on there. I've never had a sexual attraction to her beauty
but would have to say that she is very striking. She stands out in a crowd
and has an effect on people. Robert really didn't photograph uninteresting
people (for free).

P.S. Please see my first impressions as published in our little book to
Patti "Triggers." I remember seeing her on a flyer before "Horsies" and
thinking ...she's really tough! ...like us!! ...a gangster youth, with
style!  I love her visage.

I, too, think that she is an extremely sexy person...I esp like the
cover of "Dream of Life," she is radiant...
As far as symmetrical features, I being in posession of nearly
symmetrical features (yeah, it may sound bad, but I am pretty), doubt
that there's much intellect going on there...many times, people measure
other's attractiveness by something other than intellect (most people
keep their brains between their legs!)...I think that part of Patti's
beauty comes from that intellect...both hers and ours...what is it she
says? "I was bred for a higher system of vanity"...yeah, I know you guys
talked about this in Triggers, but it's entertaining, nonetheless...

Oh yeah, and I forgot something...part of my question is, would we feel
the same about Patti if she was a fresh-faced, virginal girl...I mean,
some of us may be beyond what the times consider beautiful, but if there
was a picture of, say, Natalie Imbruglia on the cover, (only maybe less
vacuous)would you've thought the same of her? I know, I know, it's the
music that really matters, but I'm curious about this...I'm not sure I
could take her as seriously if she didn't have the
goddess/mother/priestess look to her...

If one had Patti's music hooked up with Madonna's

Well...I might as well put my 2 cents worth in on this Patti looks
thingie. I have always thought her to be very attractive. I love skinny
gals and her tough I won't take any shit from anybody persona. And yes,
I like the "Dream Of Life" cover also. She's just a cool looking gal in
my book.
  But I have a theory. I feel to some degree the way people look on the
outside is a reflection of what they are like on the inside. I won't go
into a lot of examples here, but just give it some thought and see if
you agree.

Well, back in the Patti-less '80's (maybe THAT'S what sucked about them)
when I went to Fordham in the Bronx, they had a bunch of concerts on campus,
many of them with local heroes (David Johanssen, Kurtis Blow, the Shirts,
anyone remember Carolyn Mas?). Students got first shot at the tickets, of
course, but there were almost always enough left over for the general
public. They weren't usually highly advertised, but I'm sure that wouldn't
be a problem given our network. I have to assume that they haven't stopped
doing concerts.

For that matter, St. John's Univ. in Queens also did concerts.

Love all ways,
Tom

First impression? Her eyes, of course!

It's the intensity.
It's the insensity that makes sense to me.

I saw the Kinks there once. Great show, even though they pretty much ignored
their sixties material. The opening act was John Eddie. I thought it was
said that he'd had a fairly large hit two years earlier and was already an
oldies act. (Would have thought it was sadder if he'd done a better show,
but the hit single and the Foundations cover were nice)

For those in the NYC area who get NY1, they are supposed to have the parade
live--I am not sure if that means full coverage or what, but it starts at
7:30.
Did anyone help out on Patti's float? I couldn't make it. Hope you all
had a good time.

Subject: What Makes a Woman Sexy? Some Observations

"What Makes a Woman Sexy"
by
My Real Name
(c) 1998

What makes a woman sexy?

It is the burning question on every lip nowadays. These are the results of an
exhaustive survey. Serious students may wish to take notes.

What makes a woman sexy:

It is a matter of taste, spread out like a picnic;
it is all full moon and dazzle; it is a subtle implosion;
it unravels in stages like a blossoming open;
it is water soluble like you and me;
it is a sudden sound of throaty laughter;
it is requited self-love; it is the softest impeachment;
 it is inlaid and comely, abundant, botanical;
it is a slippery bridge over slippery ground;
it is all the suggestive drama of an unmade bed;
it is soft and it is swell; it rises and falls like a curtain;
it knits out from the center like an afghan rug;
it is butch and/or femme; it is persona most grata;
it is rhythmic sculpture; it is the best piece of the rock;
it is the fruit of the tree and the loin and the loom;
it is warm iron to the soul and back of the tongue;
it is give and it is also take; it is dynamic tension;
it breaks every rule and every exception;
it is sauce picante and it spreads like contagion;
it is energy and humor and a raging libida;
it is an estrogen high with a progesterone chaser;
it is free delivery from evil; it is femme fatale attraction;
it is a mistletoe belt and it's not even Christmas;
it is every major sign on each major highway,
Soft Shoulders, and Yield, and Slippery When Wet;
it is the grand prize behind the curtain; it is the daily double;
it is the secret woid; it is the $64,000 question;
it is the exact price of each item randomly selected;
it is sweet serendipity; it is the cast of the dye;
it is each delicate hue, alabaster to cocoa;
it shoots straight from the hip; it is the closest horizon;
it is under the covers;  it is holy of holies;
it is the birthplace of angels; it is kneeling devotion;
it is an attitude of prayer; it is an alternative bible;
it is a song of Sirens; it is a loud rumble of thunder;
it is a flourish of strumpets and a crashing of waves;
it is spontaneous combustion and a movement like dancing;
it is whatever makes you scream, always when you least expect it;
it is equal measures of surprise and surrender;
it is politically irreverent but anatomically correct;
it is all parts of the whole and vice versa, and so
it is an oxymoronic metonymy; it is every region of delights;
it is a scent like a bearing of fruit;
it is that deja-voodoo that you do
all over again.

Also this: it is personal power, which is remarkably sexy.
It takes years for women to learn about power.
Women with power are direct, never devious;
they are able directly to get
what they want.

To sum: what makes a woman sexy? It is in the eye of the beholder, as the
sages inform and the poets will agree, adding that it is "a snatch of grace
well beyond the reach of artifice," although that may just be poetic
licentiousness. What makes a woman sexy is what she knows and will tell you
but sometimes it is just a wild inarticulate longing. It is the look of her
face flushed with the wind and every phase of the moon in the slate of her
brow. It is the full gorgeous length of her down on her knees. It is the
deliberate quick bonny cut of her nails, the plenitude of fine flesh
bunching under your hands. It is the deep look of her eyes gently smiling,
those fine timeworn grooves at the edges where the lashes meet. It is a
mixture of slightly militant and slightly vulnerable charm. It is the way she
makes up her mind, the way she unravels and comes together again. It is what
she gives to herself because she knows she deserves it and it is what she is
willing to share without fear of depletion. It is the courage of her
conviction, because sexy is what sexy does.

What makes a woman sexy? It is not a simple question to answer. It is a
difficult thing to define. It is like trying to trace the shape of the wind
through the trees. Look down: the answer is stuck in the cracks of the
pavement. Look up: the answer is stuck in the velvet throat of the night. Aim
and shoot the question up to the sky like a quizzical arrow. It always drifts
down a different answer like disparate feathers, kind of like falling leaves,
kind of like snowflakes.

What makes a woman sexy? Here is my final conclusion: whatever it is, it is a
most excellent thing.

Happy Halloween, everybody! Be careful. Play safe and don't drive drunk. And
yes, Our Patti is indeed a sexy woman, in deed. In deed.

Love to you all, always waving,

walked down to 6th ave and spring street (after picking up a copies of
Gram Parsons' "GP" and "Grievous Angel" and the Replacements "When the
Shit Hits the Fans" at Subterranian Records)...around 4:00pm and all i
saw was 2 raggedy-ass floats and about 300 cops! i thought it would be
cool to see patti among all that blue...but not a trace of her. perhaps
i was too early, but the streets were filling up with tourists (no
offense) so i hightailed it home.

halloween in NYC is like st. patricks day...it's best enjoyed at home!

i didnt make it to the parade due to my arthritis..however ny1 culminated
its feature on the parade with patti smith...pretty kewl!!!
anyway i have been following patti's career since 1975 when i was living
around the corner from cbgbs at the yippie office (9 bleecker street)....
anyway, there was a sitiuation when wnew-fm cancelled a live broadcast of
patti which was happening on new years eve 1976-77 at the academy of
music(now the palladium). anyway, a flyer with some of her poetry was
distributed concerning it.
i took one back to the yipster times (later overthrow) office..it was
reprinted in our publication...
